How far away can you hear the 'Bramall Lane roar?'

Grew up in the high rise on Gleadless Valley and when a big match was on me and my mom used to open the windows and you could always hear the goals and big chants.

Living on Winn Gardens I can’t here a fucking thing.Having said that I can’t here a fucking thing from Swillsborough with the back door open.

The derby game in September 2009, 3-2 win - I could hear chants and celebrations from my mum and dads house just around the corner from the bagshawe arms, always stuck with me and amazed me the noise made it that far

Was answering a nature call in Crookes, when Gibbs-White scored Saturday...mixed emotions, ffs....get in!!😅

I heard the roar for the first goal yesterday from John Street as I tried to negotiate my way in.

When we lived on High Storrs Drive in the mid-to-late 1970s, you could hear the speedway in the evening.
Snap with the Speedway on still Thursday nights in the Carterknowle area. Basically a couple of minutes of a droning sound. Could also hear the drop hammers (remember them?).

Drop Hammers eh!!! I grew up in Hollinsend and they were like a lullaby to drift ye off to sleep, could it have been Ponds Forge? The other summer time sound was trains down Woodhouse area, either whistling or the chuff chuff as they started to hauled heavy loads. I hated going to bed before everyone else, your a 'night rake' my grandmother used to call me. I could hear the Speedway mainly because I was there early 50's, Len Williams, Guy Allott etc. till the government put entertainment tax on it so Sheffield folded. There was a resurgence were Bradford riders came to Sheffield Arthur Forrest being the ace in the pack. Some rider was he.

I could hear the roar when both goals went in on Saturday…….
…..Sky might have helped it a wee bit!

Obviously as you'll have gathered from my username I live in space.
I live in another solar system not yet discovered by astronomers on earth.
The only reason we knew your planet existed was because we heard the roar of the Bramall Lane crowd every time United score a goal. It's a bit like the radio signals you send to space but much louder.
Also the Sheffield Wednesday away following is visible by the naked eye up here and interestingly the word Wednesday is the colloquial term for pig up here.

Are you sure it’s not just the boy racers flying up and down Abbeydale Road? 😆

Yep I lived on Bannerdale ,you could hear the Flyer Wyer clearly but never the pigs ,even though they were next to each other.

As a child I lived at Archer Lane, Millhouses (off Carterknowle Road). We could regularly hear the roars from Bramall Lane. You could even tell the goals from the near-misses (a long roar was a goal, a shorter "oooh" was a near miss).
Ditto Heeley.

When I got home from the incredible Forest Playoff SF in 03 my parents told me they could hear Kabbas equaliser from where we live in Walkley.

My grandparents used to live near Wincobank Hill and they said they could hear Tom Hark when we scored, my Grandad said he was listening to it on Radio Sheffield then turned it all the way down and he could hear it live 😀

Dougie "Flyer" Wyer and Reg Wilson. Happy days. Sadly never got the better of Belle Vue, thanks in the main to a certain Ivan Mauger. A genius.

Was never into it really ,just remember the sounds ,another name I recall was Shawn Moran ? Bit later that I thiink. Do they not have speedway down there anymore ?

They do, Sitters. Not sure if Dougie and Reg are still at it though ;)

W*******y supporting mate who lives in Stannington (3.5 miles from ground) has told me a few times when he could hear Blades at Bramall Lane. Loudest was triple assault season against Liverpool I think.

I used to occasionally hear the reaction to United goals being scored from our back garden near Hallam school. Particularly remember the Man U cup game being one of them.
