How far away can you hear the 'Bramall Lane roar?'

Yesterday was a rare home match that I couldn't attend. I took myself to Bingham Park, Greystones, where I could clearly hear the cheers for both goals and also a chant of 'Sheffield United '. It must be about three miles away. How far away can people hear the Bramall Lane crowd (and no, before anyone says it, I don't include hearing the crowd from your TV screen!).

When I lived in Sheffield
I could hear the roar from BDTBL
While in Norfolk Park ( Guildford Drive )
Only a few miles away 2-3
It’s what got me hooked on Dem Blades
Then when we moved over to Skyedge could see BDTBL from my living room window,
Fantastic sight when lights were on for a reserve game at night all lit up

Wedne*day mates from school report they could hear goals in crosspool sometimes. Especially the bigger cup goals like Jags against Leeds.

I guess night matches sound will travel further than in day matches (I'm not sure if that is scientifically the case or it is just quieter). I can hear the Town Hall clock from Endcliffe Park at night.

Used to live in Broomhill and heard the crowd from there, once when I was too ill to attend. I’m guessing you can probably hear within a 2/3 miles radius anywhere west, south and east, if the conditions are right (and we sing!). Imagine north towards the city centre it gets dampened and won’t travel as far.

I’ve heard it through my kitchen window before, top of meersbrook park.

That side of my house looks down on the city and you can see for miles.

i could hear “The BOSS” concert from Conisbrough.
I used to live on Edmund Rd about 800 yards from the Shoreham Street.
I remember laying in the bath that evening and was surprised I could hardly hear a thing. I expect it was because we were slightly down hill from the ground and shielded by the cop.
So I suppose it depends where you live. I.e. above or below the ground.

As a kid, I grew up on Alderson Place and when the ground was 3-sided, the noise was really loud. Even when I was indoors, I could clearly hear the chants, ooohs and aaahs & of course when we'd scored.
When the South Stand was built and later the WH enclosure, it insulated the sound a lot.

Was a pupil at High Storrs School when we beat Spurs 6-0 at the lane. At school the next day a piggy mate told me he clearly heard the chants of "six-nil, six-nil, six-nil!" up at Bents Green.
