What's happened to him? His forms dropped off a cliff, admit he's not the only one but last night was his worst game this season! If it wasn't for the injuries we've incurred I would be suggesting dropping him. Maybe needs replacing for next season though.

Seems to totally lose confidence after giving a bad ball more than most.

Well, not as much as Norwood but you know what I mean

Who would you say played well last night out of interest?

I don't know, but mentally looked very, very tired last night. He went to pieces. I don't think I've ever seen someone give it away so much in the first half. Carlton Blade had it in double figures before half time.

You could see him remonstrating with himself over and over. But still giving it away under no pressure.

The weird thing about our passing last night wasn't just how many times we gave it away under no pressure but how far off target the passes were. Egan especially was missing people by 5+ yards

Playing out from the back is risky, and as a result you give the ball away more than most. I thought Egan had a shocker at Blackburn, wasn't as bad last night.

He's bound to be jaded. The wider point is that we are a team that needs to play through the thirds. Particularly when we play Sharp on his lonesome. It's very difficult to do when you change your defence every game and you have square pegs in round holes with the ball on their wrong foot. More emphasis was on Egan's distribution than usual due to our missing personnel. He was taking more risks.
Very harsh on Robbo but I'd like to see Davies in his correct position where he can get the ball into the midfield using his passing range with his left. Another option is a double pivot with Berge in the midfield taking the ball deeper off the defenders.

It's no surprise that the best we looked was when we had an out ball: Jebbo stretch and as a long option; Berge carrying the ball from defensive midfield. Basham is a huge loss.

He's started nervously taking the ball forward. Approaching a moving ball and taking a first touch to run on to. But he has little control over how had he hits it and is slow to react.

With bash missing a lot more responsibility for pressing forward out of defense goes to him, along with norwoods poor performance against forest and it looks really bad on him, but I can't think of anything defensively he got wrong. For one or 2 games I'll chalk it up to tiredness, calling for a replacement is very knee jerk after a couple sub par performances

Fucks sake. One of the best defenders that has played for the club in living memory has one bad game and people want him dropped. I give up

I don't think anyone has said he should be dropped have they? But he surely needs a rest..

Even on international break he's playing every minute for his country

First and foremost Egan is at his best when he’s defending. But he now seems to initiate most of our plays from the back, and with the ball at his feet, his laconic, plodding style makes him look vulnerable up against quick forwards who press him...I actually feel more assured with Jackie LT performances than Egan’s at the moment.

Totally agree Egan has given us fantastic service,he’s a Premiership defender all day long.
Definitely first name on the team sheet.
Think he’s captained ROI too.
Class Act for sure.

He’s just not as good as some on here think he is, simple as that. JOC made him look PL quality, that’s how good he was. God do we miss him…

Remember when every Brentford fan on their forum insisted that Egan and O'Connell were (at best) average Championship standard, so they wouldn't be missed.

I've had this theory from the beginning as all the evidence suggests it true,
Our central 3 of O'Connell, Egan and Basham were always top end league 1 to mid/ lower Championship standard.

However O'Connell is a more than decent left back with a great engine, with an excellent cross from the left hand side
so playing the overlapping left centre back role he's one of the best in the country. This role plays to his strength and covers up his weakneses.

Basham is Mr Versitile, half decent centre back, half decent right back and half decent midfielder with a great engine.
Again the overlapping centre back role was designed for him and he was one of the best in the country at it.
The role plays to Basham strengths and covers up his weaknesses.
No one would ever think a centre back would be making forward runs into attack, remember the Leeds away goal.

And regards Egan he's always been (at best) average Championship standard in a two but put him playing in the centre of a THREE and he's very good, the pressure is off and he's just there to sweep up/ cover any mistakes made by the other 2 centre backs.

The defensive 3 of O'Connell, Egan and Basham kept so many clean sheets, even at Premier League level.
It's amazing to imagine that 2 of Europes best teams Liverpool and Man City both failed to create many chances during our return season in the PL.
Playing under Wilder it's the best defence we've had in decades, so that something all 3 should be really proud about.

I think most people underestimate the system Wilder had. He got the best out of everyone in it. The players themselves weren't top Championship players.

This

Eagan is quality - everyone has a poor spell

Egan has been fairly consistent this season. Admittedly, he probably had his worst game this season against Forest, but needs cutting some slack.

I think he plays better when Bash is at the side of him as Bash gives him an easier outlet.

I wonder how many more weeks before we get Bash back?

You think Jack O'Connell was L1 / lower end Championship standard? Wow.
I've seen some bizarre opinions on here, but that...
