Inspired by Broomhill Blade's mention of his first game (1949 v New Brighton), lets have a thread about it.

When was yours and how old were you? Mine was 7th April 1973 a 2-0 win over Palace with Dearden and Bone scoring. I was six and I remember bugger all about it apart from the opponents (I was rather taken with the fact that we were playing a team from a palace).

Easter Monday 1966, under floodlights: Blades 0 Blackpool 1 in the old First Division. It was a few months before the World Cup and Alan Ball was playing for Blackpool. I was 12 and went with my cousin Patrick, who subsequently switched to Wednesday in protest when we sold Jones and Birchenall. Despite the disappointing result, I was hooked.

Leicester City at home 1974 i think and a 4-0 win, stood on the railings in the old pig pen on John Street.

26th April 75 - Bradford, Currie, Flynn and Eddy (pen) scored. The goals are on the YTV video.

Sat Aug 29, 1987.

Everton v Pigs at Goodison Park, 4-0 to Everton. My mum's boyfriend was trying to get me to be an everton fan.

The first league game I fully remember , was a 5-3 home win over west brom in the sixties 64 ,maybe a year either side , when we scored 2 late on to win a pulsating game
West Brom wore a revolutionary then all red kit , they looked really smart was one of the first more modern kits , we still had the functional v neck army and navy store look

Kieth Kettleborough scored a daisy cutter , he could really thump a ball
Id be around 10 at the time, Id been taken to other games such as the 61 FA semi v leicester but was too young to understand it,
and a derby at hillsboro where doc pace scored 2 as we won 2-1 , but was more interested in the cup of bovril to be honest , was over me head
This was probably when I got hooked

I think later that season we scored 2 in the last minute to beat newcastle 3-2 , was always always entertaining , or is it just selective memory

16th Nov 1985.

Blades 3 - 3 Blackburn

The day of the Wigley Wonder Goal.

My mum made me wear my Blue and Yellow Ecclesall Juniors scarf as she didn`t want me being attacked by all the hooligans.

Blackburn wore Blue and Yellow that day. Thanks mum...

Remember it well as it was my 8th Birthday party, my mother had kindly planned my birthday party for that afternoon, but it had to be postponed until later so i go to the match!

Friendly v Everton to celebrate the 4th Division title so probably May 1982.

Remember my dad buying me a Pepsi from a hut as you went into the Kop from the Cherry Street side of the ground.

Don't remember anything about the game itself other than missing our equalising goal because we left early. The day afterwards I was told that to make things worse, it was my hero Keith Edwards who I'd missed scoring. I've since read that it was actually Steve Neville who scored - is that right?

The 5-3 game was actually v West Ham on 4/9/65. Birchenall, Docherty. Kettleborough and Jones 2 scored. The 3-2 Newcastle game was on 27/11/65. Jones, T. Wagstaff and Woodward scored.

It was definitely Neville.

My first Blades game was Boxing day v Liverpool at home. I stood on the John St end and we lost 3-0.
My earliest other game was at Wendy watching Peter Swan make his return after the cheating episode. They lost 2-1 to Swindon.
I have no idea of the date for either game so not sure which was first, but I do remember telling my young pal in the car on the way to the sty that I supported United.

The Liverpool game was Boxing Day 1972.

April 1961 v Middlesboro, promotion to the first division already ensured, surely a celebration game? Alas only over 18,000 attended! We won 4-1 and my abiding memory is getting hit in the face with the match ball! Going to matches these days feels more like being kicked in the bollox !

1953 and I saw us score 5 and although I remember it, because it made me a Blade, I find no record of it anywhere. I believe it was against Barrow in the Cup, we won 5-0, I was 6 and my older brother aged 12 took me – no way could that happen these days! I remember we stood in front of the cricket pavilion before the kick off and then legged it around to the end United were attacking, and ran back around at half time. Hodgkinson was in goal, but of course I’d never recognise him close up because we were always running around to the attacking end. What great days – no segregation, no bother, no hassle, supporters mixing, big crowds standing up, and then of course came the 60’s. All before the demise of this beautiful game – Sky and the Premier League and FIFA and greedy bastards have a lot to answer for!!!

Having just listened to Alan Hodgkinson on Radio Sheffield it must have been Ted Burgin in goal that day. But what a great interview just now with Alan M.B.E. If only the modern professional player was like him.

My first memory of a game is walking out of millmoor just as someone scored an absolute beauty (so my dad says ) to win the game
I didn't see it I was too small

Steve Neville .. scored - is that right?
Yes and what a beautifully worked goal it was. Even some of the Everton players applauded as did Keith Hackett who was reffing. The ball was launched high down the right & little Colin Morris did a wonderful job of bringing the ball down with an outstretched leg and under control. Scampered down the wing & crossed a lovely ball for Neville to slot home.

My first game was the 5-0 home FA Cup defeat to Arsenal in January 1978.

At home to Birmingham September 97'. It ended 0-0 and was dull as far as I can remember - the pessimists might say it set me up well for much of what's happened since. One thing I do remember is being surprised by the singing and shouting at the match, I didn't expect it. My dad explained the reasoning behind it and I was soon on board.

My very first memory was a 2-1 win at Stoke - Colquhoun (sp?) scored in both ends, can't remember who got the winner for us. It was sometime around 1973-74 ??

Bob Atkins probably. Darren will provide further details.

Got to be 21/4/84 with Bob Atkins getting the winner in the last minute. The ball was passed to him with his back to goal 18 yards out. He turned on the proverbial sixpence and in one glorious movement lashed the ball into the top corner.

That was the only skilful thing he did in 3 years at the Lane.

Bloody hell - people whose first match was in 1997! - I am getting old.

It was 27/9/97 - Borbokis missed a pen with about 5 mins left.

We won 2-1 at Stoke on 13/10/73, but Woodward and Scullion got our goals.

New Years Day 1972 vs Leicester a 1-1 draw. It was a mates birthday party where we all hung onto the white railings on the John Street terrace to see the pitch.
I would have been 7 years old. Billy Dearden scored the equaliser (Peter Shilton in goal for Leicester) at the Bramall Lane end.
I thought it was the winner for many years until Silent Blade put me straight in June this year.

May 1989, we won 5-1 at home against Swansea to virtually guarantee promotion. I was 10 at the time and remember the ground being packed full and very noisy. I read somewhere years later that the attendance was only about 15,000 and it therefore obviously wasn't as packed as I recalled.

1971, v Chelsea ( was only 5 so not certain). Won 2-0

First game as a season ticket holder at 9 yrs old was v Derby in 75. We all know what happened that season.

I was almost 18 when I watched the Blades play Jostein Flo's former club Sogndal in 1994. My first match in England was at home vs Reading in 1997, Ebbrell's only game.

16th April 1974, against Leeds United, I was rather confused at that point and quite liked both teams (bloody hate Leeds now) We lost 2 nil. My mates dad took us, can still remember the awe of walking out of the gangway into the top tier of the bramall Lane stand and seeing the green of the pitch and floodlights, I was completely hooked for life.

1967 Blades 1 Man City 0 - Mick Jones scored , I must have been 8 y.o. my older brother took me and we stood on the kop. Apparently there was a lot of violence onthe kop that day and it was all over the Sunday papers. Hence, my mother would'nt let me go again and my next match was a Friday night 1-0 victory against Carlisle some years later.

The Carlisle game was in March 1970. Woody fired in the winner after Barlow tapped a free kick to him. It was played on a Friday because there was the Man U v L**ds FA Cup semi final at the sty in the next day (ended in a 0-0 draw). I missed the game because I had the flu. When my dad came home he was drawing a diagram on a piece of paper of how the goal was scored and Carlisle's keeper, Alan Ross stood no chance of stopping it

We beat Chelsea 1-0 in Sept 1971 with a Stewart Scullion piledriver from outside the box. Man U had drawn 2-2 at Liverpool so we were at the top of the 1st division leading by 3 points and looking forward to the next match at Old Trafford

My dad said my first ever match was against Blackpool and that we won 4-1 when I was 4 (I was born in March 1962). If he got the score wrong then it was likely my first match was the same as yours (my dad took me to watch the Spain v Switzerland world Cup game at the sty and insisted that it wasnt the first game I went to). if he got the opponents wrong, then I dont know who did we win 4-1 against around that time. I went to a handful of games at the Lane in the late 1960s and remember the Norwich and Cardiff games in Sept 1969. It was the 2-0 win against Preston in January 1970 that was my first game as a committed Blade (after watching YTV highlights of our 2-1 FA Cup win against Everton). Reece had scored a late goal and then my dad told me it was time to go home and we missed the 2nd goal scored by Addison. Alan Kelly snr was in goal for Preston that day

I remember reading the Green Un report of that match when i was doing a FB article of Woody's goals and assists. Yes we scored two late goals in that match. I think Jones equalised and it was definitely Tony Wagstaff that got the winner. The description of both goals was in the late stop press column on the right side of the Green Un front page

I think Hodgy's first game for us was in the 1954-55 season before he had to do National Service
