I didn’t like the way he left or his antics in the final season. He deserves our applause though for the fantastic 4 years he gave us. I’ll clap before the game but will then be supporting our manager and team. I certainly hope we don’t sing about him good or bad.

One or two need to give their heads a wobble IMO.
In my lifetime we've had three golden periods - Bassett (golden), Warnock (OK, soured by his next move(s)........and Wilder (the best ever)

Dunno bout anybody else but i think the football is better under Hecky and the boys..

Passing nice one touch stuff, no hitting it at the moon and hoping..

I don't miss him at all, but will clap him for the good times, then after that.. Its about us innit..
Yeah and not passing it around the 18 yard line for ever.

I hope you are well
I hope you are well
Oh chriseh wilder
I hope you are well.

I’d say Bassett was better, kept us in the top division longer and a better man manager. Warnock and Wilder fell out with players amongst other things.

He can have an extended round of applause for me.

The majority gave Nigel Clough a good round of applause when he came back first time, so WIlder should get a better one than that.

After that, it's finished - I just hope we dump on boro big time and show Wilder why he should have stayed and built another team just like his Mentor Sit Alex did at Man U a few times.

Don't remember this at all? Must have been once we got promoted to the Championship as he was managing Burton and they were already there weren't they?

Did Gary Sinclair even mention him at all? I liked Clough but much less so towards the end of his reign but he never really did anything as manager of us did he? Two decent cup runs but apart from that it was turgid with the way we attacked and too many draws against poor teams, ultimately failing to get us promoted from the third tier.

1st March 2016 - did us 1 nil - L1

Mark Duffy was playing for them that season.

First time I'd really seen him play was when we drew away 0-0 early on in the season and thought "he's a decent footballer"

Glad we signed him eventually !

Not trying to take anything away from Bassett (it was way before my time) but in terms of getting us there and then staying, would I be right in pointing out that it was probably easier back then because the huge gulf wasn't what it is today, you know especially with the finances involved in today's PL its ridiculous?

Yes I remember that match now, it was a Tuesday night. Still don't remember the applause for him but I could've turned up a few minutes late for all I know!

It was very generous for me and surprised me a little - more than you would have thought considering the vocal opposition on S24SU which was very mixed and probably more anti then pro.

Chrissy Wilder , he's one of our own ?
nah
CHRISSY WILDER - HE SPENT ALL OUR DOUGH !

6 years in division 1 , Chris Wilder came home (etc) ?
nah
2 YEARS IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE , WILDER DID HE ROAR ?
TOOK US DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT , AND SPENT ALL OUR DOUGH ... HE SPENT ALL OUR DOUGH

that should wind him up a bit

ooh , love a needle match !
Disrespectful childish nonsense.

I hope you are well
I hope you are well
Oh chriseh wilder
I hope you are well.
Of all our previous managers , he is the one who will have the greatest mental difficulty coming back and trying to beat us.
He undeniably loves the club.
He gave it a wonderful 4 years + 2 promotions.
But unfortunately he took us beyond his own level of competence to deal with difficult circumstances at PL level.
When bad luck struck with JoC , Covid , Lundstram and the players whose efforts & form fell away , he visibly unravelled.
A lot of what he did & said became quite odd + he stubbornly refused to try changes or even drop Lunny who was taking the piss .
Yet another in a lifetime of bizarre Blades episodes.
If you wrote a book about the ways we have found to fail , no one would believe it.
From methods of getting relegated to abject performances in all the significant POs , PO finals & Cup Semifinals.
Any Blade who loves this club can avoid mental illness only by never being its manager and having a philosophical sense of humour.

and all 3 thought they were bigger than our club

Exactly, he might have walked out on Boro (via the back door) by then.
I've heard this so many times, so what does leaving by the front door actually look like? If he was going to leave, how could he have done it differently without upsetting you so much?

Leaving by the front door would have meant admitting the job was beyond him and walking, instead he effectively left us without a manager whilst waiting for a pay off.

Bassett had his hand and legs tied up behind his back. For me, what he achieved was unbelievable and far outweighed what Warnock and BDW achieved

Feel a bit sorry for wilder, he's got to turn up at the best club in the world at the best oldest football stadium in the world with a shit non descript outfit, with shit non descript players, shit non descript fans and a complete wierdo for a chairman. It's like being invited to a wedding where your stunning ex with an amazing personality is going to be and you turn up with an absolute munter who's boring as hell and dances like a bell end. Poor guy will be gutted...and have to console himself with his bank balance once he gets out the ground with 0 points.

Polite round of applause pre kick off........

And if we're 4 nil up after 90 minutes, a rousing rendition of "he's one of our own";)

Some people have very short memories, and soon forget those dreadful seasons we spent trying to get out of that third Div.
Great seasons are few and far between and no matter how it ended he gave us four. I accept that it hurt when he left, but we are still in a better position than we were when he came, I'd put him up there with one of the best we've had in my time......
