At least we didn't concede 5 Seth.

dont care how many we conceeded or were we are in the league ,seasons over and wilson will be sacked before january

We were quite terrible, with the exception of the much crticised Simmo and Collins who were steady throughout. They looked quicker, stronger, and generally more hard-working than us. There were a couple of nice pieces of play that we served up, but they both ended in nothing and beyond that we were clueless. The Monty/Doyle combo, while it's been effective in the past, was woeful. Clarke & Phillips were not at their best, Cresswell huffed, puffed, fouled, while in defence both full backs were repeatedly out of position. I'm going to save my biggest criticism for someone I've praised much of the season - Quinny. At Orient when we have the game away he was screaming at his team-mates for letting everyone down. He let everyone down today, even before the brainless gift-away of possession leading directly to the penalty. He has the quality to scare teams - lately we haven't seen it. Today, we definitely didn't.

we are still better off than many expected. Got its only November. Sunderland were bottom of the championship at christmas and won the league

The biggest worry is that we are not making progress and cutting out the simple errors

Wilson - earn you money and stamp this shit out, its last season all over again

The standard of this league is shite. Even Charlton & Huddersfield look average.

While I can't comment on Charlton as I didn't see them, Huddersfield on the other hand while beating us 3-0 didn't look world beaters by any stretch(They drew 1-1 at home against Walsall today). IMHO if it had been one, or two at half time we could have gone on to at least draw and perhaps even beat them.

Sorry, for me it seems the slide from last season is just continuing. We started well and looked to be a class above our early season opponents. Now we seem to have adjusted to some sort of average league one level.

I'd have accepted a poor start if I felt we had a young, fresh squad that was learning, developing and progressing. Looking at today's line up, it's not horrible, but there are three loan players in there, all due to leave soon; there are some rather unexciting high earners like Simonsen, Collins, Monty, Doyle and Cresswell, none of whom are going to get any better; and then there are the likes of Maguire, Quinn and Lowton who looked brilliant at the start, but who are now struggling. I want progress, but I struggle to see it at the moment.

I mentioned it earlier but have we actually addressed any of last seasons problems?

Still persisting with a liability in goal? Check. (Granted he has the odd steady game like today)
Still conceding terrible goals due to an abysmal defence? Check.
Still thinking that Monty/Doyle combo is in any way effective? Check.
Still playing strikers that carry no goal threat? Check.
Still suffering from a complete lack of pace? Check.

We've done NOTHING to suggest we can even see the problems that took us down - only playing against poorer opposition that aren't finding us out as much.

The fact we haven't strengthened both the defence and the goalkeepers position is absolutely criminal IMO.

Take Charlton away and this league is utterly mediocre. As Bergen says, we seem to have 'adjusted down' to the lowest common denominator. Don't be fooled by our present position - it's as false as our 'unbeaten run of 5'.

Loughboro's description of Stevenage is truly chilling: 'They looked quicker, stronger, and generally more hard-working than us.'

All 3 areas are directly the manager & his staffs' responsibility.

Stick with Wilson and we'll be looking over our shoulder again.

It would be a good start if a few on the pitch found some of that.

Absolutely. Too many hiding away today - reminded me very much of last year.

We need to freshen things up in my opinion. We're back to the JPT next - I'd give Tonne, McAllister and Parrino games, and possibly Lecs a start in the middle of defence. Try Lowton somewhere in the midfield too, as I don't think we can persist with him in the defence in the long run. Any that do well, keep them there for the next league game.

We don't do strengthening very well.
What other club which lost its centerback and captain so early in a season would not immediately replace with a capable replacement.

bang on the button.

Thud. I realised today just how poor we are. Not a cat in hells chance of getting promotion. Totally wank today. I went expecting bombardment. Little did I realise it would be us serving up long, wayward, nothing balls. Stevenage moved ball quickly but were less direct than us. But at least they know what they're trying to do. I'm told were trying to be a passing side. Bollocks. Monty and Doyle in the middle, presumably altering our shape to counter the the footballing giants of Stevenage. Fuck me.

If Wilson hadn't been handed such a shit hand with vastly over paid low grade players, I'd really be questioning him. I haven't got clue what he's trying to do, but given the inability to shift our plodders on, I've got no better ideas.

:(

Hey, those fans that broke out fighting behind the net as stevenage got the winner know nowt. Hey, we're building for the future.
Hey, hey we're the monkey's.

It would be a good start if a few on the pitch found some of that.

Give over. The average player is a here-today-gone tomorrow mercenary thicko. (Think Clarke and Phillips will remember us by Christmas?)

The manager, by definiton, manages. Or should. The tripe we've had since Warnock have all been a disgrace. If we can't be fitter, stronger or faster than a pub outfit like Stevenage, well I'd like to know what the manager, 'coaches', 'fitness staff' etc. are doing for their money.

Hey, Judgey my old marra, if I posted stuff like this you'd be having one of your hissy fits.

SUFC is on life support, the last thing we need is people like you slating them from pillar to post.

.

I think the difference is that Judge, like the rest of us, are disappointed with events.

Raul son, leave it to me!!!

Hey Seth, there will be a chill wind coming over football and I will not allow SUFC to go the way of other clubs. And by the way Beattie has got flu Seth and I will not speculate on speculation.

Can't believe what i'm reading on here. We are a 3rd division club and teams at this level are average...just like us. Today we expected direct physical football from Stevenage and that is exactly what we got and I thought we handled it comfortably until whoever it was at the far post didn't clear the ball properly for their first goals.

In my opinionStevenage huffed and puffed until we deservidly equalised. We then had our normal mad 10 minutes until Quinny and LJF conspired to mess things up.

Simmo,Doyle,Cresswell(1st half),Evans(2nd half) did well today with Collins superb. For me Clark,Phillips,Monty,Quinn and Williams were awful and cost us the game.

Stevenage were excellant and getting the 2nd balls and we weren't which is how the 2nd goal came

Doom and gloom ? No. I didn't expect us to make the top 6 this season and many on here were saying the same in August. I'd be happy with top 10,end of season Evans,Simmo will be out of contract as will Williamson. Quinn and Monty will be moved on and Wilson will have a team of his own players.

We are playing better football than last season. We are desparate for a centre half to replace Maguire(Ertl ?),a left back(Taylor) and a right back so Lowton can be pushed forward. Wilson will know this but where is the money to get the right players in.

Transition will take time and we have no right to win games against 'pub teams'

Leave it out Alco. I'm as pissed off as the rest of em. Just back from Stevenage, painful to see the Blades in that state.

When we equalised I felt it came completely against the run of play. We'd barely looked like getting anywhere near their penalty area with decent possession, and luckily we grabbed a free kick. This came after Stevenage had hit the bar and after Simmo had to bail us out after more shocking defending.

You are right though re: transitions taking time. But that's presumably time to find the right set of players - because at the moment I'm not sure we have them at the club.

That's the long and short of it. I thought we'd be shite this year and though I think we're still shite, we're somehow miles above where I thought we'd be. Fact is, this set of players aren't good enough and cost a fortune. It's all about offloading for 2 years, and Wilson making the best of it.

My gripes are that it's not clear what Wilson's trying to do (too much Monty and Doyle for a footballing side), and that hpwever much I accept tht we are where we desreve, watching the likes of Stevenage over power us takes some accepting. Thanks McCabe.

Would agree with everything you have said, can't add anything to it , one thing I noticed is the real bitter ,nasty and down right negative atmosphere created by our fans. Bar the great tribute to Billy Sharp we were piss poor today. supporting a team means getting behind them when they need you , not ripping them to bits .

Agreed. Noticeable that certain fans in the absence of Simmo clangers were looking for other scapegoats. One guy in particular went through a rotation of Williams, followed by Evans (2 mins after he came on, after one of his first touches, yells of "gerrim off!"), followed by Monty, followed by lastly and most inexplicably Collins.

Didn't like the atmosphere at all 2nd half. I used to love going to away games on the basis you were guaranteed a decent atmosphere regardless of the garbage served up. We were ok at Wycombe, but the other two away games I've been to (today and Orient), we've not been good.

Difficult lough when there is nowt at all to get behind. Best 2 footballers (we own) on the bench, 2nd best to Stevenage on the pitch. There were some dreadful perfomances and most there have seen it all too often recently to be bothered to try and lift it - no point because they are pathetic excuses for footballers. Enjoy being with yer mates, enjoy the beer and laugh at the ineptitude is a pretty good recipe for a decent day out.
