Norwood after the final whistle

Norwood was ok when he came on - he simply has to accept that squad rotation will happen with so many games.

Berge was OK as the quarterback today.

I expect Norwood and Hourihane v Hull City on Tuesday and N'diaye back in.

We've not lost - we move on - plenty of games and 9 points in the next 3 home games will change the entire mood of our fans.

Hull, Swansea and Blackburn - one at a time.............plenty of time.

I like Berge and want him to come good, but there was no way that he was even OK as the quarterback, he just wasn't.

He didn't shield the back four, he didn't dictate play, he didn't track runners, and he didn't occupy the space and close down passing lanes. He was largely at his most comfortable when on the ball - all the tell tale signs of he's a complimentary player to a Norwood, not a replacement for.

I know tiredness and congestion of fixtures of the issue, but I think Norwood and Hourihane wins us the game yesterday, or at least Norwood +1. Then a 'lesser' midfield could do the job against Hull. Say Hourihane and Berge? Then we have 6 points.

I've noticed the same with Robinson at home , he doesn't go round the ground like the team, he claps but goes straight down the tunnel followed by Norwood. Wonder if it's because of the agro they have had from the fan's that they don't want to show any appreciation for support because they make think it's false

I don't think it's that deep tbh. Football fans being fickle surely isn't a shock to 2 footballers.

Probably not but both have suffered badly from our fans especially Norwood and perhaps he is not as forgiving

Norwood is always geeing the fans up at the end of games when we win.

An interesting take and I think I agree with that. I try and put myself in a players position when talking about them and if I read some of the stuff on socials about Norwood and Robinson over the last 12months then I don’t think I’d be too quick to clap the fans either.

After his very decent performance yesterday , and if I were Robinson, I’d have jumped backwards in front of the travelling blades and pointed to the name on my back 😂 ……then given them a wry smile and a wink

Not sure wot everyone else thinks of Heckys post match interview when he's said "There remains unspecified issues within the group". Maybe something to do with the Norwood/Sharp thingy 🤔

Might have been mentioned elsewhere but also Fleck rumours about been in a scuffle last night near Dempsey’s doing rounds on Twitter.

I'm not a massive Norwood fan, but given he tends to thrive against teams that sit back against us - then yesterday would have been a good day for him.
It's when he's pressed that he struggles.

That was a response to a question about potential injuries in the interview (Radio Sheffield) I heard and his response was along the lines of, "There are one or two issues I can't talk about and there are one or two issues we are managing"

The question was "has everyone come through this one Ok?"

Doesn't sound like he's talking about "issues within the group" to me, unless you've heard a different interview 🤔

Norwood is slow, easy to dispossess if caught on the ball and not great at tackling.

But he is the conductor of the orchestra, he dictates the pace and the direction of play and decides when we are going to play safe passes and when we are going to switch play or send an attacking ball.

This is so important to how we play that it more than makes up for the fact that he is pretty wank at the other aspects, although he needs a degree of protection from another strong midfielder. This is why it is working with him and Hourihane.

I reckon you could also do it with Norwood and Basham in midfield - Norwood to do the fancy stuff and Basham creating mayhem . Then you could play George at RCB

Yes Norwood was great when he came on because by that time Huddersfield were knackered and had stopped pressing. Norwood is great in that situation as he has the space to dictate play. Perfectly sensible to rest him yesterday and to be able to play the next three home games when he is more likely to have the space.

This is a good overview, I agree.

This is why our midfield has to be a sum of its parts. We're at our best when each can play to their strengths and compensate for one another's weaknesses:

A Norwood type to dictate the play, to recycle possession, to sit.

A prime Fleck type to drive forward, break the lines, add a bit of bite, to push forward and to track back in true box to box style.

A Duffy type, to sit in front of the two above, more attack focused, to be clever in possession, to show for the ball.

We don't have prime Norwood, Fleck, Duffy on offer but I'd say our best option is Norwood, Hourihane, then N'Diaye or MGW, and trying to get the latter two to recycle possession a bit.

Can't seem to find much on twitter just a photo

This is piss poor in my opinion.

We've got a heavily congested schedule, playing 7 games in 22 days and our players are out until the early hours on the lash?
We play again Tuesday ffs.

If you've got a week until the next game, by all means go out and have a FEW drinks. They look fucked.
They're paid an insane amount of money to be professional athletes. There's no way they can be in peak physical condition after a heavy session.
Idiots.

but for me he (Berge or Norwood) doesn't need to shield the back players.

A deep defending midfield player is fine when any team plays with a 4, but we play with a 3 and Egan is now back to his covering/sweeper type roll.

That for me is the defining factor been the two philosophies 2 x CH (like under Slav) AND a defensive midfield player or 3 x CH with the middle one being the free player, therefore relieving the midfield player in front (Norwood or Berge) to only be concerned about what is in front.

The main issue we didn't win yesterday was not the midfield, but primarily down to 2 players. One was MGW - he just wasn't match fit and up to speed that is needed in a game where that extra 5-10% really counts. The 2nd was McB - again not match fit and as is my usual rant - never will be. Both those players were responsible for the business end and we just didn't have enough effective play or quality in and around their box. The 2 efforts McB had - the header in the first half was poorly timed and the chance set up by Billy which was right in front of us needed a bit of dexterity which simply doesn't exist in McB's game.

Norwood has had a rest and hopefully will play all 3 up and coming home games barring injury. MGW will get better - he has the ability but if we start with McB in any of those games we'll be struggling up top. Hopefully we revert back to N'Diaye as starting.

As for Hourihane - you may have been correct, but he's a luxury footballer. Huddersfield kept the ball better than most we've played so we were out of possession more than normal and had to chase and cover more.

In the end we didn't lose and never really looked like losing to a well organised neat and tidy robotic Huddersfield trying to probe an opening in a similar way to what they did at Bramall Lane earlier on in the season.

Plenty of games, plenty of points and we move on to Hull where I expect 3 or 4 changes again but with a more attacking emphasis.

If I hadn't seen the other photo with Enda then I'd have had no idea from that footage but it's a similar hoodie and his stature.

Disappointing if it is him.

I'm not one of those who thinks players shouldn't drink during the season but I'd expect better from a highly paid experienced player than staying out that late getting bladdered and acting the twat with a game in less than 3 days.
