Cancel the Ben Davies loan and get a CB in who is available to play?

Joining the dots it seems like some serious off the field issue is keeping BD from playing.

No doubt we have paid Liverpool a very hefty loan fee for his services which are being denied us.

Whatever the issue is the player will still be paid by LFC.

Is it not possible to cancel this loan and get someone else in?

"Sorry Ben, were sending you back to Liverpool"

"Oh, right"

"Its nothing personal, its because you haven't played a few games."

"I'm sorry, I've been having problems at home."

"We know, but just because your wife is dieing of cancer, its causing us to play JLT."

Yeah, seems reasonable.........

Ok I know a fair bit on this topic, what I will say is he’s on very good wages here however and this bit is pure speculation but given the circumstances and the fact all 3 parties are of course aware of those circumstances and were so before any agreement it wouldn’t surprise me if any compassionate leave is covered by Liverpool and not us. I don’t know this but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t the case.

Other than that it’s a sensitive topic so not sure “thanks but bye” is suitable

He’s been injured and had Covid too!

Who knows what his current situation is?

I’d give him the benefit of the doubt!!

If the rumours are true that his wife has cancer, then what the club should be doing is telling him to take as much time off as he needs, and they will support him in any way possible. The same goes for us fans. Some people don't seem to understand that there are bigger things in life than football. I will just end with saying i hope she makes a full and speedy recovery, and look forward to Ben playing for us again when he's ready.

Very well put. The money, loan fee, wages are not important at all if the rumour regarding his wife is true. He needs to take all the time in the world to be with her and his family. If we are talking about cancelling contracts then there are few more high profile ones that need tearing up before you get anywhere near a guy who is off on compassionate leave.

Even ignoring the morality of it, that wouldn’t make sense even from a football perspective.

He’s a very good player that is out of contract in the summer and available for free. Standing by him puts us in pole position to pick up a bargain, especially if we look after him personally.

Ben Davies has over 5 years left on his Liverpool contract. Don't believe the transfermarkt info.

I'd have thought/hoped the original poster didn't know of the rumours and circumstances.
Definitely some perspective is needed and this is far bigger than football if the rumours are true.

Not to trivialise anything though- maybe the rumours around one of the other Liverpool centre halves coming on loan is the 2 clubs reaching some sort of agreement and compromise to give the feller some support and a break. I hope so.

Maybe he didn’t know his true circumstances.
How do you post a animated bandwagon pic?

Well I like to think I follow all things United closely and it’s the first I’ve heard of it so maybe the OP didn’t know either.
Same here. It’s rubbish news though. Bloody f in cancer can do one. The great Blades family will no doubt come together and help the Davies family.

It's been mentioned on here several times on different threads and has also been widely reported on radio, but I take your point.

Why the hell would we cancel his loan. We’d then need to sign two centre halves in 6 days. Are you not aware of how slowly we negotiate

Not sure why this is getting the hate it is. To me it seems like
Look Ben we know you have some personal issues and we don't wish to put any pressure on you
Go back to your parent club who may have a much better understanding of your situation
We'd love you to stay here but you're contract is to another club and really they need to support you through a long term package

I really don't understand what is wrong with that. If someone carrying out work on your premises had an accident would you wish to support them wages wise all the way through their recuperation (probably not the best comparison but he-ho}

That's not how it reads though is it?

Tend to agree mate

We will be contributing a sizeable chunk to his wages, if not all - what’s that, 20,30,40 grand a week?

If he doesn’t play another game for us that could be Up to half a million till end of the season

We need cover, he’ll get paid by his parent club

We get another CB on loan with the money

Unfortunately it is a business

Should we get in another CB on loan who helps us get to prem via play offs it could be a £100m decision

Hopefully it all ends well for the lad and his Mrs, but there’s no room for sentiment, CW showed us that, as did he to Duffy, both who had given a lot more to the SUFC cause.

Speedy recovery Mrs D.🙏
