It hasn't really been a problem over the last few years as things have been going well, but the lack of crowds have highlighted that we're a very quiet team. We don't have a captain in the sense of someone who will galvanise a team on the pitch and drive us forward. We have a captain who might lead in the dressing room but is rarely on the pitch and doesn't fulfil that function when he is. Egan marshals the defence, or did, but nothing outside of that. In the situation we're in, we really miss that player on the pitch to grasp the nettle and to drive us forward. I think we really need to address that next summer.

Agree. We are missing a team leader this season especially with the numerous changes

We've not had a real leader for a long time. Although, they don't really seem to exist anymore in the same way they used to.

Flagging again because there was no leadership whatsoever on that pitch last night

We didn't need a captain when it was going well because the entire squad were playing for each other. We were a unit. Much better than the sum of their parts and if one player had an off day, the others covered for them.

Doesn't work when you're no longer a unit. We desperately need an experienced voice in the team to help us in games.

Which I suspect is why Billy and Jags have featured in recent line-ups despite their obvious slowing down with age.

We desperately need a leader or leaders on the pitch.

We are way too quiet as a team. We should have a player or two on the park, banging a few heads together and nipping at our other players if they aren't doing it. Someone who csn snarl a bit at others if needed. Instead we have no one.

Even our keeper is as quiet as a mouse. Compare Ramsdale to Hendo last season who was constantly in the ears if the defenders and barking out orders to his defence.

Instead of starting a new thread, kicking this forward again.

This lack was very noticeable today. You're always going to have tough games like today in this league and it's having that bit extra to get through is really important. We had a bad day and there was no one there to gee them up or push them forward.

We have no leaders on the pitch. Not one. You can see how we fall apart when we're not following a precise system. When Wilder was here it wasn't necessary as he had plenty of words for everyone. Players were told exactly what they should be doing at all times.

Today we desperately needed some passion and fight and there was nothing. Billy does what Billy does but he's so far from being a captain on the pitch. He should be club captain but not on the park.

We need someone to come in and pull us up.

We miss a spine. A solid settled base of shitbags who are in the starting 11 each week. Whos jobs are to stop the oppo scoring, smash and create and put the ball in the net. Of any fail at what they are supposed to do then some fuckers getting told about it. You can then pick one captain from 6-8 players. We are weak as a team and this shows with a lack of leadership

We could use a probably monster at the back who can clear everyone out but I think we're desperate for some bit in midfield. That is a major problem area for us. We have Norwood, Berge and Hourihane who are essentially the same player. Fleck has seen better days and Osborn is a useful squad player but not a regular starter. We need a touch tackling DM. One who frees up the other ones to play on the ball.

Nobody in that squad would’ve made a difference with the arm band today.

We’ve had Egan, Norwood, Bash and I think Didsy all given the armband when Billy hadn’t played. All were on the pitch today.

Problem today was yet again, when the opposition kicked things up in midfield, we couldn’t cope.

Berge was knackered when he went off, he’s hardly played but Hourihane coming on didn’t help as we were unsettled with two changes.

We never came out at half time and we got punished for being very very lethargic

I don't think there's a vice captain in the squad, never mind a captain.

Billy’s been a much better captain than I’d expected him to be when he got the armband. No reason to change that for me.

We didn’t lose today because of the captain, we lost because we were poor and didn’t have the desire to go and win the ball that derby did

Agreed although don't want the dark ages of Colin-Ball when you had to go through Monty, Morgan and Kenny plus one of our large strikers before you had the passion of Jags, Tonge and Brown etc it made it hard industrial work to break us down with real grit, it wasn't pretty but worked well
