Up in the hills!
We're a quarter of the way in, and I'm quite happy with 6th place. After last seasons offerings I thought we might even struggle in this division!
3 or 4 victories in this tough month and we're right back in it.
I do, however, feel that we need a more confident keeper and the same in a striker. Maybe the confidence will come for Chedwyn if he starts finding the back of the onion bag, but as for Simmo, I think he's going to struggle.
We've been playing some nice football, but sometimes, especially in the lower leagues, that needs to be replaced by a more gritty and tough approach to make us hard to play against and hard to beat.
Let's not panic yet and see how we stand at the end of October. If it's all turned to shit, then we can panic. Untill then, keep the faith!

Teams like Charlton and Southampton before them woke up to the realisation that you need to toughen up in this league. As it stands I like the entertaing passes but would much prefer to see us winning ugly if the passing game isnt working. I would go 4 5 1 on tuesday and play the following
Simmo
Lowton Parino LJF Williams (if fit)
NML Monty Mcdonald Tonne Quinn
Cressy or Ched

Play Tonne just behind the centre forward

Pinch is yer man here but why oh why this suggestion that you can either pass and lose or hoof and win? Blackwell and Adams have led us into the 3rd tier with a style of play so mind-numbingly bad that thousands of Blades have packed in and thousands who do go could not give a toss anymore. Fortunately Danny is trying his best to entertain us and for me that is the main point in going now, although his signings have been a total outrage.

I'm not saying that we should resort to "HOOF", I for one am pleased to see us trying to play proper football. Sometimes though a tougher, more agricultural approach is needed, especially at this level. 3rd and 4th division football is a tough arena, in which we should shine, but we need to be more physical, and if the moment calls for a big booted clearence rather than passing our way out of trouble, so be it. As my old P.E. teacher use to say, "If in doubt, put it out"

The midfield and strikers are too far apart, but none of them are fast enough, we need some pace in the side and I still think Lowton would be better in midfield.
But to early to complain in Danny we must trust.

We need width to break teams down.
Willo and Quinn are not natural wide players. If we are not going to play two natural wingers then don't play two naturally narrow midfielders either.
Use one of each FFS

All this bollocks about passing or hoof. It's a complete red herring.
The trick is to mix it when it matters - use a combination of both.

Goal mouth action is what you need to make it exciting and entertaining. To do that you have to break with pace or get around the back of em and cross some balls in.
Keep the ball and switch play using a good passing rythym.
Use the longer pass to stretch the play wide where and when appropriate.
Get some decent early crosses into the box for the strikers to attack.
Goals will ensue.

It's not combustable projectile science.
This game is fucking simple.

Otherwise they would all be nobel prize winners or feckin poet luareates or summat.
Feck me!
