Somewhere in a Parallel Universe, Sheffield United are enjoying their 3rd season in the Premier League after a noble last 16 appearance in the Europa League the season before. They ended up finishing 11th in the league after the extra European fixtures slightly impacted league form. As the team enter the January transfer window in 2022 after a great 3-0 Home win against Leeds United put them on the edges of another Europa League assault, with the Prince offering up £100m of investment on transfers to continue the push and with £80m offers coming in for Norwegian sensation Sander Berge from Real Madrid.

Can I get to this place through the back of my wardrobe?

I forgot to add in this universe Wednesday got docked points in the season they actually broke the rules, and then docked 12 points during league 1 last year for not paying wages, employing Barry Bannan as player Manager who got them relegated because he couldn't reach up to the tactics board.

They are currently 9th in league 2 and every teams Cup Final despite 2 stands being demolished on health and safety legislation.

This genuinely upsets me.

Probably the only chance I'll ever get of following the Blades in Europe. Not only that but we were in the quarter final of the FA cup with a very real chance of at least getting to a final for the first time in living memory. All while actually seeming to have a long term plan, built around a proper identity and brilliant manager, which could well have seen us establishing ourselves as a top flight club.

All scuppered by an absolute freak event.

How very Sheffield United.

The Premier League table 2 years to the day, what could possibly go wrong?

Meanwhile in Wuhan...

It does wrankle but had we carried on at that rate we would have finished on 55 points. We actually finished on 54, so hardly the huge drop off it feels like.

It was also a bit of a bizarre season with such an evenly matched mid-table. It's very rare 32 pts from 22 games will be good enough for 5th. This season it will be worthy of 9th or 10th.

Seems like a lifetime ago.

I'll never forget I met a friend of mine and his lad who was about 11 at the time at the pub before the Norwich game just before the lockdown started. I said to my friends lad to enjoy this time as you never know when it might happen again being a Blades fan. Sure enough....

It genuinely felt like we were about to achieve some success, or even just see us have a sustained spell in the PL.
The club was moving in one direction, fans, players, manager and board or so it seemed.

If we were actually able to gain promotion in the next season or two it will be a fresh hit at it again and who knows how capable we will be of staying up.
