...that Japanese one's got the 'seal of approval'...

Seriously though...if you feel that a family member or loved one has lost their connection with reality, then this could help you to cope...

So that's what you were doing was it? After months of arguing that McCabe and Birch were magnificent custodians of the club and that Blackie was a good manager, your family took the decision to help you. Take it from me, it hasn't worked.

I wish I had gone to that conference then I could have had my tap water tested by this chap:

Lawrence Wright (UK)
The Official Government Poisoners

Lawrence Wright will be testing your tap water so bring your samples in a bottle to the conference. He will also be demonstrating a portable reverse osmosis machine and covering some of the other hazards lurking in your tap water. Lawrence will also be bringing an expert on water filtration systems with him to help with the demonstrations and give expert advice.

Reckons you can get yourself off any criminal charge by arguing that the Queen is not the genuine Queen because she wasn't crowned on the correct coronation stone!

arguing that McCabe and Birch were magnificent custodians of the club.

No I didn't. I think you might be misunderstanding the concept of someone 'not agreeing' with your opinion and someone being the 'polar opposite' of your opinion. The two are not the same...

and that Blackie was a good manager,

Questions of style apart, he was. I think this was discussed a couple of weeks ago and this was pretty much the inescapable conclusion despite everything to the contrary. Anyway I've said all I'm going to about Blackwell. Its a long time ago now and pretty irrelevant to what the club is doing today.

Take it from me, it hasn't worked

Sweet of you really, but it wasn't for me. Good luck with the 'Hoof' thing...

Don't you DARE take this thread off topic!

You think Blackwell is irrelevant to what SUFC are doing at this moment - I think he is massively responsible for where we are now.

Was it not for you? Never mind old boy, I really was trying to help your hilarious delusions re all things SUFC.

Hoof is catching. Just been on the Hibs 12th man facebook profile and saw this..........

We now have a new open forum on Hibs.Net. We are looking for activists to help us be the voice of the support and talk directly to the owner and the board. It's time for the talking to stop and supporters to stand up and be heard. Say no to hoofball at Hibs!! We demand the Hibs Brand of Football !!

Its catching lads.

Ah Dunc, there you go again, defending the indefensible. Did you not learn anything from your sabbatical or your red and white spec wearing friends on BladesReunited?! I think most would say that the ex semi pro goalkeeper that managed us was pretty dismal. Shocking football, underachievement, the systemic removal of high quality players to be replaced with extremely average players and a major factor in our downfall are just a few. Of course you will not come back with any points and probably hide behind your (pathetic) slogan/signature and maybe even take another sabbatical, rather than carrying on losing arguments to some of the forums finest.

Ey up judge mi owd scouse mucker. (As Mic states) tis a belter. When we meeting up for a lager?

Shocking football,

Towards the end yes, but when he came in we were playing some good stuff.

There were some situation, like with Cotterill, where Id agree, but how much of this was down to Blackwell and how much was cost cutting forced upon him from above?

---------- Post added at 09:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 AM ----------

underachievement,

Where does he stand in terms of wins to games played compared to other managers? Didnt he take us from relegation to flirting with play offs one half season and actually to the play off final the next?

Yep, his first few months we did play some decent stuff. Out of his 2 and a half seasons in charge his first half season he did pretty well. After that it was negative, trugid hoofball.

The balme does not lie soley at Blackwell's door. Not by a long shot. He cannt be blamed for the sales of Kilgallon, Naugthton, Walker, Naysmith, Beattie, Tongue and . Though he can be blamed for selling Hulse, Hendrie and Cotterill and brining in worse (Henderson, Howard and Yeates). Look at some of his other signings (Taylor, Kozluk, Davies - on loan from Stoke, Craig Beattie, James Harper, Jordan Stewart etc) and you can see where I am coming from. There is also a case for him not getting the best out of players. Quinn and Evans are examples of players that performed better under managers since and Howard and Harper came in with good track records and did not play well.

His win ratio is pretty high and puts him right up there (http://www.s24su.com/forum/showthread.php?22202-Worst-manager-in-the-history-of-SUFC/page7). However you have to take into account that he had one of the best teams we've seen at the Lane for quite some time. He also (very importantly) had the best United defence we have seen fro more than 20 years.

Indeed. In every area its an altogether more nuanced picture than some make out.

Why then are you so quick to bring up his stats in other debates, without mention of these nuances. Why do you need the prompt? You could have got results with the wedge and players that the obnoxious cretin had at his disposal.

Because the two arent mutually exclusive obviously.

Did Bryan Robson?

Are you genuinly trying to say that Blackwell was a good manager for us? Or are you just (being pedantic) and trying to prove a point, because you think you can?? My bet is on the latter.

Mic pointed out that anybody could achieve success with the players and money he had at his disposal. As already stated, Robson totally failed with the same, therefore Blackwell was far more successful than the previous manager. Had Robson stayed I have no doubt we would have been relegated, Blackwell turned that round and then the next season got us to the play-off final.

Blackwell was a reasonable manager for us. His record shows that. Since we were relegated from the PL in 1994, his record is better than that of Bassett, Thompson, Bruce, Heath, Robson, Speed and Adams and similar to that of Kendall and Spackman. Only Warnock did better in the sense that he got us promoted (though it took him over 6 years to do that, whilst Blackwell only had 2 years).

I find it hard to fathom the animus some people have against him.

What Darren says. The bile and vitriol that people like you throw at the guy is to a large extent undeserved. Ive seen better managers at the Lane than Blackwell, but Ive also seen worse.

Then youve lost that bet.
