I've never understood how he got a payout either but I can only guess that it wasn't a walkout but a mutual thing and perhaps the payout was only due till another club came in and they had to pay part or all of it for his release. Only guessing.
It was because in the end he was spreading so much rubbish in the media and causing problems throughout the club that it was worth paying him something just to get rid of him.

Evidently Boro had one player Covid positive before their Blackpool game but put out a strong team and won. Surely several of those who played must have had contact with the Covid player and should have been isolating ?

Everyone gets a payout. Would you have turned it down? I doubt it
Well I’ve walked out on a couple of companies and I’m pretty sure what they would have told me to do if I’d demanded a payout for leaving them in the lurch with such a poor record of acquisitions.

But if we’re stupid enough to give in to his demand of £4m to sneak out the back door with his hood up, then you can’t blame him. Just as long as I don’t have to listen any more of his claims of what a big blade he is and where he goes for his haircut.

Yes. And the hull and Preston games on sky red button on top of that too ...
Thanks BB, whilst you’re right the main point stands that it has more chance of being on if the game is live on Sky. The cynical side of me always comes out in these circumstances. 😁

If worldwide billions of pounds deal premier league games are getting called off championship chump change isn't going to factor into it whatsoever

Why are they waiting?

Either they have enough or they don't? Surely testing more will just see Boro saying they have more positives. Clear they played the other night with a number positive but just had tested previous day/earlier that day. It just depends when you test of course.

The whole system is deeply flawed. They said they wanted to remove uncertainty but testing more on the evening before a lunchtime kick off is absurd and not much better than it was before with the Blackburn situation at Hull. Either way, say its on now or it's not. The messing about every week is not fair on fans/people who travel/work for the club and why they'll change it in a few weeks and make teams play no matter what and we will suffer.

Like lockdown football I'm rapidly losing interest in this current shambles. You can't plan anything as a fan.

There is an argument now maybe that they should have just shut all games down for 2 weeks and then just say from January everyone plays no matter what. Not sure that would have worked but current system is unsustainable but if EFL change it and make teams play then they will face legal challenges all over.

Teams know now they can postpone ganes with little scrutiny seemingly and as the season goes on the manipulation as promotion/relegation threatened sides will make this seem trivial. The notion that it will all be gone by April or lessened May hold true but unlikely and even if it does there is nothing to stop teams still asking for postponements to suit situations (injuries before a big promotion game). The EFL cannot say you must play as clubs will point to what is happening currently.

I'm getting the exact same feeling I had when games were behind doors, I simply can't be arsed with it.

Football hasn't been the same for me since Covid arrived anyway, I think I've maybe watched two games as a neutral in almost two years (I'd normally watch every week). This time we're actually on form as well so I can't even blame United being bobbar.

This fiasco needs to stop now as it will be months before cases drop back to normal levels. It's not just going to stop happening under the current rules.

Lateral flow tests are called daily LFT's for a reason. You take one every 24 hours. If Boro had enough players to play the game this morning after testing including PCR results then the recent EFL directive that testing should not be done on the day of a game applies and the game goes ahead.

Once again a game involving SUFC occurs where the rules are allowed to be bent and now we have testing going ahead tonight for the benefit of Boro and clearly not SUFC and the existing directives. The tweet gives the impression Boro are desperate to call the game off and are looking to up the number of covid cases this evening. Its a shambles with no clear enforcement being applied.

Presumably the EFL won't accept the LFT results as they're not really proof, so have asked for PCR tests to be done tonight to avoid the fans having to travel tomorrow. It makes sense to me.

If that was the case then you would have assumed it would have said waiting for results rather than more tests. Unfortunately we are dealing with journalists who do have the ability to mis interpret facts. Wilders press conference at 2.30 should shed some more light on the matter.

Is that live anywhere? Should be an interesting watch!

It also should be pointed out that match day testing is only not required for players not showing any potential symptoms.

Who decides whether a player looks like they may or may not be displaying symptoms? Oh that's right the clubs.

So sorry to say match day testing and games getting called off at the last moment will still very much continue

There should be a clear cut off where the game goes ahead or does not. Tests have surely been done this morning and results will be known. So its on or off.

If the EFL ARE allowing more tests then they have created another loophole after saying they would not postpone on the day of a game...however it will be less than 24 hours and the night before is not much better really for an early kick off.

Total farce.

We all know the game is going to be off (whatever people think of rights and wrongs) so just postpone it now, why delay things?

Not seen one game where a reporter with credence has said it might be off and then it has been made to go ahead. If Boro or another side just said we're not playing, not even sure the EFL would bother putting up a fight. They'd just fold and say OK. They've set a precedent and now can't go back. It should never have been about squad sizes or injuries on top of covid.

I’m assuming that the testing is independent and verified?

Or does a club just say yeah we’ve got x amount of covid cases and the EFL takes their word for it?

Do I leave a on a 4 hour journey and in the hope that the match may be on have booked to stay in Sheffield do I cancel stay at home decisions decisions
No thought for the fans at all
The final tests are tonight (guessing 5pm ish) according to Alan nixon, so possibly 6pm you might hear something.

Why are they waiting then? Its off. Just tell us.
Presumably because the Forest game was 5 days ago and they are waiting to see if any test negative in line with current protocols at day 6. If they do they can play. So it seems the delay is more about looking for new negatives rather than positives if the tweet is to be believed. All in all its looking nailed on a postponement and EFL just wanting to look like they have done all they can despite the flakey rules they have put in place.
