Get him fit through playing

You must be a recent addition to the backroom staff, what with your inside knowledge of performances in training?
You’d guarantee someone a starting place based on their form in training? You’re clearly not a member of any backroom staff! 😂

Let’s be clear about what’s being proposed here - drop players from a winning team to get an unfit and previously under performing player into the team with a guaranteed start, on the basis of things we’ve never yet witnessed. Who’s being outlandish here?

We have witnessed him striding through a defence like it wasn't there and the only way they could stop him was by almost rugby tackling him

We have witnessed him having the ability to control , assess and open up defences with a pass few in this team or division can make - at pace and being under attack

We have witness him scoring against Prem and Champ teams

We have witnessed him being injured and struggling to come to terms with a new club in a new league in a new country in a new pandemic

We have witnessed him struggling for confidence and clarity in exactly what his role is in this team from 3 different managers in 1.5 years

We have witnessed him playing in the Champ League and attracting compliments from those who know

All we are asking for is for this undoubted talent to be unleashed and coached to the benefit of the club and himself .

Drop who the fk you want - we need to get him in the team and functioning

Sorry fella, but once again it’s Berge bingo ;

Struggling team
Out of position

He’s been played in numerous positions, by numerous managers, and failed. The team was astounding when we wedged him into it. Our form and quality dipped immediately, because of him.

How he now gets the free pass, that escaped those who actually earned us that lofty position, has always been beyond me.

I’m happy to give him his “fifth” chance, but the call for a guaranteed spot, seemingly supported by a few here, is totally baffling.
Don't think anyone suggests he's been a roaring success. He's shown glimpses of his ability, which IF he applied consistently would make him comfortably one of the best players in the division.

To say our form dropped 'because' of him is just nonsense. Correlation does not equal causality. Our problems ran much much deeper than one signing, who didn't hit the ground running.

Since he joined he's been no worse than any other midfielder, and on occasion been head and shoulders our best player.

Certainly not advocating guaranteed starting places, but you play your best players. Personally i'd love to see Berge playing in a united team full of confidence.

I think the whole being brought back slowly is more of a case of keeping him from harm for a January sale sadly.. I don’t think we will ever see him be his best for us and will forever be one of those “what ifs” and “remember when we had Sander Berge”

And despite all the wondrous things you claim we’ve witnessed, we’ve (factually) barely won an argument when he’s in the team.

And you’d guarantee him a starting place, no matter what. That’s really bizarre.

Our form dropped when he was wedged into the team. I can’t guarantee that was because of him - but it very clearly did, and he very clearly didn’t perform so cause and effect look very correlated to me - hence him being dropped soon after.

I’m happy to see him as part of the squad. I’m happy to see him getting game time. I’ll be really happy when he proves that the odd glimpse of class can be turned into constant performance and results on the pitch.

My position is perfectly reasonable. Guaranteeing him a start to gain fitness, dropping players from a winning team as some are arguing, is really schoolyard nonsense.

No one should ever be guaranteed a start… ever… that’s where the problems start.

Sander will be sold in January, top draw player wasted in the Championship.

Might have been injured but the big boys know how good he is.

I would like to see him starting as much as anyone. But most importantly I would like to seem him starting regularly. So I hope we resist any short term temptation and bring him back cautiously in line with his fitness and stamina. We can particularly afford to do this, when others are in form. I don't care if we have a bad result or are struggling in a game. Lets not disrupt a a side playing well, until we are confident he can put a run of games together (which is smg none of can judge from the stands). He will get plenty of game time over the winters fixtures.

Because they will get him cheaper in January.
Ah yes, very convenient. Absolute class, wasted on the championship, but let’s not get him yet as we’ll save money in January, and hopefully nobody else will spot that and come in between to spoil our master plan.

The Berge bingo list grows ever longer. 😁

It’s no coincidence that we had two midfielders on the bench (plus Osborne) for an away game? Just a lucky/unfortunate coincidence that MGW had to go off injured and both midfielders on the bench got game time.
Supporters have bemoaned the lack of choices available in midfield for long enough. Now it seems even poorly performing players like Norwood, Fleck and Hourihane have been infected by Hecky’s enthusiasm and tactical nous.
We had the luxury of being able to give minutes to two players who clearly need chances to impress, even if it might be for different reasons.

Berge might want to be eased back in slowly, and the same caution will apply to Fleck. Berge might want a shop window to get a move, or he might be happy enough with staying put.
The good thing is, listening to Hecky, the first team squad will all get chances to impress.
The rest of December looks promising, January is a chance to consolidate our status, and February promises more fireworks against decent opposition.
I’m the meantime, worst case scenario, MGW might be recalled, suspensions and yellow cards are mounting up, and further injuries could stall our push.
Right now, the gods of the game seem to be smiling on the manager.

When he steps on the pitch he needs to believe he's the best midfielder in the division and dictate the game. He has the ability to do it but there's only been a few games where he's showed it.

I love the guy, and hope he stays and shows the division what he's about. I still think he needs an enforcer next to him to do the dirty stuff, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in a confident team with belief.
Bang on. Totally agree about having an enforcer next to him, was saying this last night to a mate.

Since he joined, we’ve barely won when he’s not been in the team, also.

I think he should earn his place in the starting XI btw, not be shoe-horned in after a decent half. But the notion that it all went to shit because of Berge, is false.

Try and keep him

and then GIVE HIM THE BALL with instructions to run at the defences of opposition

Berger I’m on about … was the only player when he had the ball last night who didn’t make my face resemble someone sucking a lemon and my body twitching uncontrollably.

He is calm - has control - an eye for a pass and the opposition , at this level, can’t deal with him

Time to stop forwards in every sense Mr Berger
He only did a little the other night but you can see what a player he is on just the little bits he was actually involved in. We haven't seen anything of him whatsoever in my opinion. Potentially the best player in the division in my opinion. Give him the minutes, get him fit, let him make his mind up at the end of the season.

Yet another 'player has a decent 45 minutes so is now a world-beater' thread.

Remember when Mousset was the guy to save us?

Even the 'terrible' Jack Robinson is now good enough for this league after one good game.

Berge is a quality player but needs to be handled carefully. He's had two bad injuries since he signed and needs to be slowly reintroduced.

We certainly shouldn't be changing a winning team to rush him back.

Half expected to see him in a layer of bubble wrap against Fulham TBH.

He's kept it well hidden from me. If he's been holding back that doesn't endear me either.

A lot of our players have looked indifferent over the lock out of crowds.
We the fans were the 12th man in the prem and lifted them to prem standard.
Without us they had doubts and lacked drive. We can't compete with star quality without our support.. As players can hear the support they are regaining their belief. We can make Berge look great.

Hecky seems to be getting players to lift their games. I hope he can do the same with Sander

But I’m countering the notion that he’s “absolute class” and deserves a starting place. Our stats are better without him thanwith him. Nothing ether actually witnessed, or concluded by results, backs that up.

Who would you drop for him?

He was one of our better players last season, before he got injured.

I witnessed him getting a strong tackle against Birmingham then not wanting to know after that, he looked like he wanted to cry, don't think he's cut out for the Championship too physical for him

He was repeatedly kicked and rugby tackled in that game, not long after coming back from an extremely nasty injury. You can't blame him for being cautious.
