Not made it to Prenton Park today so for the first time ever, I've missed seeing one of Monty's goals.

Anyone got the full set?

Not in any order (and all according to Soccerbase) - today, v Blackpool last season, v Leeds when we beat them 4-0, v Portsmouth in a 4-3 win, 2 v Birmingham (one in a 4-0 win and one in 2-4 cup defeat), v Wycombe in the cup, in a 2-1 win v Stoke in the promotion season, v Burnley (Baxter game?) and Walsall in consecutive games and a header at Crewe.

I've seen a great many of his concessions of penalties and free-kicks in dangerous positions. Dozens and dozens of them.

It's fucking relentless isn't it?

the burnley game if i remember rightly was when gazza played for them and we had a young side including mongy jags and tonge

Montgomery didn't score in that game. It was two from Jagielka and one from D'Jaffo. All three were very good goals. I think it was the saturday after the so called battle of Bramall lane.

The campaign to make a complete mediocrity some sort of local hero is indeed relentless.

Did anyone see Lee Williamson create two and score one in the space of 15 minutes on Tuesday?

Yep 23rd March 2002. the "BoBL" was on 16/3/02.

i dont remember rightly then i thought mongy got two and jags got one

Even Monty hasn't seen all of his 11 goals.

He just shuts his eyes and boots it. ;)

Jagielka opened the scoring in the first half at the Bramall Lane end. I think that was his first ever goal for the club. A well struck low shot from what looked like the edge of the box, left side. It might have taken a deflection, but from the kop end it was difficult to be sure of that or exactly how far away from goal he was.

The second was from D'Jaffo immediately after half time at the kop end. I think he was just outside the area and fairly central and curled it beautifully into the top lefthand corner (from his perspective). The third was from Jagielka. He played a one two with Ndlovu over on the right side (if facing the kop) and then placed a low shot inch perfect into the bottom left cornert.

I don't know why that game has stuck in my mind as much as it has done. Perhaps because Gascoigne was playing for them. I seem to remember him being partly responsible for our first goal. Or maybe it was because we had fielded some youngsters and looked very good that day. The way we really got after Burnely right from the start surprised me. Burnley were looking a good bet for the play offs, whereas we were frirmly in mid table.

I found that game to be quite uplifting, particularly after all the bad publicity we received following on from the battle of Bramall Lane. And it made my outlook for the next season a bit more optimistic.

You wouldn't believe how many times ive spoke of how monty looked a better player than jags in those early days
Even scoring two against burnley with gazza in the side
Ah the power of cider

Every now and then, by pure law of averages, the ball cannons off Monty's lower limbs and deflects freakishly toward goal. In this instance, the keeper was wrong footed, becaue Monty intended a crisp, low pass onto the feet of a fellow midfielder, somewhere in the game against Walsall.

Don't be fooled. Monty is a footballing potato.

pommpey (back, after a while)

Knew it was in from the moment he struck the ball, we were right behind it, beautiful :)
