John Harris by a mile.
I agree Harris was better then Basset. But surely Joseph Wastingholm deserves to be up there with the best? Not only was he in charge of team affairs when United won their only League title in 1892/3 ,he was also Yorkshire Cricket Club Secretary at that time.
My kinda man.

Wostinholm was the club secretary, not the manager

Why was Harris better than Bassett?

New Year's Day will be a full house. Hope CW gets a good reception. He deserves that.
I will give him the - sorry - a clap - then hope we batter them .

CW has GONE - we have what we have and we had better get out of this malaise of self pity and anger and someone, somewhere, somehow has to get a plan for this wonderfully supported under achieving erratic bi polar club .

Football under Harris was a delight to watch , his youth policy was far better too
Who came through the youth policy ?

I'm trying to recall some of the lads who probably came through (don't know if we bought them as i was only 10 when i started going in 1970 v Bristol City at home)

Faulkner? don't know if I've spelt it right but the big blond CH
Cammack?
McAlister?
Speight?
Salmons?
Another CH who's name escapes me but was also a Mc something

Wagstaff brothers
Woodward
Birchenall
Jones
Salmons
Speight

All of the above have made 100 1st team appearances. McAlister would have too if Marsh didnt break his leg

Wasn't being difficult just honestly interested -

When did Harris first become involved with Utd

FFS Chris wilder here, Chris Wilder there, Chris Wilder Bloody everywhere are we such a boring brainless fan base that we cant talk about anything else. He is now part of our history, he moved on, so Whether your pro Wilder or anti Wilder get over it and move on! We got far more important things to discuss. I don't know about any of you but I support SHEFFIELD UTD NOT Chris Wilder FC.
What if we changed our name?!

If I’m perfectly honest I think Middlesbrough is a good fit for Wilder. Gritty, working class club, a few years in the wilderness (pardon the pun) and sizeable fan base to draw on and a life long fan in the boardroom...Sound familiar?

Skint, miserable fans, play in red and white, from a place synonymous with Smog

Interesting to hear CW confirm on Five Live tonight that it was his decision to leave the club.

In his interview on R5 this evening, Wilder confirms it was his decision to leave United. He was also very positive about working under a DoF at Boro.

Not going to go down well with some on here.

Very interesting that last little bit, because it seems like this guy has a big say on recruitment and the direction of the club on the pitch, sounded like they are wanting to go down the Barnsley route.

TBH If i was going to pocket 3 - 4 mill , I would leave us too šŸ’°

And Wilder was effusive about it, by his standards. Said several times that working with a DoF will bring ā€œstructureā€ to his own role.

All of which suggests he’s (a) learned a lesson and is now thinking more pragmatically, or (b) he’s changed his mind, or (c) it was never really the contentious issue it’s been painted as at Utd.

Or possibly all of the above.

My theory is
The DOF issue is true but is more of a red herring.

Wilder has no issue about DOF. It was the feeling of being undermined that pissed him off. CW was initially employed at SUFC to be in control of transfers, then the Prince tells him is wheeling and dealing isn’t good enough and he’s having that role taken off him.

Wonder why he did that?
