Disgusting behaviour from Blades fans tonight

My lad went last night. He’s 17 and said he was shocked by some of the stuff he saw. He said he saw older fellas arguing with anyone who didn’t agree with them. The arguing turned nasty and they knocked over a youngish lad and started kicking them in the head. I’ve never been one to travel on the coaches but he said it was a coach from the barrel that was causing the problems. He also said it was all being filmed by the powers that be so there may be repercussions. Appreciate my lad falls into the youth category but I believe him as he can’t lie to save his life. Maybe you can’t teach old dogs new tricks like behaving at footie.

This has been building for about 10 years imo.

Having gone to matches for 40 years there's always been bother to varying degrees, it's nothing new.

What feels different to me though in recent years is the type of behaviour and those perpetrating it.

Most of what I see is young kids who look like they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag but after a bit of Charlie and been surrounded by like minded mates, they're as happy giving grief to their fellow Blades as anyone else.

Too much is done for the benefit of being filmed on a phone and then shared on social media, but the lack of respect for their fellow Blades stands out a mile for me.

I've seen potential skirmishes after most games this season but after the Huddersfield game I watched the most embarrassing fight I think I have ever seen.

In the Blades corner was a ~45 year old bloke (in body at least if not mind) and what I assume was his teenage Son. In the Hudds corner was a gang of around 8 x 17 year olds who were rowdy, presumably from sharing half a bag of sniff and 12 bottle crate of Bud Light between them.

After some "come here and say that" posturing both groups broke at the underpass on Bramall Lane and rejoined as both sets come out at Decathlon.

Dad Blades fan threw a left slap and Hudders head boi threw a left windmill of his own, the safest place to stand would've been inbetween them until they both started wrestling on the grass for a minute or so.

If the playground rollabout wasn't embarrassing enough - they ended it by calling a truce and shaking hands. It was nice to see a dignified, warriors code still stands in today's world. I was relieved they did end it because if it had gone on much longer someone could've got a nasty scratch that might've got infected without immediate treatment.

On the subject of a passionate atmosphere....
A passionate atmosphere is built on supporting your own team, on being FOR something.
Increasingly people get sucked into believing a passionate atmosphere is about being AGAINST something (in this case the opposition fans). That creates a bantering, posturing, finger pointing, throat slitting gesture, christ the redeemer environment (within which Blade on Blade violence can fester).
You're not supposed to be singing "at" the other fans. You're supposed to be singing "at" your own team.

Tend to agree. If there were fights breaking out all over the place, as the OP suggests, I’m sure there would have been a noticeable amount of stewards running around.
Aye:
Steward: excuse me sir, I wonder if you could possibly desist from stomping on your fellow supporters cranium;
Customer #1; My that’s a classy high visibility jacket, is it the latest Aquascutum product ? Of course I’ll respond to your request, I’m sorry that my behaviour has been deemed unacceptable
Customer #2 - thuckin hewl I fink my dose is busth, hope I havwent bweeded on your twainers
Customer #1: Shut the fuck up or I’ll kick you teeth so far down your throat you’ll have to put your toothbrush up your ‘arris
Steward: Now now sir, no need for that, after all, you’re all Blades aren’t you ?
All: aye that’s right - let’s go on the concourse & do some keys

The Barrel mob are causing aggro lately. I do go in there but I’m always on edge. It kicked off in there after we played West Ham last year. A dickhead who was nothing to do with it, ran over and launched a stool into a crowd which just missed taking my eye out. As I’m virtually blind in one eye this really fucked me off big time. Me and my brother now call it the ‘OK Barrel’. Most of these wankers would have shit themselves if they’d have been sent into Helmand.

There has been at least 3 people confirming what the OP reported, including my post. Not calling you out but I witnessed this shit with my own eyes. I fucking hated last night. I felt like celebrating more after Forest scored just because it shut the fucking feckless idiots up around me. I didn't get a chance to celebrate our goal because I was concerned for my fucking safety with some of the behaviour around us. Like Ball_Sup said regarding you singing and supporting AT your team. I don't give a fuck about giving it the wanker sign to the opposition fans. A bit of banter is fine but do it with the singing and show your support in that way. Not at the fucking fans giving them the throat slit gesture or trying to pick a fight. Fucking grown men, grow up. Not directed at you btw Rob86

Sad state of affairs when ,there's no respect for fellow blades .some of these yoofs are simply embarrassing .hope they like the porridge they are going to get sooner or later .

These guys will be posting videos on tiktok and snapchat to look hard and wild. I would be more scared if all these yobs were more organised and move/sang like an army. Like the russians in the euros.

Saw a video on Facebook other day captioned West ham fans wait for Tottenham outside the ground,a little door and 1 steward stopped them 'getting at each other' in the comments it was confirmed it was Tottenham waiting for West ham still handbags though and this stuff makes you hard apparently.

I've not been since before the first lockdown after only missing one or two away games a season since I was a kid. Honestly, the behaviour of a (growing) minority of our fans is the reason why. I like to stand, shout, moan and sing like anyone else but over the last few seasons there's been a more and more people coked up, cramming into your row 15 minutes after kick off if your seat is at the back/near away fans so they can spend all game offering the home fans out and throwing bottles/coins/anything else they can find.

I love United and I've spent my whole life following them up and down the country but right now with my Dad in his late sixties and my young daughter no doubt taking an interest in football as she gets older, I can't see a time I'll want to go to an away game in the near future with the people following us at the moment. Don't get me wrong I love an atmosphere at the more supposed intimidating grounds, but I have no interest in coming home covered in ale and with grown men offering us out after the match because we don't want to give up half our seat for them to sway about in. (this happened at a home game, never mind away!)

(And before anyone asks, no you can't use my loyalty points 😆)

Affected my enjoyment last night too. I've been to every away game this season bar Luton and I hated last night all because of a very small minority of our fans. I fucking did not enjoy what I experienced last night. It's mostly young lads aged between 18-30 I would say. Either pissed up and/or on drugs. I was sat right next to the home fans where the big cover was behind the goal and I didn't really enjoy celebrating us going 1-0 up at all. As soon as we scored I celebrated and got fucking mauled by a load of our lot all just fucking egging on the forest fans which I get. I get it. Nowt wrong with that but one particular idiot seemed to want to jump on the big cover and really start egging on their fans. So much so that he carried on right until they scored the equaliser and looked a right tool. There were a lot of forest fans going to the stewards asking to get rid of him. I actually was hoping they would. I was thinking to myself have you been to any games this season because I was fairly certain they would come back into it and he would look like a right idiot and so he did. Then when they equalised their fans all approached us and tried to lift said cover up. All because we wanna cause a fucking fight.

I don't mind giving a bit of stick to the fans, do not get me wrong. But where I was sat they were more interested in saying stuff like "your trousers are from primark" and "you live in a council house" than watching the match. Seriously. I swear they didn't even watch half the game. It was in my fucking earhole the whole fucking game and I hated it. I barely celebrated our goal as I said because I got fucking slaughtered. I'm not the tallest guy (5ft 9) but I just could not stand it last night.

By the way, to whoever has said this is all bullshit about fights on the concourse and in the toilets and the bust up at half time. Seriously, pipe down. It did happen. I saw it with my own eyes. Near the end at the toilets, yes. At half time there was something going on as well and people had to be calmed down. Didn't quite see the half time incident but something was going on. Fucking hated it last night and in a strange sort of way I was fucking glad it was a draw because the lads round me would have got worse and escalated shit if we had held on.

I knew as soon as I sat down right next to their fans with just a cover in between us that I might be in for a rough ride. My girlfriend was sat right at the other side and I should have sit with her where there was a spare seat.
Me and my dad were right near you by the sounds of it. The lad giving it all that was stood in the seat next to us, and spent most of the night shoving himself in front of and behind us to get right at the piece of tarp between us and the home fans. Both him and his pal had their phones out filming their antics to add straight to their Snapchat stories. As you say, once we conceeded the lads in the home end were then seemingly quite keen to get over to us and give it back, which us and the older chaps and disabled fans just behind the net would have got caught up in had they been successful. Didn't see any of the Blade on Blade fighting, but at half time there were some 'you what' face offs at the top of the stairs back into the concourse so it wouldn't surprise me if that carried on elsewhere.

Obviously poor behaviour is poor behaviour, but I wonder if this is being enhanced by seating areas not being treated like seated areas and more to the point the lack of will or ability for clubs to enforce the seating regulations. If it were a terrace, you simply would choose not to stand by these people, but with seat allocations, there’s little choice and once the clubs abandon their responsibilities to at best making a few half hearted PA announcements or printing a couple of sentences in the match day program, there’s little way to avoid other people who behave In this way.

Worse place for this I’ve found is Wembley, like minded supporters and their mates are scattered all over the place because of the way tickets are allocated and some choose to behave like they were at the back of a stand right down near the front rows, that in turn annoys others and the confrontations start. The stewards are useless.

Perhaps it would better In my opinion, if there was a return to well designed and managed standing areas. At least these are designed for standing and folk who want to sit can sit in the stands were people respect the seating. I would rather stand in front of or behind a barrier than have to stand in a seated area where the seat in front presents an obstacle to fall over.

Not sure what stewards are paid now but my mate used to do it in south London 20 odd years ago and had his nose broken at a Milwall game. Got an extra £20 for his troubles.

Ha ha, yeah I saw that one. If any video shows how pathetic they are then that’s the one. Giving it large while the door is shut and then as soon as it opens they didn’t know what to do, apart from throw beer. Both sides were then happy for the steward to come along and shut the door while he said ‘Stop it’

Saw enough of this sort of coked up shit at Wembley in 2014 which ended up with Blades fighting Blades. Haven't been to an away game since and won't too old for this shit and don't want to be stood for 90mins just because some drunk wants to stand. Yes it would be better to have standing areas for those who are able and want to stand many can't but these young un's don't give a toss, no respect for owt or anyone in this world today for a lot of them.

No probs at all mate.

I wasn’t there so should have probably kept my mouth shut about it !

Reminds me of Port Vale fans bouncing and kicking off when we won 3-0 towards the end of our promotion season in 2017 at Vale park. Trying to “get” at United fans the huge gate suddenly swung open and for 5 seconds or so the chance was there’s. The just stood there like statues and waited for the stewards to close it again before carrying on bouncing and attempting to get to the Blades fans again. Grown men. Utterly embarrassing but so funny

This sums it up it for me ...not an enjoyable experience anymore, fucking sad that

Happens at a lot of clubs, and especially when things aren't going well... Sunderland have a similar thread about them,it's not only United.

I got on an unusually late train to go to the game on Saturday , it's the leeds to Sheffield train which calls at Rotherham.
It was packed with Sunderland fans .
They must have an high proportion of homosexuality within their fan base as they were all going to the bogs in twos and threes .....
40 50 yr old geezers .....
Strange

And on the way back they decided to jump of at swinton have a ruck on the platform with a few millers then just jumped back on .....
This definitely happened..🥺

This club's going downhill very quickly on and off the pitch
Why’s that then? Football violence has been happening for decades & were in the middle of rebuilding a tired average squad with a proven champ manager & I believe a very decent owner. Let’s keep it positive pal!!
