What happens if promotion isn’t achieved?

A big shitstorm. I was pointing this out when the loans started coming in, rather than a few permanents. Have a little look at our contracted players for next season. It's scary stuff. If we don't make the play offs it seems inconceivable that the manager will remain in situ. So ten new players and a new manager seems a not unlikely outcome.

I’d rather shit in my hands and clap.
What benefit would we gain? Players, manager, ground, training ground, academy, league position all below us

Hi Stegosaurus here,
We'd gain a ground that we could sell.
A bunch of players that we can use in our squad or sell if they aren't good enough.
A bunch of experienced staff members
A pooled scouting network
Plus an increased fanbase. Adding Wednesday's fanbase to our own will triple it in size.

Shades of Adkins and Wilder. A clean slate might work for us.

I agree re Jokanovic.

The ground is worthless and already owned by a third party.
The squad is worthless.
The staff are shit.
The scouting network at Wednesday is shit.
If we added Wednesday's fanbase to ours, our fanbase wouldn't double in size. It would maybe add a quarter or a third at best.

The idiots on here will fight it out to the death in the car park on Cherry Street. Tickets are available on a first come first served basis.
Do i have enough loyalty points - hope so

We could merge kits and play in blue and red stripes
Then with the massive behind us, we could tempt Pep to lead Barca of the north

Bazaa as a balding Messi, Brewster can do his best Neymar routine

Maybe re-dig out “hole in the road” as our own Nou Camp

We will become everyone 2nd team, win the premier league in 3 years, champs league year after

What’s not to like, ticks every box

I'd like us to smash the league next season, winning it at a canter, scoring loads of goals then tell the Premier league thanks but no thanks we will decline their promotion and stay in the championship then win the championship the season after again and once again tell them to knickers we are staying put, and so on and so on. All the time racking up more and more championship winners trophies for our sparce trophy cabinet. Not sure how the prize money situation would work but money isn't everything, its all about the glory.

I think the Premier League would feel really offended if we did that.

Financial meltdown?

genuinely worried about the outcome of this season.
I don't think there is any intent from the Board to achieve promotion this year.

Even if we managed to fluke it, they are not in a position to spend the money needed to keep us there. Better option is for us to end up mid-table this season.
It is going to take a big enough investment this summer just to keep us in the Championship. No way can they spend enough to build a Premier League squad

why would we meltdown we get parachute payments
we get 25 k plus gates
we have a third of the squad whose contracts end in June 22 so can severely cut the wage bill
we have saleable assets on the park

yes we aint got a barrel of money. but we never had

we just go again
saleable assets at a loss or if we are lucky breakeven .The only profitable assets we have are the kids one out on loan and one showing his ability in our first team -yet again selling the best long term
assets we have others to cut a wage bill that's not good

I think Pep, Jurgen and Tommy Tuchel would be offended...…how dare you not come up to our best league in the world and not let us spank you by 5 or 6 home and away with 12% possession.

A lot might depend on where we finish this season.
If we make the playoffs then we will once again be seen as an attractive proposition for the MGWs of this world.
Mid table nothingness might make it harder to attract anyone decent.

you are aware we survived130 years without mega money in the league
no saleable assets
berger mc burnie mousset even Brewster would sell as would stevens egan
might even get a tenner for Burke

transfer market conservatively puts squad at 124 m

It’s interesting actually, in the 45 years I have supported United, after gaining promotion to the top league, we dont stay long, then after relegation, generally struggle, then end up back in division 1 again or even division 2
Full slide after being relegated and of course fail every time we get into the play offs

Not having that !
I’ll never get a ticket for QPR away

I continue to accumulate ‘loyalty’ points each week comfortable in the knowledge that I (again) no longer am subject to the whining / wheedling of plastic part time twats😳

We get over £30M from the 2nd parachute payment. Slav will get a better chance of having the players he wants in his favoured system.

I will still support the Blades.

Since 1976 I see us as a top 10 club of the 2nd tier.

How on earth do we not have the resources to compete in this division, after two years in the Prem and a flirt with Europe? Especially with the new TV deal that came in just as we got promoted. If that's true, it's one of the most shocking examples of mismanagement of a football club ever.

Who know where we will be next year. After watching the Blades for 60+ years I knew that the euphoria of our Wilders years was unlikely to extend beyond three of four seasons. The football gods would be rubbing their hands, ready to penalise us again when we looked that good. We manage, occasionally, to look as though we are on the cusp of something really good only for circumstances, underinvestment, sale of best players or bad management of the Board/team manager or any combination of these for it all to disappear almost overnight. Players who raised their game to new levels suddenly look has-beens and the downward cycle begins again. Who would be a Blades fan. Well, I still will be but it is hard for most of the time. Mid table at best I think this season but we needa complete re-build.
