First day I was so against him. Then as pre-season progressed he gradually started to win me over. Before the game yesterday I was 60-40 in favour.

After seeing them play yesterday then I think that he could do great things for us.

Anyone else changed their minds a little/lot or are you still totally against him?

The vast majority were never totally against him. I sense that there has been a substantial number who were lukewarm at best (like me) who have really warmed to him. He is obviously a very decent man, conducts himself impeccably and likes to play the game in the right way.

I think he might just do very well for us. I'm now glad he got the job and backing him 100%

I was not over the moon with his appointment. However what I witnessed at Oldham has given me cause for optomism. Can't fault DW so far.

I was unsure as to whether he was the right man for the job, but I have a fault of seeing the best in people and being positive, so have been optimistic throughout the close season. Part of me really wants him to do bloody well and take us up to the prem, just so we can really rub some snouts in it

So far so good for DW. I was 50-50 when he was appointed but was always going to behind him as long as he was our manager.

Always liked him. Guess I'm not your target audience...

:)
Your opinion wont have changed from day 1. Its more people like me who didnt want him but are warming to him

Obviously? Monty, Doyle, Cressy, Collins, Quinn? You've changed your tune...:D

I've thawed a bit, but there was no evidence of total football yesterday, or a wish to even play it given the line up.

Not that I really care. I just want the masses to give him time, which makes a good start a must.

Definitely a (very early) 'work in progress'. I too was underwhelmed by his appointment and will need until at least November to begin to come round. Unlike the plank who sits near me who always said Warnock 'was the worst manager we've ever had' and never changed his mind. Ever. (He also said he had been lucky at QPR...)

It could be that certain of our players have the nous, experience etc. to provide that bit extra at this level. Or maybe they've found their level.

Personally, I feel that selling Monty and/or Quinn before the deadline would pull the rug from under DW as I'm sure they can both excel in this division. Also doubt we'll see Morgs again, which would be grievous.

You won't find me complaining. Have a look at my illustrious post history and you'll see I wanted Danny when KB was rumoured to be getting the boot :)

He's working with what he's got. I'm confident the team will look and play very differently in 12 months time.

Monty could not excel in his own garden. He has no talent with which to excel. Quinn is now playing proper football and I'm happy with that.

Guys, we have beaten a very poor Oldham side that in all probabilities will be battling against relegation all year !
We still have the high earners that are draining the club dry Evans, Montgomery, Cresswell etc - from all accounts the new signings Porter and Flynn didn't excel and Simonsen never had a shot to save.
I will save my judgement of Wilson until there has been a few more games and a few harder tasks to complete - The midfield pairing of Monty and Doyle are hardly the most creative unit in football ! but hopefully Monty will be on his way soon to pastures new and release some much needed funding for proper footballers to be recruited.
Wilson - I don't like him but if he does a job I'll tolerate him but he has got to prove himself before I evenm get to that stage!! - One swallow etc etc etc

It is not a case of winning me over, its more proving me wrong he did that Saturday and i hope he does that come May. We won't win every game i know that and we will have bad performances but we need to be consistent this season and if we can pick up 9 points from the first 3 games we will have made the perfect start. I doubted DW Saturday with his team selection and i am really glad he proved me wrong he got it right and i hope that continues. Well done DW and the lads Saturday lets hope it is the start of an enjoyable season.

1) The fact the high earners are still here is hardly Wilson's fault, 2) maybe not but LJF did :)

The problem dp will be that the anti-Wilson brigade will go to town when our 1st bad result comes along. I was less than impressed with the starting line-up on Saturday but he picked a team to do a job and they did. His selection on Saturday could be more telling but then again, it would be harsh to change a winning team.

I appreciate the point but he knew that when he took the job so don't whinge about the fact all the time and yes I believe LJF did have a good game !
But, the point is Wilson still has a lot to prove with his Total Football outlook and we have won one game - lets not get carried away!!

He kept Williamson and McCallister out of the side for starters. It seems even our new total footbll manager sees something you still can't.

It's not whinging, it's stating fact. If journo's keep asking the question about transfers, he's going to give the same answer.

Agree about Saturday's result, and I think we'll find it easier away from home this season. Our problem will be breaking teams down at home as most will come for a point so the next two league games will tell us a lot more about Wilson and how the season is likely to go.

My problem is not with Wilson but with the board. Wilson has stated in one of his first interviews as united boss that he didn't even apply for the post and it was KM who asked him to become the boss. We get all this rubbish from KM and the board about a through search for the best man and get someone who didn't want to be the blades boss, who hasn't done anything in the past 10 years, nearly took Swindon down and then linked with all their players. If that the best (players) we can get, then Wilson is not the guy for us.

It's one game, I wouldn't judge a player after one game, neither would I the manager. Oldham aren't great and will be lower half of the division, but you can only beat what is put in front of you and the team Wilson picked did that quite comfortably. Talk about flair and playing it on the deck all you want, but if results like that continue most Blades will not give a toss whether it's Monty and Doyle or Bodie and Doyle in midfield!

He wasn't my first choice in manager but everything he's said in pre-season and all the players he's brought in and had on trial appear to be the right players for us.

You're a genius, DP

Too early to tell. Was underwhelmed by the appt but he has conducted himself professionally (the least we could have expected) without ripping up any trees.
Never questioned the integrity of the man (never worried about his pig or dingle connections either) mostly about recent track record.
Talks sense and doesn't get too carried away - certainly not as mind numbingly boring to listent to as the ginger pig - he suits those truffle hunting morons down the to trough, doesn't he?

There are plenty of hurdles to overcome before we can get a clear picture on how well DW might manage us this season.
Ched's pending case and whether or not we get lumbered paying his wedge for most of the season (not sure this will have cleared before end of tranny window)
Cup games - will we wilt and give up or stand up to lower teams?
Quinn, Willo, Monty - will they - won't they?
First home defeat
First sticky patch of form
Can we score plenty of goals as well as cut out the mistakes at the back?

Jury is still out - solid start but the jury is still out

As always I try to look at things in a balanced/ pragmatic manner. So what was/ is the target for the new manager - Quite simply, taking into account the size of the club, the ambitions expressed (but not always followed up) of the club and its fans. The only target we can consider for this season is Promotion and considering our many, many failures in big games, Play Off's is not an option - So the managers single target is Automatic Promotion. Everything else is a nice to have.

So I have highlighted the milestones and my perspective up to this stage.

Upon Appointment - I was totally against him because of his previous record as a failure I believed he would most likely fail here.

Building his backroom - A bit slow, but seems to have got there now. Whether they are any good at their jobs will be seen in time, but I hope the set pieces and fitness issues are getting addressed as a key concern.

Preseason - Did nothing spectacular, probably not entirely his fault when looking at key points like Transfers, player contracts and Commercial commitments. Most likely that he has been extremely restricted. Talks a lot and talks a good game, but impossible to tell how he was going to address the issues from his PR offensive, other than seeing him bring in potentially exciting youngsters. He hasn't addressed some key issues like bringing in good experience, so we have to rely on him getting the best out of players that we know all too well. The issue of creating a passing side is an interesting one. We'd all like to see us playing football like Man U in the 2nd half yesterday, but it will take time, he's made some moves to bring in the exciting side of things, but are we in danger of having lots of enthusiasm and little of the new experience/ guile coming in to replace the deadwood. The Ched situation can't have helped.

Friendlies - It eventually took shape and two decent work outs at the end v Donny and Blackpool will have been good, can't really assess the benefits of Malta for anything more than fitness and PR.

1st Game - Team - Simmo, Collins, Doyle, Cresswell are all massive question marks from last season. Its a lot of faith to put in failures from last season, so its obviously a clean slate for all. If you add Monty, Quinn and the french lad into there, then we have existing experience through the spine. What all of that doesn't do is support Wilsons desire to play pretty football. Of all of those, Quinn is the only one with a footballing brain. Looking at the team and only being able to catch the 2nd half, it seemed to be a good blend of youth and experience.

So what does this tell us? Not much. Its just 1 game against a predictably poor opposition. I always say that a team needs at least 10 games before we can make a proper assessment.

Does it change my opinion of Wilson? Not really, it was a decent result, a necessary result and played out in a professional manner (from what I understand). I'm pleased to see him sticking his neck out and potentially go against his philosphy by playing a team of mainly grafters to suit the type of game.

Positives - The result. Wilsons confidence to play the grafters and Youngsters.

Question marks - Were we organised? Did we look better at set pieces at the back and up front? How will the wingers cope against a more physical side? How will we cope if/ when we go a goal down? When will he change and go for the bolder move of playing more youngsters, more exciting players in line with his philosophy. Did he set up in this way because of the oppo or was that his best team?

So in a game of Youth and experience, the goals came from both. Wilson now has to carry this on for every game.

Didn't need to win me over because I was working on the assumption that Monty and Doyle would not form our centre-midfield pairing. Know what you mean Swiss re Danny having confidence to pick em because defeats with them two in midfield will lead to huge problems for him. Very disappointed he picked these two talentless, pathetic footballers.

Looking forward to seeing what happens on Saturday. Brentford's tactics will be very simple - let Monty and Doyle have the ball and mark everyone else.

Really did take the edge off Saturday night for me having these two in midfield because we all know how painful the football will be to watch.

when he started back in june me & my family were annoyed but we thought out it and said it could be a masterstoke because he wont a honeymoon period, will have to work twice as hard to win over fans & utd fans are quaranteed a flying start & play offs becasue he knows anything else and hes sacked so it could go very well or very badly

and then when we won i said "did i ever say how much i liked Danny wilson" and i think the more game we win the more fans will warm to Danny Wilson

I thought Doyle did OK on Saturday, rarely wasted the ball unlike his partner in crime. Monty had a better 2nd half but by then, Oldham had had the stuffing knocked out of them and weren't really pressing us as much as they did in the 1st half.

The interesting thing for me was that they were both obviously instructed to get it out wide and whilst we failed to get Flynn into the game much, I think it showed how DW wants us to play. A skillful midfielder would make a massive difference though.

One win doesn't make a season BUT its a start.

I thought Doyle did OK on Saturday
I did too, and as anyone sat near me will attest, I was his biggest critic last year. "OK" is still only OK though, the 2 of 'em together will cause us big problems with retention of possession against better teams in this league IMO.

As it stands with no departures I'd go with:
Flynn, Willo, Monty, Quinn

And I think Monty and Quinn will go before the deadline, so:
Flynn, Willo, Doyle, Mendez-Liang (or Tonne)

We'll need to know where we are with McDonald after any departures, and I - like others - wonder why it's all gone quiet on McAllister, who looked promising at the end of last season.
