It does raise the question, where are the guys who do make it big if not the youth set up, non league? Also such weak stats for bringing through the young ones, supports a policy of recruiting older proven league players.

The ones that will make it as strikers need to be in and around the first team before they’re turning 20.
Lankshear may just be well ahead of his age group physically, plus taking advantage of the level of defending and goalkeeping they encounter at those age groups. Not forgetting of course that the quality across academies differs considerably, with the vast majority being level 2. Hull’s set up has been a shambles, and the standard very poor. Though from my lads age group Lewis Potter and Greaves always stood out as just that bit better. Lots of lads very good are there to make up the numbers so “the ones” can go on to make it.

How did we manage to get this lad from Arsenal, I presume he wasn’t released?

Reason I ask is there a Blades connection? I may be getting mixed up with another player I’m not sure, but I thought I had seen Lankshears Grandad on Twitter saying how proud he was of his Grandson, the Grandad is a Blade.

I think arsenal made it known to the player that he wouldn’t be signing a scholarship deal with arsenal and so would be leaving once his schoolboy terms ended and as such he was allowed to go and try and find a new club. As to how he then ended up on our radar I don’t know but he isn’t one that arsenal wanted to keep.

Wilks looks like he’ll make a career at league one/champ level as well which is good going. Brennan Johnson for forest will definitely play his career at champ level and maybe prem he’s look decent for a poor forest side.

Thanks Phil fascinating reading and proof if any were needed how hard it is to make the step up no matter how you shine as a youngster. My downfall at that age was birds and booze but that’s another story ….

It's difficult to tell if people were being serious or mischievous about the possibility of Lankshear being involved with the first team v Southampton. Mischievous I suspect. Just reading of how they are absolutely gushing about Lankshear at Spurs right now…

After injury, the lad finally made his debut for Spurs u18s against Wolves. Any way he was brought onto the pitch with his new side 3-0 down, but quickly stamped himself on the game with 2 goals and an overall outstanding performance to pull it back for a draw….they are raving about him down there.
