The amount of caveats in ornsteins tweet

  • initially wanted £40m
  • only applicable if / when he becomes an established first choice

Clearly Arsenal PR machine kicking into gear. Means they know it’s a lot and want to look good to their unconvinced fan base, who don’t want him.

Overall a fair deal I would say. We get a profit on a keeper that had an up and down season. Hopefully we can spend some monies now

also the sale puts us in a better financial position re berge

£4.8 Million profit after sell on fee deducted
We paid Bournemouth £13.6m after our 25% sell on came off. That works out at £17m total.

We'll owe Bournemouth 10% of the £7m profit (£24m-£17m) on the headline price. That leaves us with £9.7m profit (£24m-£13.6m paid less the sell on). Not bad for a season.

I’m glad I support a business who are interested in making a profit rather than a football club who are interested in getting promoted

If this goes through for the numbers quoted... Its a great deal..

Good deal for me but only if we sign a new bastard team with the money
And thats not happening. Seems to be widely accepted thst relegated team raise around 40m to partially offset the lost income. We are still 10m short...Baldock ?

Most likely outcome is we bring on more loanees including a keeper.

Comes across as a nice lad.

as a goalkeeper he’s either an absolute disaster or exceptional. He’s not been anything in between. He’s still got age and time on his side though and might develop into a top keeper but for now I think it’s a good deal for us…

that’s a good deal for us if we’ve a suitable replacement lined up and some money will be re-invested into the rest of the squad.

It’s pretty worrying that we’ve probably had north of 1/4 of a billion pounds from our premier league adventure and we still rely on Didzy and Sharp tonight. It’s needs sorting ASAP.

Fans wanting to sell ramsdale so we can finance a QPR keeper and a 500k winger from Crewe is finest example of we never think like a big club.
Reece, we're not a big club, so naturally we should cast our gaze far and wide if we're to sign the sort of quality we're in need of.

If there's a criticism I do share with many posters, it's that we give the appearance of being a soft touch when another club wants to sign a Blade, and when a so-called 'big' club comes calling our past response is to melt at the knee, say thank you, grab the money, and if the sun is out the manager, whoever that happens to be, is expected to feel grateful if he receives less than 30-50% of any fee received to spend on strengthening our squad.

The question of football's finances have been discussed and dissected until I'm blue in the face. Of course we mustn't act like five bob millionaires and spend way beyond our means, plus there's the infrastructure that also needs our attention, so just in case anyone forgot the small question of wages, well there, in a nut shell you have the prickly agenda that all clubs are confronted with. I've no idea how our finances are currently - perhaps ask Sean Thornton about that - but as important as all of these questions are, the quality of decision making when it comes to the type of players we need to recruit is the one that I'd put under the microscope as there's plenty of room for improvement where that's concerned.

It’s bleeding obvious from our first two matches that scoring goals is going to be a huge problem this season if we don’t bring in a few new players.

Ramsdale hasn’t overly impressed me, so the fact that it looks like we’re going to make a profit on him is an amazing deal.

We just need to invest the majority of the money in the squad and I’ll be optimistic about this season.

I don’t think we’d miss Ramsdale. That said I don’t think we’d miss Berge either. Shame really but them two came in and the Blades got worse.

Accepted there is a 40 million shortfall. That isn't the same. Some (most / all) had wage reductions so that's us spending less.

I.e. If I earn £100 today then I can spend £100

If had instead been paid £60 then I can only spend £60, it doesn't mean I have to raise £40 before I can spend anything. I just wouldn't spend the £40 I don't have.

Or at least that's how I interpreted what was said anyway. Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Anyway, good luck Rammers.

Reece, we're not a big club,
That’s all that’s required really. We’re not a big club and we haven’t had an owner prepared to spend ridiculous amounts of money knowing that they’ll probably never see a return on it. When we’ve sold players in the past, we’ve had to. And if you have to sell, you’re not in a position to hold out for above market value.

football.london understands that Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a fee believed to be in the region of £24million.

Ramsdale has been left out of the Blades' squad ahead of their game against West Brom on Tuesday night, with a move to the Emirates Stadium likely to be confirmed in the coming days.

The Gunners have been interested in the 23-year-old all summer and had previously been put off by United's steep asking price but our sister title Yorkshire Live confirmed on Wednesday evening that a deal had been 'completed in principle' earlier in the day.

Imagine somebody telling you in October "we'll go down as one of the worst teams in PL history but Rammers will go to Arsenal for more than we paid"

You'd think they were bladders
