I don’t think people realise how crucial it is to have a very good keeper. This would be a really bad deal if it were to happen. 🤬

We need to improve our defense, drastically.

Don’t need a good keeper if nothing gets past your new and improved defence

Verrips played well last season out of loan according to reports so maybe we already have another one!
How long has Verrips been here? I’m not writing the bloke off but he still hasn’t established himself as a number two never mind a number one! Plus the fee been reported is not enough for a player of Ramsdales calibre.

He's only been out of the team because of Henderson and Ramsdale, no shame there.

He was unfortunately injured for a while and Wilder sent him out on loan for Foderingham, again no shame there.

A keeper talks to the defence, he is the one that provides the confidence, we do need a CB but now we’ll need a new keeper plus a CB, then they’re going to need time to gel. A GK is something we currently don’t need, now we might do on top of the other positions, it isn’t ideal.

He hasn’t been our established number two, once.

I’ve said this on another thread but he was a PL player when he joined us, and he’d put in some good performances for Bournemouth. Has he really improved so dramatically that we can realistically expect to make a huge profit on him? For the first three months he was here, I think we wouldn’t have even got our money back.

I don’t want him to leave, not at all, but if we need money to do deals, we can’t just wait until the deadline day and hope someone will offer what we want.

If this is the case then questions need to be asked as to why we’re so skint that we can’t bring a few loans in without getting rid of our best talent? It’s a shocking and desperate deal.

Serious question. How do you judge his calibre? Couple of decent performances towards the end of last season and a double Premier league relegation on his CV. He's still relatively young and could turn out to be a top goalie but he might not. If it's 20 million and it's guaranteed to be reinvested in the team then to me it's just good business.

He wasn’t the reason both teams went down, his stats back everything up, he’s now an England player, whether he’s played or not, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know he’s going to get better and better. This is a desperate deal if the figures are right, I think they offered more weeks ago. We already need a few players, this now means we need more, for me it just isn’t his valuation mate, no where near.

Because we spent the PL money on transfers and wages and now the tv income has been reduced by 40%.

That's terrible business. The agreed fee with Bournemouth last season was circa £23m. Sold him at a loss after getting Player of the Season and a call up to the England squad. Embarrassing.

We've not sold him.

£20m to Arsenal from the writer of 'we're getting Ryan Sessegnon"...
