He never crossed the halfway line in the first half, 2nd half chasing the game he was our biggest threat so why not just start him further up the pitch?

Totally agree. Berge managed to get 4(!) Birmingham players booked from driving forward, so it beggars belief that he's been playing so deep.

We can only hope that signing Vieira gives us a proper screen in front of our back 4, which should give Sander the licence to burst forward that will make him 10x more effective. The glimpses of attacking intent he showed today suggested that his forward play is levels above this division, so it's imperative that (assuming we can hold onto him) Slav implements a system where Berge is able to push on. Most of our bright points today came when he was able to do so!

Thats bang on. The 4 you mention are not adding anything to the team. Stick 4 from the u23s in until we eventually sign some players.

Berge can’t play as a 10 you’d neuter his strongest attribute. He’s caused chaos tonight by starting 25/30 yards out driving past one player and then another and either getting into the box or sliding it through the channels at the gallop. Asking him to play on the edge of the opponent’s box and play little 2/3 yard balls to unlock a back 4 would be pointless. He’s the player who opens the game up for a 10 either by dragging opponents away from the space a 10 works in and then giving that player the ball with space to hurt sides or by driving to the byline and pulling it back for the 10 on the edge of the box. He’s a superb attacking player but a tricky number 10 he is not.

If I was Sander Berge I'd be sat in the dressing room writing my transfer request, he is wasted in that midfield Fleck and Norwood did the square root of fuck all tonight.

Thought that myself when that Ginger kid, Woods I think pulled him back by his shirt and got booked near the halfway line

This was the case last season. Utterly ineffective in a holding role, and only made any impact on the game when he carried the ball forward.

He may as well not have been on the pitch for most of the 1st half, then he suddenly made a run forward and drew a foul (with a yellow card) in a dangerous position.

He's been out for months and months. We've had two preseason games. The first half he was quiet, throughout he was a tad rusty, the second half they didn't know how to handle him.

Add Viera, free him up and tell Fleck or Freeman to run at people and we could be exciting.

Norwood set pieces aside did nothing wrong tonight though his role was easy only player not getting pressed by Birmingham can you add Robinson to that list he’s fucking tripe

Biggest positive for me was his 2nd half performance, but looked knackered,lack of pre-season showed.. Must admit we look weak defending crosses,especially in the air.. need more height, there's only Egan who is capable in the air at the back.
Early days though, I think we'll take a few games to get going.
