Bert is / was a Businessman

When you run a Business you always ask to get it for less, I would and do.

Sometimes they reply No, sometimes they reply Yes.

The ones who reply Yes get more Business, as shown in this example.

I get asked for reductions, I always try to make a step towards them, even if it is a small step.

On that basis I'd be interested to know if, when Bert goes to Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose or wherever, whether, as a businessman., he tries to negotiate the price down on every item he takes through the checkout and, if he does, how many supermarkets he has been banned from :-)

But the point is would it be cost effective for SUFC staff to cross examine every person who tried to "do a Bert" once it got out that the club were open to hagglers?

Do you think that Bert would be stupid enough to make this public if he had got the discount?

I think if the club gave discounts to everyone who asked politely for them it would soon get out.

Does Bert think everyone who was ballsy enough to obtain the exceptional treatment would also be totally discreet? I don't.

Obviously it can't be done in Tesco's etc but you can bet your last copy of Socialist Worker that Bert does it everywhere else.

Why do you think he has to shop in Cuba, pissed every Business from here to Cuba well off ;¬)

Paying the same price as last year for an inferior product is not Bert's idea of a discount.

And yet, when you don't get your discount 6 weeks after deadline date, you whinge that the club has lost your business?

Approx 10,000 took up the offer and the club gained their business. Why? Because they went down, called, went online to purchase their ticket during the clear discount period

Never read SW in my life as it happens.

I don't disagree that sometimes it's appropriate to ask for discounts and sometimes it isn't. I happen to think that SUFC are in the Tesco camp rather than the bloke who comes to fix your telly camp

Have to say I disagree with bert on this, there was enough of a lead to to the deadline and as stated theres a big gap between that deadline and bert apparent application ,funnily this very day I suggested to a young un at work who's been humming an arring about renewing and had finally decided to go ahead that he rung up an say he'd been working away and missed deadline and could he have it at discounted price ,um guessing it asnt the original thought I imagined it to be

You were asking for a discount on the advertised price. Whether or not you think that price is worth it is obviously a matter for you but I can't see why you expect the club to charge you a different price to everyone else.

Bert was under the impression that Tesco's are one of the richest, most successful businesses in Britain or Europe for that matter......er yes just like United.

Bert's Guide to Basic Logic

If entity A is like entity B in respect of quality C, it does not follow that A is like B in respect of quality D

Hence:

SUFC is like Tesco in that it is a resonably sized company that sells its products on the basis of set prices and is not open to negotiate the said prices because the costs of doing so would outweigh the benefits. It does not follow from this that SUFC is like Tesco in being a very successful company.

Glad to be of help.

They probably made more than £1100 during the discount period by reiterating the discount WON'T be available after deadline day I'm sure it worked on swaying a few of the fans who were undecided.

Unlucky Bert

You have never been in business have you?

I have actually and negotiate costs/fees all the time.

Given the sort of business SUFC is, it would not be cost effective for them to negotiate individual prices with each of their customers.

Ooh, it's just like the old days on BU, Darren's turned a simple post into the debating chamber at the Oxford Union.

Is your afternoon on here being charged out to just one client, or spread across several?

All I can say Bert is if it were my business you'd be poorer .................. an i'd be richer ! :shark:

Great!

I now get the chance to boast that my daughter is a fully paid up member of the Oxford Union (paid by me I should add). It runs in the family....

I'm actually charging this time to that case of yours I am doing involving the goat and the tub of marge...

Only mugs pay sticker price for higher value items. Always look for a decent furniture store to knock at least 10% off the price same goes for watches. Why should United be any different to Heals?

Ah but most unlike the good old days, Bert is posting during works hours! Has he turned into a workshy, layabout student or is he waiting for Raymondo to finish oiling himself up? ;)

Personally, I'm intrigued by the sub-plot of the two other people who won't be getting season tickets this season. Will they be furious at Bert's apparent failure to plan ahead or will "H the enforcer" be paying a visit to the Box Office with his cattle prod?

Interesting point. I suppose it depends what sort of person you are. I think a lot of people (me included), would find it pretty to draining to be always looking to save a few quid on every purchase. Other people obviously thrive on it. The latter tend to be rich :-)

Bert is now retired, he has spent a lifetime grafting and now he is a gentleman of leisure.

The other two are Bert Jnr and H (The Enforcer). When Bert rang H today to tell him about the club's response his answer was "Well they can bollocks"

The one that springs to mind for me, is a guy down Leicester way, he never stops asking, more front than Woolworths as they use to say.

Drives a Sport Range Rover, company name embossed in the leather headrests, never misses a chance to shave points off the price, never ....

Maybe you can tell me otherwise, but wouldn't there be logistical difficulties with negotiating individual prices with 10-15,000 people every spring?

It is a matter of always trying to come out on top and never over paying. Bert has thrived on it for years. It's what pays for his snifters in his Gentleman's Club
