Obviously I'd prefer the high earners off the wage bill first, but if Fulham/whoever come in with a serious bid then it will have to be considered just like any other bid for a player.
I would say the majority of his impact last season comes from him being able to do the basics which so many senior players seemed unable to do. His movement is good and he will try and lay a ball off to what is usually the best option, but he lacks the pace to trouble most defences. He doesn't seem to be overly strong in the air either. He does seem to be in the right place when the ball drops in and around the area, but the same should be said of any body who considers themselves a forward.
So I would agree with the "promising" tag but he doesn't fall into the "talented" category that Jags and the Kyles were. Without the rose-tinted glasses on I would also have to say that he's not the saviour the fans believe him to be. Slew isn't strong enough to play every game and if he is only named on the bench or not named at all then should a result not go our way then DW gets it in the neck. We need a very strong first 11 who we should be looking at playing every game possible and unfortunately Slew in our current squad could quite easily become a poison challace because he isn't capable enough for the demands of a full season. For these reasons I can see his sale being seriously considered by any manager, but DW will be judged that bit harder on his sale. The right players would have to be brought in pretty sharpish with the proceeds.
Don't get me wrong, I would want to keep him under our current circumstances - but he is no Rooney or similar young startlet. He wouldn't be im my starting 11 if DW is allowed to trade and in moving out the big earners can recruit some hungry players. Slew might be a good bench player this season, but I'd say a player with a handful of senior seasons should score twice as many goals than one who still seems very raw. The other question is, would he be happy with a less advanced role if a PL club has been sniffing around?
