Wonder how much it cost us?

I asked if we lost out on sales because its been implied that it was a bad campaign (by many on here), so that would assume that we'd have lost Season Ticket sales because of it, because its obviously beyond the realms of possibility that we could've actually increased potential sales because of this.

As for the majority of Season Ticket Sales being made without this campaign, some yes, but not the majority, because you forget that the marketing is also distributing the price lists etc and getting the printing done. So most people would need reminding of these things before committing to £300+ expenditure

I've just re-read this and it gets worse Swiss.

'Not the majority'. You are therefore saying that less than 5,000 would have bought season tickets had it not been for the Front campaign?

i was on about trevor birch actually.. front can front off.

Like it, totally agree - to be fair to Birch he did actually turn up to work in Sheffield - didn't he?

i'm totally with you on this one mic.. what a totally pointless exercise.. anyone who was going to renew was going to renew.. i can't believe for a second this kind of thing is applicable to this area of commerce.. it is based on loyalty.. loyalty that is being tested to the absolute limit..

As a guy who receives literature, I can tell you that such bollocks would have found it's way straight into the re-cycle bin.

Effing hell, he's turned into E.T Fairfax.

I'm almost lost for words that a sensible but misguided gentleman (that's a joke) like Swiss, thinks that people who are interested in SUFC to the extent of owning a season ticket or who watch them a number of times would (in the abscence of a costly marketing brochure or even a simple letter) simply forget to look into buying a season ticket for the following term. It's just beyond all rational understanding.

I think the fundamental problem was that the marketing people were given nothing to work with and came up with some bollocks.

If we'd done something different like Derby or Bradford for example then they'd have had something to shout about and it would have bene important to get that message out to old and new fans alike as it would have made a difference.

Instead United decided to they'd rather keep prices up and lose a few thousand more ST holders to add to the 5 or 6,000 they lost last year. The marketing firm were up against it from the off - and it was United who appointed them and okayed their ideas.

I don't think relegation had a major impact on sales (the club needed to do something to stem the loss of fans even if we'd stayed up) but I do think cost does. I know people who have not renewed because they've had enough and I know of one who was undecided till the True Blade stuff and that was the final straw for him. They'd have all made the same decisions if we'd stayed up or not.

Something radical should have been done but instead as United always do at crunch moments - we bottled it.

The remarkable thing is that fans are happy we've got 10,000 ST holders - what other business would be happy with losing half of its most loyal customers in a year when it could see it ocming and it could have at least tried to do something about it.

Fair comments Tunsy.

Must say I don't think the club should be bending over backwards to accommodate the likes of you with sensational offers when other fork out £409 in April every year. I believe you've turned your back for reasons other than the price but I do agree that it would have been brilliant to see the result if they'd gone for £200 on Kop and £275 elsewhere for example. We'll never know but deep down I understand why they haven't.

What I don't understand is the need for a marketing campaign when they haven't done owt different (as you rightly say) - it's hilarious that this Front are making out that we would have sold nil without their input and the comments from Steve Lewis about our brand being engaging and entertaining is beyond any sensible comment.

Mic, My recollection of the "True Blades Campaign" was that it ran until the deadline date (15th April I think) and like I said the slogan was just a small part of the campaign

10,000 season tickets were sold during this campaign so it was an obvious success because the level of sales surprised even you.

How did people get the details of the Season Ticket pricing and deals - through the "True Blades Campaign"

We disagree here because your post suggests to me that you genuinely believe we were in effect starting from nil - that people got their brochure and thought 'oh wow, I've got to get a season ticket now'. I don't think football clubs - certainly at our level need owt like that and this talk of brands from Lewis is another demonstration how far removed the club are from us the fans in terms of what is important.

Me personally, I walked into the ticket office and broke out into a cold sweat as I got my card out and second later departed £409 lighter. Believe me the campaign had nowt to do with it. As I've tried to stress - football clubs imo don't need a 'campaign' - just a simple reminder at most. Instead we went beyond a simple reminder costing peanuts but went for a ridiculous slogan which I believe had zero or negative impact on sales. Yes we sold more than I thought because I think the statement about no offers worked fair play (I agree with that and have said so repeatedly) - I sincerely hope we didn't pay anyone to come up with that offer. Otherwise what are we paying Birch/Lewis for?

Irrespective of my waffle - my original point is that we have paid for someone to come up with the 'True Blades at The Lane' slogan and I think it was a) a total waste of money and b) disgusted alot of fans.

No Mic, as usual I'm arguing for the sake of it with you :)

I do think that the True Blades CAMPAIGN worked though because it was packaged very well. The only thing that could've been done better is an imediate reduction in price, but with inflation on the up, a price freeze effectively takes care of this next season.

Regarding the slogan of "True Blades are at the lane", yeah it could've been better, but I think fans would've whinged at the club regardless of whether it was this or if it was "We're shit and skint, but we could really do with your money".

Did we lose any fans because they felt insulted? Doubtful. But if we did, then they're not True Blades are they, because they won't be at the lane and that, after all is where TRUE Blades will be next year....

What a load of horse shit.

Bearing in mind I'll be living around 5000 miles away, let's just say I could struggle to get to the odd midweek fixture, although I'm sure that even from that distance I'll still hear your seal like clapping

That's rubbish! I made it to the Lane this year and it was an evening, midweek game too!

Did anyone buy a season ticket based solely on the "True Blades" marketing campaign? I didn't. I bought one because I support United, I can afford it and don't work on matchdays. It's that simple. I renewed well before the deadline, but I would have been heartily fucked off if lapsed season ticket holders were offered a better deal than people renewing. Offering lapsed holders the same prices as renewers would be bad enough. If you are a lapsed season ticket holder for whatever reason then you should pay the same price as someone who buys their first season ticket. Otherwise what's the incentive to renew early?

I'm bored with you now, even more bored than usual so time for me to move on.

Laters :clap::croc::clap:

:badger:

i think this true blade bollocks has upset a lot of people actually.. it certainly pissed me off.. as a blade of 40 years standing i don't need some prick in london to decide whether i am a fan or not thank you very much

Front are headed up by a Blade accoring to Mic's Link

Can you offer evidence that we would have sold 10000 season tickets next year. As a guy who sends out literature I can promise you that the campaign would have gained more than it would have lost. The True Blade got people talking, whether in a good or bad way. Certainly good marketing under our current climate.

Any publicity is good when a celeb perhaps but it doesn't really work for a football club.

It had most saying this is a shite campaign and I wont be buying a season ticket.

Swiss, we clarified all this yesterday but cheers for the half century with all your efforts on here, much appreciated.

You can't expect me to read all the posts on here!

Anyway you're more than welcome

Ps did you find out how much it cost? Its a cracking slogan
