Taking your red and white shirt off if you were being interviewed for both the united and dingles job which would you go with. Barnsley are one of my tips for relegation next season along with donny so would you go with a team trying to get back into the championship or a team fighting to stay in it????

Knowing how managers think, then Barnsley would be where most managers go, you get more recognition as a manager the higher up you are.

I don't doubt that the dingles will be relegated, but we are much more of a challenge.

Lets hope that we don't attempt to go for the same manager or worse still get a Piggy/ Dingle reject instead.... oh it may be too late!

Us - bigger club, more fans, better ground, more potential.
Them - higher Division - but possibly for one season only

I think most managers would go for us - unless they have a liking for 6 fingered inbreds, obviously....

Presumably a bigger salary at Baaaaarnsley due to their championship status. Also possibly equal on wage budgets?

Barnsley = 10000 for home games. We = 30000 for an FAYC Final, plus 15-17000 next year.

It depends what sort of a manager you are. We have far more potential however they are in a league above. I am sure dingles will be on their messageboards using their new dial up service discussing how they are a bigger attraction than us.

Barnsley I would have thought but purely because no manager in their right mind would underestimate how hard it is for anyone to get out league 1 sharpish.

No brainer - the Blades job is far more attractive.

We have more fans, a bigger and better ground, more history, a better infrastructure and a better academy. We're just a bigger club with far more potential and that is not a biased view.....even if it was it doesnt mean that it isnt a fact.

Being in a higher division is literally the only thing they have over us and I wouldnt swap what we have for what they have. The fact that we're closing in on a manager and they're struggling to find one should tell you everything you need to know.

Totally agree with SCB.

Firstly SUFC have vastly more potential than Barnsley.

Secondly, Barnsley being in a higher division is actually a bit of a double-edged sword in that Barnsley = a grim fight to avoid a relegation besmirching your CV, SUFC = an excellent chance of a quick-fire promotion (which always looks good on your record).

We better than Chelsea too then??

why move to barnsley when you can be a demi god at bramall lane?.. :D it really is a no brainer third division or not

I totally agree with what you say but as a manager do you look at how many managers we have gone through in the last couple of years and think i'd like somewhere that might give me a bit of time.???

Yes of course we are! We're the mighty red n' white wizards! :D (ok now I am being biased).

But seriously I couldn't possibly imagine why anyone would consider the Barnsley job more prestigious than ours. That opinion must be entirely based on league position, ignoring anything else. Having said that, the Barnsley job is a good number for say an up and coming or young manager in the lower leagues.....say a Hill or Tisdale for example. Its just not as high profile as the Blades or piggy job is and it never will be.

BH makes a good point on top of all that. Manage a big club aiming for promotion and with long term aspirations of being promoted twice or manage a smaller club one division higher with long term aspirations of maintaining its Championship status. I know which one I would choose.

That is a very wise and valid argument dp. Certainly something some managers would consider (SO'D spoke of this when linked with us). The only thing I would say about that though, is that when you take on a club with high expectations (i.e. a big club like United or W*******y) you take on the risk knowing that you are expected to get results fairly quickly. By taking a lower profile job could you be accused of lacking ambition???? The bigger the club the more pressure you will be under.....but the higher the rewards as well!

Which is why you can probably exopect whoever it is to come in on a 5 year contract or something daft like that...

Simple

Based on a managers shelf being 10 months the biggest salary!!

Odds are stacked against seeing either "a team trying to get back into the championship or a team fighting to stay in it".

The posts in this thread are exactly like what Wednesday fans come out with when comparing them and us.
