Not Matteo or Hughton

Firstly, we ain't going to get a new manager until the squad is reduced i.e expired contracts, players with high saleries, potential fee are sold on etc, leaving them with a bar squad which will need building.

Secondly, i am worried by some of the suggestions fans are coming up with. Do you really want Ince, Robbins etc who have done nothing? It annoys me as much when people say "he could do a job for us" when posting a player name.

More importantly , United should be looking at managers who are in a successful team in the lower leagues i.e league 1 and 2. We are a big club and no ambitious manager would turn us down. The chance of managing a big club should be enough for them to join us. Other clubs do it, so why not united

How about Walter Smith with Pembo as understudy. Good with youngsters, proven winner might like a chance to do it in England and build something.

C'mon McCabe give it a thought.

So to conclude, unless we get Mateo or Hughton then a sizeable contingent will be on the manager's back from day one. Same old same old.

Surely greater expectation would be placed on the shoulders of the big money manager - he'd be expected to deliver promotion straight away.

If any of the others fail we can carry on blaming McCabe.

Then consider Ian Holloway - if he'd got the job here at the time Blackpool made him manager, I suspect most on here, (including me) would have been saying what a disgraceful, penny pinching decision we'd made.

Says in the Star this morning that Matteos wage demands are too high and unless he lowers his wage demands hes putting himself out of contention for the job

I think any manager who is interested in the post, who is interested in his career and success, (as opposed to lining his pockets) who watched last nights game will be chomping at the bit to get involved.

Last night was not just a great advert for our fantastic youth side it was a great advert for the potential of the club over the next few years both player wise and supporter wise. We get the right man in, hold onto the right players and last night could be every other week-end at BDTBL.

We have a BRILLIANT opportunity to re-build this club, it's all down to McCabe now to make sure we dont fuck it up again.

Spot on Torrix

Right man in,keep hold of the right players whats the chances of that happening ?

Sorry to sound negative but our boards never been one for making the right decision

This is why I still think S'OD could be tempted. Without knowing the full reasons why he didn't take over in January, there'd be a lot less pressure on him now than there would have been 5 months ago.

Sadly Fleets, I personally don't see him as being involved in the selection process.

I get the sense that we have a handful in mind at the moment, and if SoD was one of them, then John Ryan would have been all over the place saying he's going to cost us Jordan Slew and a weekly 5 minute slot at half time.

Quite possibly, I just get the feeling an appointment is going to come straight out of the blue this time. Again, S'OD ticks all the boxes.

I think it could as well, the longer it goes on. I agree about S'OD, he would be a better appointment now than he would have been five months ago IMO. Now is the time to bring in someone like that and outside of RDM and Hughton, he's the best man to take control IMO (as long as he's happy to work with Pembo). Outside of the three I mentioned Pembo would be the next on my list. After that the rest are shrugworthy. Robins would be ok I suppose.

Following McCabe's comments last week, if we go for a Peter Reid merry-go-round type, it really would be the final nail for a lot of fans. Last night will have re-ignited the flame for many and McCabe has the chance to follow it up with the right appointment. It sounds obvious but he has to avoid appointing the wrong type of manager IMO, many will give the likes of Pembo, Wilder, Hill etc a chance but would be dead against the likies of Reid, Wilson etc

I would be happy to give an aspiring lower league manager a chance but as you say, managers like Reid and Wilson have been there before and we know what they're about. They're not going to bring anything new or inventive to the table.....they're very much old school managers who have been successful in their own right (much like MA) but we need to think outside the norm now. Its very important we do something original IMO.

If it has to be someone unproven at a big club, I would opt for Keith Hill. He would be the only one I would be prepared to take that gamble on. He seems to have something about him and Rochdale play some decent stuff.

Er, Paul Ince (very very very poor record since then)

After winning just three games in 17, Ince was sacked on 16 December 2008 after just six months in charge.[20] Ince had been with Blackburn only 177 days, one of the shortest reigns of a Premier League manager.[21] Blackburn fans had been demanding his removal following a 5–3 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup on 3 December 2008. At the game, the crowd could be heard chanting "You don't know what you're doing" and "We want Incey out" as well as singing the name of their former manager Graeme Souness.[22]

Ince cited his failure at Blackburn Rovers as being due to a lack of financial backing, conditions that were known to Ince at the time of signing for the club.[citation needed] Ince did, however, spend over £10 million on Paul Robinson, Vince Grella and Keith Andrews regardless of these restrictions.[23]

Milton Keynes Dons (2009–10)

On 3 July 2009, Ince signed again for Milton Keynes Dons on a two-year deal.[24][25] However on 16 April 2010, he announced that he would leave the job a year early, at the end of the 2009–10 season.[26]

Notts County

Ince returned to management on 28 October 2010, signing a three year deal with Notts County.[27] On April 3rd 2011 he left the club by mutual consent after losing 5 games in a row.

Ince knows his stuff tbh. Certainly doesn't chat too much balls.

I've heard (from a reliable source) that McCabe will be holding interviews in Brussels next Wednesday. So hopefully all will be clear by the end of next week. He definately wasn't at the game last night he's busy in Australia.

Agree in part. But my post was a response to your quote that he had "done nothing".

I've said previously, the Blackburn job was a step too far.

And regards the 2nd spell at MK Dons - Paul Ince resigned as Manager on April 16, 2010, stating "a reduction in funds for next season was the reason behind his decision to leave", although he remained with the club until the end of the 2009/10 season.

He also got County playing good football at one stage (took Man City to a replay in the 4th round of the Cup), before he resigned after the 5 game losing streak.

If we have a lot of kids with us next year, i'd like to think that they would look up at him as an inspirational figure. He was a great player in his day (though I accept that doesn't = good manager).

He would also come at a cheaper price than the like of Hughton, RDM et al.

Who would you have?
