Apart from the usual crop of failures ( dowie, southgate etc ) who are out of work how many managers currently with another club will want the job at the lane? Recent history would suggest the post is about as safe being a sibling of gadaffi. If you were plodding along nicely at a league 1 or 2 club would you risk it all to manage a club going backwards very quickly with a fickle fan base?

Many managers will fear the sack like they'd fear a night in bed with Kelly Brook and a pot of yoghurt.

6 months work for 3 years pay?

And after several years of utter dross, well over 10,000 "fickle" fans committed to support the team for another year, before the last pathetic one was even over.

There's plenty who'll come to us.

Amen to that alco, were without doubt one of the biggest clubs outside the top 2 leagues, about to go through a rebuilding process and about to introduce a new batch of youngsters, they will have decent league one wage bill (when we get rid of the high earners, and they will go). some managers will look on it as a dream. i bet weve had applicants already.

If we get Dowie I'm going to dip my John Thomas in Mic's celebratory pint

fuck me, i seem to remember another "MASSIVE" club spouting this same bollocks, and where are they now, oh yeh exactly where we are.
until we get someone in at owner/board level that isnt in it just to sell players and use blades money to fund his game of "monopoly" .
A dream job, id bet blackie, speed, carver would all have thought that, we know micky did, and what did that dream get them, fucked over and hung to dry with no help, no loyalty, no thought before blaming them for all our ills.
mccabe is the problem and until he leaves we are fucked, proper fucked.

Think of the 6 crappiest unemployed managers out there and you have successfully chosen the shortlist for the managers job at BDTBL

i take your glass is half empty.

we are a big club for league 1, much like wednesday - good fan base, good stadium, good youth academy, track record of producing premiership standard players, we were in the prem recently, have played in several play off finals, league cup and fa cup semis in recent times and have had some good players in years gone by. your in denial if we think were not, and we need to have that attitude to attract the best players we can. mc cabe is going nowhere, get over it.

Russell Slade is being strongly linked, and you can see him wanting it. You can also understand the reasons why McCabe might want him:

- knows him from his time at United
- knows the league, and has done well recently with sod all at Orient
- cheap

He will presumably recall that under his tenure as youth team boss here Lee Morris broke into the 1st team, and Jags, Monty and Tongey all developed prior to breaking through after he left. All prior to us building the Academy too.

Have a look at Southampton.

Took a manager from an overachieving Championship club, and he took them from a relegation place to automatic promotion.

and where has all that got us?
why i do believe its got us to the dizzy heights of league 1, we WERE a big club, now we are a club in major decline and if YOU think we are still a big club then its you my friend that is in denial.
the big clubs are in the premiership, outside that they are by no standard big clubs, look at leeds under 15 years ago they were challenging for champions league, winning cups etc, now they are, even tho they have a huge fan base, big ground etc still a lower league club.
big clubs win trophys, when was last trophy won at the lane?
mccabe said european footy in now forgive me if im wrong but johnstone paint trophy doesnt carry a place in europe.
until we are back in the premiership, we are no longer a BIG club, just another team living in the past.

So by your definition blackpool and wigan are bigger clubs than leeds, even us and the pigs? I have to disagree. Being a big club isnt just about the league your in and the amount you can pay out on wages - its about a large amount of different things, stadium, academy, good fan base, good away following, high home attendance, high shirt sales, european/global awareness.

players, managers, wage bills, chairmen come and go, and i suppose to a certain extent so do the levels in fanbase, but we and wednesday are 1st and 2nd favourites for a reason, we have the highest appeal to players of this level, and players who may need to drop down a level to get back in the shop window.

mccabe has said alot of things, european football, not too many loans, etc etc. but as i said before, unless some one coughs up some serious brass he aint going anywhere.

Spot on Brownie. I mentioned this in another thread that I wish we could have got Adkins who has done a fantastic job at Scunthorpe & Southampton. Slade could be a good shout, not one that would fill me with confidence but an appointment I can see happening, he seems to have done some solid jobs at a few lower league sides.
