Bloody hell have been linked to anyone under 30 yet?

Thought the same when I read the article. Laughed to myself and then cried.

A trend does seem to be appearing and it’s not a great one imo. Luckily 90% of it will just be press talk at this point of the summer
I think numerous 'journalists' are struggling to file any reports as Slav doesn't start until 1st July,, going to be more of these non stories until then, started with the idea he would raid Fulham, then a frantic search for anyone that might be available that are ex Watford players, now this,,its going to be a long few weeks!

Wouldn’t surprise me if we pick up a couple before July but yeah what you’ve said coupled with the fact that the club doesn’t do leaks anymore will result in a summer full or random speculation from journo’s. Surprised no ones doing stories around the back room staff as there probably is a story there as you’d imagine we’re in negotiations.

It's odd that speculation re the back room staff, seems to have stopped as soon as it was announced the deal included Slav bringing in his own staff, presumably the lazy journos think that means his staff he had at Fulham.
Agree re some new faces coming in before July, suspect Slav had a few on his radar, plus the agents/contacts that will have been in touch since he got the job

Yeah it’s odd as I’d expect that to be the next business the club does and from the point of the journalists it’s the ongoing story right now. Yeah I’d expect Slav to have some players in mind plus there’s been a few stories in the last few weeks talking about the work Mitchell is doing plus an expanded united world scouting network so I’d imagine the recruitment staff are hard at work as well regardless of where Slav currently is.

I wonder how or if Paul Mitchell's role has changed, might be more of a challenge if the nets cast wider, think most people were or are expecting him to follow CW, as and when he gets a new job

Hope we don't finish up with 'dad's army' squad seems more and more speculation involves players over 30!

He can play off the left if we’re playing wingers. It’s not a crazy shout.

Not quite himself at Villa though yeah, he was class for Bristol City. But still a 1 in 3 record isn’t bad.

Tbf we did sign alot of younger players in the last few windows..
Plus we could be integrating lads like Jebbison, Seriki, etc.

I don’t want to be going through the “last pay day brigade”, but a couple of quality experienced “been there, done that” types would be great.

Obviously Im thinking more along the lines of Speed, Cowans, McGrath and McCall than Hammond, Rush or James Beattie mark 2.

I think any links with any forwards are going to be bullshit.

The Prince is switched on and knows we already have 7 strikers. You saw in his interview he was questioning why Wilder wanted a DM when we already had Berge, Norwood and Ampadu. He's not daft. I'd imagine part of the conversation with SJ will have been how he can maximise the players we have. With £50m+ tied up in Brewster, McBurnie, Mousset - and Sharp, Jebison, Hackford, Burke too - we've no room.

With our limited budget this Summer: midfield and CB are the only areas he'll sanction spending proper money on.

There is a slightly worrying trend with the rumours with them all being over 30 so far.

Sam Clucas could be a decent free however. Tom Cairney is a good player but don't wanna spend 10m on a 30 yr old who is mainly championship player.

Been alot of talk about using the loan market, which could be wise. 2 from the PL perhaps and even 1 from abroad?

Coulibaly could come into the fold potentially and then we have the youngsters who may stand a better chance of getting in the team in the Champ.

Overall though the squad isn't an old one, but we do have some players over 30 in McGoldrick, Norwood, Sharp, Stevens.
Rest are all under 30, which was always part of Wilders strategy. He would sign the odd experienced recruit but most young with hopefully resale value.

I have concern that our new manager expects Norwood to be the same player that he was when he had him at Fulham and was initially signed by Wilder. Last season his form fell of a cliff, partially due to the quality of the opposition but also due to his lack of mobility and general awareness and speed of thought.
Hopefully we sign someone who can dictate from midfield.

32 later this year, not so sure he's going to be better than what we have. Still think next season McBurnie's going to be our main forward. Yes I have a McBurnie mug, he's someone I rate highly and I'll generally always defend the man, but his record at this level is impressive, and see no reason playing for Slav that he can't recapture that form.

Christ alive - the doom & gloom merchants are out in force!

The manager hasn't officially started in-post yet (although I'm sure he's already heavily involved in activities); most players' contract don't expire for another few weeks and already people are having a moan - current player X is no good, HRH is skint, there's no money to spend, only old players are being targeted, so & so will be sold cheap etc. etc.

Give SJ and the club a chance. After all, he wouldn't have joined had he not been assured of budget/ambition and Utd wouldn't have recruited him if he hadn't impressed with his knowledge and plans for the club. He may well have different ideas to CW, which in some cases is likely to be no bad thing.

I, for one, am really looking forward to the season. SJ is renowned for playing attacking, attractive football and will a few tweaks to the squad, I'm confident it will be well placed to challenge next season.

“There’s a worrying trend of us being linked with players over 30” is my favourite take of the window so far. Brilliant. These are rumours cobbled together by blokes sat in their mums box rooms with no contacts whatsoever and some of our fans are genuinely worried. Hilarious.
