I thought he was very average for the first couple of those and regularly wondered how someone with fairly basic ability managed to land on his feet. Since Wilder came in he got better and better though and is now firmly one of my favourites (there aren’t many admittedly!)

Here’s to another year or two of him proving me wrong 🙂
 
One of my all-time favourite players. Absolutely staggering how he went from "not all that good" in League 1 to "Mr Dependable" in the premier league in such a short space of time. Leaves everything out on the pitch every game, not afraid of a tackle, and has shown some outstanding moments of skill at times as well (even if he does occasionally resemble Bambi on ice!)

Hope he spends the rest of his career with us. Top, top Blade.
 
Legend is a strong word to throw about but Bash has to be at least close to that category.

Part of the Adkins team we all hated and like others have said, deemed not good enough for League One.

Few years later, a big part of two promotions, scored a season-defining goal at Leeds, voted Player of the Year as we finished 9th in the Premier League.

Barely missed a game in the process and a trailblazer of the ‘overlapping centre-back’.

Not bad for a free transfer.

Very good player. Along with McG, was one of the only good players last season


Its a shame that he's likely joining Wilder at West Brom.

Let's face it, he was crap when he came in. Was played in midfield and couldnt trap a bag of sand. Full credit to him though, the improvement following being moved back was immeasurable.

No chance, wilder got to get a job first and I can’t see bash going to Div1. Bash the blade ⚔️

Agreed, if he isn't a legend then what makes a legend? Stayed with the club through the tough times and achieved two promotions including the PL.

Only decent signing Clough made.
 
The hairs on the back of my neck still stand up when I hear "Basham's Arriving!", what a time to score!

Great player for us and seems to be an all round nice lad as well.
 



Someone managed to snatch a bit of Bob Booker’s DNA before he left, and saved it for the right player, which turned out to be Mr Basham.

Both started out awfully, out of their depth and looked likely to last only a few games. However, both had the guts to battle on, never ever hid away and slowly but surely started to bring something special that no other player can add. Both played key roles in 1-0 away wins at crucial points in the season. Booker’s was the short-sleeves-in-the-snow-and-show-what-you’re-made-of performance at Mansfield. He won the penalty that Duffield converted. Lord knows how the ref knew it was in the area, because the snow was a foot deep all over the pitch. We all know Basham’s tackled goal at Leeds where, to be fair, he’d played dreadfully in midfield, yet never hid away.

Cracking characters, both of them. Bash has more natural ability than both, but both were the big hearted battlers that define the Sheffield United teams that connect best with the fans. They’ll both live very long in the memory (sorry, “memry”).
 
Feel like I need to disassociate myself from peeps saying “he was shit at first”, or “we didn’t like him early doors”.

Probably one of the worst midfielders I've ever seen in a 4-4-2. Pretty good in a midfield three and outstanding at RCB.
 
Every game he give 89.5 minutes of professional, solid work - then once, only ever once a match he does something ridiculous with the ball.

I love that after 7 years and 300 odd games, he still surprises us, and I can’t think of anyone quite like him.
