Bettis is there to negotiate contracts both footballing and commercial he isn’t the head of the football club and doesn’t make final decisions he also isn’t the clubs fan engagement officer. He’s done the updates so far because he’s the most senior board member in the country and so is available to do interviews. To my knowledge the only contract he hasn’t gotten over the line recently in the Lundstram one so for me he’s not done anything to vaguely approach meriting dismissal

What is it you want to hear from him? That we’re continuing to talk to the candidates and hopefully will have something to announce shortly? That wouldn’t do anything and those moaning would still expect everything done yesterday. They’re idiots so I wouldn’t look to pacify them at all. As I’ve said over and over there’s no advantage to telling the fans where we’re up until we’re ready to announce. There’s nothing to tell.

Agreed but that’s not what’s been said about bettis when he came in or since. A lot was made when he came in that wilder requested him as a conduit between himself and ownership. Also wilder spoke about him many times as the man to whom transfers were handed over once a target had been identified bettis then agreed the fee and negotiated personal terms. Bettis himself also spoke at length last summer about lessons he and the club had learned regarding clauses in contracts inserting buy backs and such like. In addition to this it seems he was responsible for negotiating the details of wilders severance package. All of that combined contributes to painting a picture of bettis less like a traditional CEO and more like uniteds chief negotiator handling contracts. A more accurate description of his role might ironically be director of football but without the responsibility for identifying playing or managerial targets which was still the responsibility of the manager and recruitment team working on his behest. Or the board and ownership as whole in terms of managers especially in light of the prince having plenty to say about the retention of wilder and managerial recruitment in general so he’s certainly hands on.

I like Bettis. From what I've heard about him I think he does a good job for Utd.

Nothing wrong with the club taking their time to get this appointment right. Im sure it will all be sorted very shortly and it will be probably be about 95% sorted for the man who is to take the hot seat. All parties will now know what is on offer and what needs to be done to conclude the matter. Hopefully just a case of dotting the I's and crossing the T's.

Some of our fans have very active imaginations.

I have beef with the slight lack of communication but the board have done little wrong so far. In fact it's been handled well so far looking back, but all it needed was one of em to say it's likely Hecky until end of season whilst we work on getting the right man to make it feel that way from the outset.

There is no evidence that the club is rudderless, far from it.
If a quick decision had been taken on a manager it would probably have been wrong.
This is, hopefully, a three year plus appointment so taking time to get it right is fine.
If there is no appointment by mid June then there may well be constructive criticism to level.

Well now Slavisa has been appointed we might start to see more fan engagement plus its put to bed the biggest outstanding issue at the club so we don't need to hear from the powers thst be so much

Yeah I agree that’s it now we have a direction now as a club so the cogs should start to to click into motion. It’ll be interesting to see a new gaffer out their stamp on the club.
