imho , once my lifelong emotional engagement with the Blades (since to he 1960s) has finally been blasted of me by the club continually reminding me that I (and the rest of the Shoreham Boys) are not important to it , why should I not treat my consumption of football as just another purchase in the marketplace ?
And since I've lived in the Manchester area since 1983 , that purchasing decision would be to give up my Lane ST + buy a better product at OT or the Etihad or indeed both.
The soul of football has been steadily eaten away over my lifetime , but in clinging to its remains , I am unable to relinquish my pride in my SUFC and the pain & embarrassment I feel when it blunders or fails to get a grip of a situation.

Sadness, Bewilderment, Embarrassment, Humiliation and Gut wrenching disappointment are all the negative feelings I’ve encountered as a Blade for the last 48years. But I’ve encountered the the worst feeling of all this season...Total and utter indifference. When you start not to give a flying fuck, about who we’re playing, how we’re playing and the actual result....You know the rot has set in.

You’re complaining that the soul of football has been steadily eaten away (something I don’t disagree with) but then suggest going to Old Trafford or the Etihad...

Maybe , maybe not.
But having followed this Club loyally for 53 years , only 7 of which I've lived in Sheffield and having held ST for most of my life , I am askance at the lack of engagement.
I certainly don't mind getting relegated - it's happened often enough and I'm philosophical enough to remember the joys of 81/82 after the shock of 80/81.
But the cumulative effect of the issues I mentioned has obviously affected most fans , otherwise the Burnley game would have sold out to folks with 40,000 points or so.
There are some fundamental questions being unanswered by the Club at the moment.
And HRH might be a good guy , but he is a businessman who is not intrinsically linked to Sheffield.
So I will always worry about his commitment , not necessarily in terms of finance (although he did get us on the cheap) but more in terms of how closely he pays attention to the Club.
Especially after this season in which certain situations were allowed to drift too far when set against the eyewatering £ involved in getting relegated or surviving.

The topic of club allegiance versus being a customer of entertainment is too large to address here - all I have done is express my disappointment & fears for the Club , and to be told I am effectively a snowflake is ridiculous - of course there is no question of me attending OT or the Etihad , but the more that SUFC behaves as a purveyor of an entertainment product instead of a "Club" with 20,000 interested members , the more the pendulum swings away from blind allegiance towards a feeling of being exploited. The lack of close questioning by the local journos doesn't help because we get left to swallow the Club rhetoric ("Lunny is a model professional") or ignore the information flow altogether.

You're forgetting one factor.

Many people with 40,000 points or more will be older people (like me), possibly with underlying health conditions (like me), who are still taking precautions not to get Covid (like me).

I desperately wanted to attend but I made the very difficult decision not to, even though the ticket price for me, and many others who would be eligible for tickets was £30 not £40.

I'm sure I wasn't alone in making that decision for those reasons.

I agree with this in principle (that was my reason for not going, too) but, if that was genuinely the reason for most fans, other clubs would have struggled to sell out too. As far as I know, everyone else’s tickets went straightaway.

To be honest. Football doesnt have fans anymore, we are all customers. Not one club treats their fans as fans! We are all cash cows. The problem with that product is you attract those who really dont care for the area or the tradition - ie plastics. Whilst SUFC might be moving towards this model, at least when I go the game it still feels like a local match. You cannot say the same at OT or the Etihad.

I’m in York now (it was Newcastle when I first signed up to SUFC forums in 1999!). Much easier for match days now!

I'm 59yo from donny and paid £40 for a ticket on kop, my lad paid same but had to leave for work after 65 mins. Prices were very expensive compared to season ticket prices but your either a blade or not. For God sake we've had over a year without going to a game get a grip blades weve seen worse football in division 3 not so long ago.
