Last time we had a disastrous season after missing out on Europe Ken Furphy took many Blades players to the wonders of the NASL (North American Soccer League).

This photo still makes me giggle to this day, Blades fans of yesteryear, just look at who is sat immediately to the right of the mighty Pele?!? 🤣

And yes, that's Italy's Giorgio Chinaglia to his right!

So we end the season with MooseFat , McB , poor old JoC & as few others nowhere near fit. And do the uninjured ones now hang around to meet the new manager or what ? We have 3,000 ardent souls attend hoping to see a new man introduced but their £40 gets them only silence. Surely it is unforgivable for the Club to just amble into the most crucial close-season in recent history without any kind of communication to players or fans - is there actually a properly constituted Board at the Lane or is it somewhere in Belgium or Arabia ? Feck knows what's happening so the question of my ST renewal can await some kind of plan being disclosed - no good buying it only to find that the Kop redevelopment is actually a demolition & replacement with as apartments , which may now be on the agenda based on a 3,000 gate for a PL match.
And to think that as one on here were advocating the construction of a 45,000 stadium in lockdown #1 , how I laughed !
Anyway , the Club have a week to convince me to buy an ST .... I hold no great hopes of hearing from them 😉

Any manager is going to be a gamble always has been, the question is, if its not SJ,,who seems to be the favourite among fans and pundits, the other names supposedly in the running, have either no experience in the championship (Phillipe Clement) or even if they are 'gifted' coaches are a little uninspiring (Appleton)
Pretty sure that Appleton would be a hard sell, and the club/board would get a lot of flack,, that coupled with whoever the next man is, he won't get anything like the patience that CW did, obviously earned with success over 4 years
Despite Heckys claims/comments, i can see the board viewing him as a safe pair of hands, likely to receive less flack than others, links the U23s to the first team, and if it doesn't go to plan, offers the board an easy 'out' as they thought it was the best way to promote youth and that's what the fans wanted to see,,
