It's not a philosophical game. This isn't discussion in the abstract. This is a 24 year old who assaulted someone because they shouted mean things at him. All I'm saying is that, yes, I do expect adults to control their violent impulses. You and others think that's too high a bar when it's the kind of thing we tell kids they should know better than.
Give it a rest fella

Give over ! Its ok to get abused in the street but you should just take it ? Again well done Ollie 👏 utb
So what do you suggest his employer does about an employee who has a recent conviction for drunk driving and then is found guilty of assault and damaging others property ( if indeed he is ) ?
I am happy to wait the outcome before I criticise him, but it puts the Club in a difficult position .
I understand your stance but his position brings different obligations and responsibilities to the average young man.

That might not be too far from the truth. If I’m Oli, that’s what I’d be saying even if it didn’t happen, just to lesson the charge if he did happen to be there and one occurred.

For those that know the street, is there any cameras on it?
Today's video answered your question. Ollie is standing underneath a security camera when the abuse started. If it was pointing in the right direction it would have also caught the first altercation.

Not at all. It's despicable. But as I said, now you're giving the schoolboy "But he was calling me names, miss!" excuse. It doesn't wash for kids so I don't know why it should for wealthy adults.

It’s hardly “schoolboy”, it’s probably quite deeply engrained in human nature if you’re being abused, verbally or otherwise, to lash out, sometimes physically.

It’s funny how whenever somebody is being racially abused, if they strike someone, they’re lauded as a hero, but get called a cunt and do the same thing and you’re just a thug who can’t control themselves.

I believe it was Jamie Vardy who said “chat shit, get banged”. Sounds fair to me. A reasonable man wouldn’t go shouting abuse at someone, unprovoked. Unreasonable actions deserve consequences. A thick lip or a black eye are quite fair punishment if you ask me.

Had McB stuck the boot in when this nob was on the floor, then it’s another matter, but he gave him a clip and told his mates to take him on his way. He showed great restraint to leave it at that.

I have changed my mind completely after watching that 2nd video , thick scum , with their mobile's , goading him , Yes he is a professional footballer and in a perfect world shouldn't have done it , but fuck it , they deserved it . 🤜

Anyone who’s been in a situation like that will obviously know it’s an understandable reaction if it was constant goading, a lot would wanna hit the cunt doing it. We all know doing so is against the law though, including McBurnie, unless he’s stupider than I even thought. I understand his annoyance and anger, and have absolutely no sympathy for the lowlife who antagonised him. But it’s still an idiotic thing to do, especially considering him being a bit of a public figure, he should know better. Our club’s turning into a fucking prime time ITV2 show.

Not much more I can say to that other than I disagree and I expect that when people behave this way that they're told to do better. I'm honestly surprised that more people don't expect more from an adult than to punch someone who shouts names at you from a distance.

I'll also say that some of the posters minimising what McBurnie did will be the first ones to call someone a snowflake for saying something's offensive. Simultaneously holding the view that you should grow up and not complain about words, but also if someone says it in your vicinity then assault is okay.

Just what I was thinking. This last year Sky,Talksport the BBC done loads on abuse. They are always saying people behind keyboards, nameless people, would they do this face to face?. Now someone has done it face to face and got a scutch we have people belly aching. Pound to a pinch of sxxt he's had lots of texts from his fellow pros. Only my opinion.

Not really interested in his personal life, but what I found interesting on the BBC site were photos of 2 blades who played last season. One talking about becoming Man Utd number 1 the other not about goals but instead fighting. Both take abuse and seem to handle it differently with different outcomes.

Clearly the knob goading McBurnie is a twat, few would argue with that.

Now I don't mix in circles with people in the public eye, but would assume that this kind of shit is pretty standard. For example Piers Morgan would have permanently raw knuckles if he responded like this to every altercation he must have to endure (not defending him as a person BTW), you don't see stories about him doing this. How many people on here would happily shout crap at Leeds or Pig players if they saw them on the street after a session in the pub?

Rightly or wrongly, attracting crap off knob heads goes with the territory if you are in the public eye. McBurnie is paid enough to turn the other cheek and laugh on the inside at pathetic no marks like this guy.

ITV 2 has a prime time 😱

I'm probably what CW would negatively describe as a do-gooder leftie. So I'd like to think I'd have brought this moron to tears with a cutting, yet witty, 15-20 word verbal take down...

But before I had a kid, and certainly age 24... I would have got into it with this goading prick. And that was even in the knowledge I was small, weak and likely to come off worse. Some people only understand one thing. And humans gonna be humans.

(Though probably not in broad daylight while being filmed... I'd be smarter than that to be fair)

He could have just walked away and ended up like Seb and Nina (if you know, then you know ;) )

Slightly different when youre getting harassed walking up the street though isnt it ?

Why does his head look photoshopped on the body. Look closely the body is really clear and sharp yet there is blurring round the head as though its been pasted on there and smoothed over. Just saying it still looks a bit suss. The background under his ears doesnt match the background of the buildings and there is a bit of dodgy blurring round the top of his head.

Compare the ones below the 2nd one is from the original twitter video

Looks like he's got blood coming from his nose

Wouldnt surprise me if that's why there's been a reaction

In what way? Would Hendo be in that position, more considering career path and on the pitch?

What? lamped some cretin who was following him around abusing him whilst he's out with his missus? Tell you what, I'll follow you round whilst you're out with your partner, goading you, and we'll see if you react the same/similar way..

Very easy to take the high and mighty approach until it happens in reality imo.

The truth it seems as always is in the middle ground here. The lad who record the video is clearly a full weight and committing a couple of offences including public drunkenness going off his voice. Mcburnie then commits an offence by retaliating physically and rising to the bait. Whether people think he’s done right or wrong will come down to the individuals moral compass but mcburnie will likely pay a fine and the lad involved will milk it for all it’s worth.
