We can officially be relegated this weekend. If we lose we can only match Newcastle's current points tally of 32 which means with GD, a defeat at Wolves puts us down.

In the top 4 divisions, we are the ONLY team that can be relegated this weekend and we've got more remaining games than any of those in the EFL divisions.

Newcastle play West Ham in the lunchtime game. If West Ham win, a draw for us or better takes us to next weekend.

It's actually been a pathetic season hasn't it

I'd actually take it. Puts us out of our misery, and allows for the appointment of a manager who then won't have the relegation on his CV.

Newcastle's remaining games are:

West Ham
Liverpool
Arsenal
Leicester
Man City
Blades
Fulham

They could be in deep shit, TBH. Shame it won't be us that can catch them

The most soul destroying, depressing, and humiliating season ever for me. Every week it feels like torture. I don't think even the official confirmation of relegation will ease that, either.
The only thing the club can do to brighten the end of the season now is appoint a new manager that we can all get behind and play some of the young talent we have in every game to give them, and us, some hope for the future of our club.

Aaaand it's 3-5-2 with Lundstram every week.

And we can start introducing youngsters without them bearing any responsibility for relegation.

Still won’t happen I bet. Heckingbottom seems shit scared to change owt.

Times like these call for something a bit special. Let's send out a clear message to Wolves right from the off!!!

Take that you horrible West Midlanders!!

The Athletic did an article on whether it is a crumb of comfort to avoid the joint record for earliest relegation in the Premier League era earlier this week. Defeat for United and a point for Newcastle will confirm it.

Earliest Premier League relegations
CLUBSEASONGAMES TO PLAYDATE CONFIRMED
Derby County2007-086March 29
Huddersfield Town2018-196March 30
Ipswich Town*1994-956April 14
Fulham2018-195April 2
Portsmouth2009-105April 10
Sunderland2002-035April 12
Sunderland2005-065April 14
* 42-game season

and my comment on the article was:

To be honest, in the context of this truly awful season a confirmed (R) can't come soon enough. Neither can getting the next 7 games out of the way. If we could forfeit them somehow I would. The only record I was keen on avoiding was Derby's lowest points one and we've somehow managed that. All about looking to next season now and at least mathematically being confirmed for the Championship is the first step.

Chris Wilder is the only manager getting this relegation anywhere near their CV. Egginsbottoms will just have ‘U23’s coach reluctantly moved to 1st team manager as punishment for sins in a past life’ on his.

Can’t believe you’ve given up. We only need heavy points deductions for a few teams and we’re home and hosed.

Well, Heckinbottom has (rightly or wrongly) been written off based on about 5 games.

Any manager taking over this shit show would end the season with a bit of egg on their face - even if that’s just a function of the number of bedwetters there are.

Being officially relegated before you arrive inevitably removes some stigma.

I can't believe you think we are going down, where's your fighting spirit?!!
