He's coming

The coaching and development of young players I assume. Where they come from isn't that relevant in this case, is it?
But there are no stand out players which leipzig have produced so what is so good about the coaching and development?

He did some impressive things in the youth setup at RB Leipzig sandwiched in between retiring as a player & taking over at Oostende. He had a good reputation in Germany & then did very well in his first season in Belgium.

The attraction is probably that he's cheap & will work within a budget & infrastructure which places Jan Van Winckel quite highly.
I think the attraction is, if you look closely at his CV, his name isn't Paul Heckingbottom and there is at least the chance he will not persist in replicating the exact same tactics and selections which have, and which continue to serve us so poorly this season.

Interesting article on it here

seems like the reasoning is the first team far outstripped the academy following the red bull takeover and it’s taken years of intakes to get it up to speed and they hope this current crop roughly the last ones blessin will have worked with are the ones to finally bridge that gap.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Ertl was indeed Austrian. Jordan Amissah in the youth set up (goalkeeper) is German/Ghanaian; if you're stretching the definition then Chris Short (centre half, played under Warnock) was born in Münster but to English parents.
Wasn't Chris right back under Kendall? Craig, the brother, was the centre half Colin signed.

Jokanovic is my preferred option
And even he has plenty of question marks.
Very expensive for an out of favour coach who’s touted as a sure thing yet no one has broken their necks to get him for the past few seasons. He’s now left to try and drum up interest through his representatives in a desperate attempt to get back.

Im quietly excited or at least intrigued about this guy.

I suppose, theres a certain ambition about taking this chance on an unknown like this over some more well known, safer names (jokanovic excluded). A bit all or nothing, really good or really shite, and im here for it.

Altogether now...

Because he learned his trade as a coach in the RB Leipzig youth/development system, which is very highly regarded around the world and produced Hasenhuttl.

Learnt his trade as a youth coach. We’re basically appointing RB Leipzig’s equivalent of Derek Geary after a 6 month stint at Motherwell. I’m fine for it, if we’re skint roll the dice but he’s got no track record so it’s an absolute shot in the dark.

For the defence I would like to present exhibits Mourinho Wenger, Ferguson and our very own, Wilder.

TBF Ferguson won 3 SPL titles and UEFA Cup Winners Cup at Aberdeen, Wenger won the league at Monaco, Wilder had done well wherever he’d been and just won a League 2 title. Mourinho admittedly was a gamble for Benfica, but had been an Assistant at Barca.

Ironically the biggest local similarity is Leeds givingHeckingbottom a crack (!) - successful at youth team level, did well in a short stint at Barnsley in his first gig.

Yeah, I'm not going to bat for the guy, just explaining what I think is the appeal for our board. I like the look of him but you're right to say it's a gamble. We just need to get someone through the door at this point and stop the rot.

I know DC, but there’s no discernible track record with the guy. I think it’s a fair comment to struggle to grasp the appeal apart from he’s different from his predecessor. It’s an enormous gamble trusting our parachute payments to an unknown. Arguably a bigger one than Weir IMHO who at least had some pedigree in the U.K. and potential to maybe bring in some players from former clubs.

Let’s hope he’s our David Wagner / Daniel Farke and can get us up. The reality though is the board need to find some more investment in the next 3 years as we’ll either (a) run out of parachute payments, or (b) we’ll get up and just fall at the quality hurdle again.
