Most corners come from crosses played out by defenders too.

Close the man down, stop the cross. Don't give them the opportunity.

Norwood the other night, loses the ball and stands off. Get close. Don't allow the man space. Get in the way of the danger. It's fucking simple stuff.

Jack O’Connell has played twice this season, and we conceded from corners in both of those games.

He also played almost all last season, and strangely we had the 2nd best defence in the league.....just saying.

It is simple stuff but the fact that it's not being done suggests that we're dealing with mentally and physically exhausted players.

Losing the two genuine PL quality players we had (JOC and Hendo) and replacing them with Mr Nobody and Rammers is the cause of the set piece clamity this season.

There is no answer, were now a championship club, but I'd rather be a championship club with JOC in defence than one without.
I'm also airing on the side of being a championship club without Ramsdale in goal, give Verrips a chance!

Just to put some numbers on this. In the entire of last season we conceded 6 goals from set piece balls into the box, in the first half of this season we've conceded 9.

The reason isn't only the keeper, one of the criticisms of Henderson was that he wasn't particularly dominant from crosses, preferred to stay on his line and would always punch, rather than catch. Ramsdale and Henderson are also the same height, so no advantage there.

I think the JOC factor is huge for three reasons.
1. We had stability and each player knew their role
2. He's an absolute beast of a bloke, big and commanding
3. When you lose your most dominent defender, every single player finds themselves making a bigger threat


In addition to all that, we've also faced more set pieces this season. We have committed the second most fouls (whilst being the least fouled) in the league and have the worst disciplinary record in the league. Decision making has been really poor this season, we've given away far too many avoidable set pieces.
