I think it just goes to show the huge gap between the Championship and the Premier League.

As it stands, I don't think our current squad in its current state of mind would beat either of them and a few others in the Championship for that matter. Equally, if we were to play West Brom next week, I'd be expecting a 2 or 3-0 defeat.

They now seem to be conditioned, following all the "how do you expect us to compete" twaddle, that losing by only one goal constitutes a decent performance, that we're "competing" but ultimately losing as the plucky underdogs who tried hard but lost out in the end like a lower league side in the cup. The lowering of expectations has led to a lowering of confidence and ultimately performances.

You get no points for losing 5-0 but you get still get no points for losing 1-0.

What are the rumours on JOC?

Not recovering properly?
Just something that was posted on the forum earlier that a contact within the club had told him Jack had suffered a major setback and would be out for another year and if surgery didn't work hed be finished.
Probably bull shit like 75% of what's posted on here by the so called ITK mob.

Your post was a joke wasn't it ?

No.

Tell me what real effect Berge has had on any game we have played.

He struggles to fit into any 'system' Wilder used to play and come 70 minutes starts to tire quickly. Compare with other midfielders in his category in the Premier League who are still box-to-boxing on 85 minutes and driving the game up the pitch.

All he has shown is vague elements of deftness, even then fleeting and not exactly game changing. Then he's pulled a hamstring, and out for five months.

Not exactly a stellar return for his price.

True but Deeney and Pukki still bagged 10 goals last season in the PL and I still believe would've been good signings for us...

We'd be lucky to get £15m for him. He's had half a season and had little effect on any of our games. He also hits the wall on 70 minutes and fades fast.

For him to be efective in a top six side, he needs to show so much more

pommpey
I disagree, we'll get at least what we paid for him. It will be in his contract to sell him for minimum that amount, maybe more.

He was way out in front of the player ratings so would have been player of the season

Which totally negates your ludicrous opinion

Yeah. And we've got Stevens, Norwood, Fleck, Lundstram and a shitload of Championship duds up front.

We need a clear out and a new system. Play 5-3-2 next season and we are fucked

pommpey
I cannot see why anyone can think we might be top 6 next season, based on our squad, our recent signings, our performances, the ages of our best players & no idea who will manage us! The word 'if' has been abused on this thread, whilst the facts are there in PL history & in the current table.

I think the benchmark is when we played Bristol. They're sat right in the middle of the Championship, we had players missing, low confidence, and while we struggled a bit for creativity we absolutely dominated that game. That to me was the difference between Championship and Premiership on display. The worst of the worst was far too good for an average team the step below.

I don't have any real doubt that our current crop are more than a match for most of the sides below. What we don't know is which players we'll keep, what the recruitment will look like in terms of replacements and needed additions, and who the manager will be.

If we went out and found another Duffy type and kept the bulk of the team together I think we'd pretty much be there. On the other hand, I always think any side is one or two players away from being half a dozen places lower.

The first 10 games of next season will be a good indicator of where we'll end up.

Norwich last season in my opinion gave a much better account of themselves than we have so far, that's not just points on the board, it's performances and intent. They weren't good by any means but we have been dire. They kept hold of Pukki for goals and Buendia/Cantwell for creativity.

I'm resigned to losing Berge and 2 of JOC, Baldock, Bogle and Egan.

I think we need to lose Norwood, Stevens, Jags, Lundstram and Bryan as well as shite like Rodwell who is just taking up a wage. McBurnie, Burke and Brewster need to shape up quickly. Sharp and Didsy will be bit part players under a new manager.

If we can replace these with quality then we'll be ok, But Norwich and Watford kept the core of their PL side together, I don't think we'll do the same.

If we can get rid of some of the 'sludge runners' (copyright Webding) and replace them with creative players we have a good chance.

But I'm not going to come out and say we'll be top 6 based on what we have now, what we'll likely lose and how we've played for the last 12 months.
I don't think we need to be good straight away. We need to aim to start seeing the real potential of the next team by January time. You can get top 6 based on one excellent half season

Really
So oconnell Egan Berge mcgoldrick Basham are all shit then
Strange how they got us 2nd last time out
You call McGoldrick quality really? He's good don't get me wrong but there's no way he is quality. Ok we have quality defenders but who have we got up top who you can call quality there's no one unless Brewster turns good in coming seasons

You can't help but think

Norwich were pretty poor in the prem
Finished bottom by some margin and suffered many a haevy defeat

But are running away with the championship title this season

Pukki is finding scoring easy again after drying up last season

Watford have also look like claiming automatic

So once we get all our injuries sorted
And O Connell Egan Basham Berge are back as a unit perhaps we can refind our mojo in the same way

They've looked miles ahead and to be fair were not convincing in the prem Last season
Yeah but they more or less kept their Premier squad together. As well as keeping their manager. Most of our pitiful squad will never play Premier league football again and we haven’t got a manager...So

I disagree, because i think there might be a huge difference between a Chris Wilder 5-3-2 and a Blessin 5-3-2... I think we may end up playing that formation at least for part of the season because of the squad we have

Reading this thread really emphasises the fact that we need to appoint the new manager now, not at the end of the season. It gives him a few live games to assess the present squad; evaluate who stays and who needs to be shown the door; the medium/long term injury list; find out if the present squad can adapt to a new system; have the opportunity to see the U23's before their season ends and finally find out what budget he will have to bring new blood in.
A mountain to achieve even if the guy starts to work within the next couple of weeks. Virtually impossible if he only has the close season
to carry out the above and would be faced with a 'catch up' scenario once the new season begins. Just hope that Hecky was right when he said the new guy whoever he is will be watching, although I have my doubts if the guy hasn't even been appointed yet.
We have to hit the ground running from day one.

Is ten good?

I think its telling that teams in Italy, Spain, Germany never come in for these strikers that go from 10 in the Prem to 20 in the championship every year of there career.

A relegated team's striker scoring 10 goals is good in my eyes. We had a great season last year finishing 9th and our top scorer was 6 goals lol.

So 'on this site'. This, in a world of football where the team around him and the players he is 'out in front of' have contrived to lose a heck of a lot of games and commit us to a humiliating relegation. And he's been out of the team for a very long time too. One goal, 14 appearances (out of 30 PL games).

Yet - 'player of the season' and he will keep his value and I'm the one talking in ludicrous terms

How much do you reckon we'll get for Mousset, huh?

This should be good.

two of those wont be here one only staying due to long term injury that leaves you two over 30's coming to the twilight of their careers not the medium term future - recruitment is the key for us

Norwich’s starting line-up last night included Buendia, Cantwell and Dowell. They won 7-0. We don’t have a single player with that sort of attacking style or prowess.
