the thing that seems to have gone unnoticed in all of this hullaballoo is that miss massey was actually 'correct' in her offside call.. at the time i thought she was wrong but after looking at the replay it was a brilliant decision and took a lot of balls to stand up to the abuse etc she got from the stands.. if she lives up to those standards on monday then i'm not concerned in the least

Brilliant decision? No she was just doing her job!

She's continued to do her job and taken abuse from the stands, thats what linesmen have been doing for years, some get the decisions right some get them wrong.

The whole thing would never have been a media issue had it not been Murdoch teaching Andy Gray a lesson, if anyone else had said it in passing, you wouldnt have heard jot about it.

She wasn't just doing her job, she was doing it well. What happens when you do your job well? Any chance of a bonus?
And is it right that they get abuse when the decisions are correct?

A chuffin split arse! Great!

Aren't these two statements contradictory, in as much your response to the OP implies as a woman she is not as capable as a man and in your second response you are implying she is capable?

I was under the impression that Grays comments were made before she actually made any decisions in the game?

If she does her job well then her employers will, i'm sure give her one.

The thing with this is that its all been overplayed. She is in place as a Linesman, to get the offside decisions right, so many others get them right week in week out, but many don't. I'm sure that given time she'll also be getting plenty wrong.

Refs and linesmen get abused all the time its part of the job and a good part of our game.

Frankly I don't care if she gets the decisions right or wrong, just gets the ones affecting us right - milk, two sugars!

Correct, as a man she'd be capable, but she's not a man

Sorry dear boy, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there. It's neither part of the job or a good part of the game. It's a part of some people's matchday experience to hurl abuse, but it's no more "part of the game" than diving or two-footed challenges.

I realise you're only joking, but still. It's not good.

Come off it Yoss, you always come across as fairly level headed. I'm just having a wind up, but if its come to the stage where you can't make a sexist comment or two then the world is very much in danger of becoming a very boring place.

This whole thing came about because of someone shopping Keys and Gray for their off air comments, which for me is a joke.

Your link to diving and two-footed challenges is a poor one, diving has certainly not always been part of the game, but abuse from the stands has, its only recently that its become an issue. Fans will abuse players, managers, other fans, refs, subs, mascots, police you name it, nobody is immune and for me thats right.

The type of abuse is the issue, if its good natured then its all good fun, if its malicious then of course its not... but who decides where the line is?

Where's the difference between telling Sian to stick the kettle on and waving an inflatable banana at Nos? It's all a big laugh, right?

Seriously? Really? You want to compare?

I bet your a laugh a minute during a pre/post match pint

So using your scale of -isms, (as you are the authority, it seems), can you put the following in order of acceptability: racism, sexism, ageism, heterosexism, ableism

I'll stick my neck out then...

In the context of a joke, they are all as acceptable as each other.

Haha. I don't quite know what to do with that. I'll assume you mean that if it's only a joke then they're all fair game. I suppose it depends if you're the butt of the joke. Again. And again. And again.

However, if you meant they're all equally unacceptable then I agree.

You don't have to be an authority on 4 year old english to understand they were all jokes generally aimed at the Gray scenario. Why you had to bring racism into it is an issue for yourself though

Ooh you love to bring racism into the arguement don't you, thats two separate threads now. I'm not sure why all types of terrace abuse should be compared. Personally I think any form of hate filled abuse is bad, fun filled stuff piss taking then its, good. :)

To answer your question. I'll take a guess is that with the kettle its classed as an offensive weapon (unless its been tested by a qualified electrician) and the other is just a breach of advertising agreements because even the inflatable banana's are "chiquita" bananas.

Is the inflatable banana fair trade?

I imagine both the banana and the kettle would create fire safety issues at the lane.

I should also point out that I am not suggesting that Sian should be making the tea all of the time, others should also take their turn...

Where's PervertBlade gone when you need him?

I'm glad someone picked that one up, i was quite pleased with that one! :)

Just to expand that a little so you get my vote...

In the mutually understood context of a joke, they are all as acceptable as each other.

I saw her lino Sunderland v Blackpool at xmas and she was much better than almost every bloke one we've had in front of the JSS this season.

and yes I would.
