I hate football agents

But it is good to see that only one PL club has spent less than us. Look at how much West Ham have spent 🤭

Fuck me. What a shitbox website. You find yourself trying to read what could be facts about the 'news' you wanted trying to skate round the utter, utter dismal clickbait shit.

Why didn't they just put:

"Sheffield United spent £4,256,434 on agent's fees. You cunts."

and have done with it.

pommpey

Always hated football agents. Parasites who could easily win an audition as Fagin in the musical Oliver. I assumed in the early days certain overseas players who couldn't read write or speak the queens language may need the help of a middle man.

A bit like the interpreter down at the local benefits office or doctors surgery.

I wonder how much of our agent spend went to Webber, Henderson, Akinbiyi and Asaba? All now agents I believe.

The most shocking thing in this thread is how few people have an adblocker.
Switched mine off and had a look just to see how bad it has got...

How does anyone read anything, having to parse through all that nonsense twice a paragraph!

I got this clickbait...

That one always makes me laugh, it's an SSE electricity bill with "life insurance" photoshopped onto it.

The other one is the old boy holding a massive drivers license. Local news websites have pimped their selves out for this shit and it's why no one bothers anymore.

There are fat kids all over the country playing virtual football games on their computers. Is it Football Manager or summat like that?

There are 3448 secondary schools in England. If the £263 million was spread over the secondary schools then each school could employ a nutitionist / sports coach on about £75k per anum.

Result. Healthier nation. More opportunity of attracting English youngsters into our academies.

The PFA are the players union. Unions look after their members. They should be looking after the contracts for players not agents.

I don’t understand why professional football clubs should be expected to pay the cost of parents’ failure to bring their kids up properly.

About time something was introduced regarding agents:

Parasites 🦠 of the game .. but in this league an unfortunate necessary evil
Many players would be lost without an agent.
A good one will look after them and their family when they move, as well as a whole host of other benefits.
Yes, there are money grabbing ones, but what profession doesn’t have those and they give the whole group a bad name.

Because parents don’t know what is needed to be a professional sports person ?

I think the union does have agents, but many players choose not to use them.

Well seems the money grabbing ones are getting their knickers in a twist about having their fees capped. Finally after all these years.

Are you just trawling for posts to contradict? The suggestion was that the money paid to agents should be given to schools to cover the cost of nutrionists and PE teachers. And the post is over a year old, about a subject I no longer care about.

The ex-footballer being an agent and ‘not letting players make the same mistakes I did’ always makes me laugh.

They’re not having a career as an agent out of their altruistic natures, so why pretend that they are?!

It’s the same as when they become financial advisors and say that they want to give footballers good advice based on mistakes they made, it’s bollocks. They just know that they can make money out of some players and use their contacts to get lucrative clients.

Not at all. The thread was live today.

When I fell in love with football in 1970, there were a few few agents representing players. I have never felt so disillusioned until this evening. The football agents still keep breaking rules

Are agents subject to some kind of code or regulation? Is it enforced by the league, or by government?
Employment Agencies Act 1973.

Although I bet not a single one of them has heard of it.

Largely watered down (by the Tories in 1995) since it came in. Small team in some government department somewhere oversees it. Never looked at football agents. Concentrated on modelling agencies for years, for obvious reasons. Came out of the woodwork a few years ago when Sports Direct at Shirebrook was in the news a lot.

Ask me one on sport.

Here's the latest available data for agent fees by club (1-Feb-22 to 31-Jan-23):

Surprised Forest so low given how many transfers they made last season!
