Blades totally dominate Weeds.
1st min shot blocked and poss pen for Quinn.
They had one chance in 1st half that gradel should have scored from but he headed wide
Nossy looked slightly nervous against Gradel for ten mins culminating in a very strange yard high diving header back to Simmo then after that nossy had him in his back pocket for rest of game and played really well.
Simmo as far as i can remember did not have a save to make in the 1st half.
Blades had perhaps 6 or 8 shots on target in 1st half and loads of crosses and pressure.
All players contributing and back 4 looked so solid.
About 10 mins in to 2nd half Blades got the reward their dominance deserverd.
Great ball from Monty to Quinn who's cross was put into his own net by Lichaj.
Not Luck but pressure that caused the own goal with Vokes and evans waiting to pounce should the ball carry.
Blades continued to produce good posession football drawing lots of fouls by weeds players.
On 73mis got rewarded again when sub Riise showed that touch of class he has and scored from a close but wide angle.
Weeds were getting continually frustrated by the speed of close down and resulted to pumping high balls to get back in to the game.
on about 88 mins their days missery was complete when they had Paynter sent off for what we think was a stamp on Lowry.
Although as the season has gone on we have got used to Blades giving games away, This was by far the best performance i have seen from us and the most composed.
All Blades players played well and it would be hard to single players out in such a composed game. So instead i'll double Monty and Quinny much to the discust no doubt of their detractors.
Crowd was brill and it was the best atmosphere all season.
If they could play to that level consistantly till the end of the season we'd stay up.

COYRAWW.

My match report. We were good, they were crap, I went home with a smile on my face. Nuff said.

Great stuff from United. The team was nicely balanced today and they played as well as they have for ages. I was worried by a very young pairing at centre back, but they were rarely troubled.

And weren't Leeds awful?!! How many fouls did they commit in the first half. Nothing nasty but relentless nudges and shoves.

All of which proves how chaotic this league is and how avoidable our predicament has been...

Looked very comfortable today. On top from first minute to the last. Defensively, I think we might have struggled a bit against a team with better wide players as the midfield was very narrow and the full backs didn't get a great deal of help.

2-0 didn't flatter us at all and it keeps the dream alive for 2 weeks at least. If the gap doesn't increase in the next set of fixtures, which look much easier for everyone else, then you never know...

Maybe they were crap because we were good? Just a thought.

Maybe we were good because they were crap. :) Actually, I reckon they thought they could just turn up and get three points! Don't really care. :) Must give our players a massive confidence boost.

And they call us a hoof ball team!! They just hoofed it over to Gradel at every opportunity!

Got to give a praise for Schmeichal in their goal, had a blinder and did really well trying to stop Evans being booked. Got a deserved round of applause from our Kop for that.

Nearly all our lads were magnificent. Quinn was MOTM for me, with Nosworthy close behind.

Aye, old ten bob foot's distribution was as per, but my word they couldn't get past our Nylon today. Well done. Quinn was the MOTM though, again, as you say.

But Nyron still gives you a couple of heart in mouth moments doesn't he?!

He was nice and steady second half and used his experience well to nullify their main threat on the wing. In the first he was to blame for allowing Gradel a free header that should have been a goal.

Well played, but for £20k a week of our money, I will still be glad when he's gone. :)

Quinn has been superb in the last few games, His speed of play is fantastic at the moment. Wins loads of freekicks because he is too fast for the opposition at the moment.

as one of his biggest detractors i'm fascinated to know why he has suddenly rediscovered his premiership form.. perhaps he has been carrying an injury for the past two seasons?

Quinn has really shut my mouth up lately and that takes some doing. Nos was slightly my motm though and I never thought i'd say that.
The after match player hugs show that Adams has got the dressing room atmosphere right at last.
Another great day to be a blade again.
We may have missed out on staying up but there will be some great away days next season if we do go down.

Count me in too Alien ,Quinn is proving me wrong at the moment he playing great. I think its all about balance and Monty ,Doyle, Quinn is a battling winning midfield suited to the way we play. I personally like the idea of winning the ball and getting it forward early ,the pedestrian 'skillfull' under Robson and Speed was awful to watch.

If that is the style that wins us games then i'm all for it. I would rather win games playing 'hoofball' than lose games playing 'attractive football'. Attractive football can look awful when your not winning games, and people will bang on about hoofball and Sean O'Driscoll until the cows come home, but i think even if he had come, he would have still faced the same problems as Micky Adams has, and we would still be in relegation trouble and it would have been awful to watch us trying to watch us survive trying to play pretty football.

In my book the only good football is the football that wins you games.

With Stephen Quinn i've noticed that he has started playing with a bit more confidence, and i've thought for a long time that beneath the silly mistakes, and despite treating the ball like a hot potato a lot of the time, there was a decent footballer trying to get out. When Quinny does the things like he did yesterday, he is a player i enjoy watching as he always had the ability to excite and be a leading player but i don't think he has been managed the right way to get that player out.

Playing within the right system, and with the right man management Stephen Quinn can be a cracking little player and over the last few weeks he has been one of the few plus points

Brownie, your first statement sums it up for me, winning is everything as far as I'm concerned. I thought we mixed and matched it yesterday, we matched Leeds physically and made it hard for them to play and then imposed some of our passing on them, mixed in with some direct play underpinned by a target man with the ability to hold up and bring others into it intelligently.
Some of our stuff was pleasing to the eye yesterday, but the defining factor was the back four and the three in front, they defended with vigour and intelligence which in turn gave our previously beleagured goalkeeper a bit of much needed confidence, he looked a decent keeper for once.
A word for the much maligned Doyle too, he did his job admirably yesterday. His role is not the most romantic one, sitting in front of the back four and breaking up play whichever way is not the most eyecatching role. Doyle did it effectively and efficiently. Well done Michael.

It was Doyle's best game for us yesterday, but I still thought he was ordinary.

If a player is going to sit deep, then I don't want to see any space for the opposition to play in front of our centre backs. Yet with Doyle in the team I've seen that too often. I also want to see him filling in and covering when we're short, but he's not mobile enough. I'm happy for us to have the dogs of war out there given our predicament, but Doyle seems to be past the age of conscription.

He really does seem to be Monty two or three years hence.

I actually thought he was our worst player yesterday and he's played better for us in other games. Yesterday he had a few passes that were yards short although directionally good. Other times he could have hung onto the ball for longer which a more quality footballer would have done.
I accept what you say about comparison with Monty.

It was a complete team performance that won the day but I would have picked out Mat Lowton as MOTM for adding much needed stability in the back 4. His contribution helped to have Bechio (Leeds top scores this season) substituted for never looking likely to score.

Just how many positions can he play well in? Have we got ourselves another Jagielka?

I despair. Have we learned nothing from our abject failure? How do Southampton, Brighton, Huddersfield, Bournemouth et al win games?

What do we want? Non-Football! When do we want it? Now and Always.

We really do  Hoofing don't we?

Our abject success under Robson and Speed was amazing ,I don't know much about the teams you mention as I don't watch much div 3 football but I'm pretty sure they don't pass it around the back 4 all afternoon boring the pants off everyone and going nowhere.
What the fuck is hoofing supposed to mean anyway and did we 'hoof it' yesterday ?

In the 1st half Doyle was awful and the game literally bypassed him and he was chasing shadows. I was doing a bit of a Doyle watch. 2nd Half he was a lot better and certainly he is best 45 minutes for us.

You mention those teams you failed to mention Leeds, Football or your term Hoofball?

Oh by the way did you see Monty on the run in the first half down the wing producing a great cross? Loads of great stuff by Monty in that game and I challenge you to deny it.

Just had another look on i player. I thought this at the game also. When Doyle does what Monty normaly does, ie when they play together Monty has far more freedom and becomes far more creative.

I would have thought it obvious. I'm referring to teams doing very well in the League we will shortly be joining.

The Maestro did very well against Leeds within his crippling limitations. Shall we discuss the dozens of games wherein he has been a complete liability?

Wow I know his broken toe healed, are you now telling me he is playing with MS or some such like debilitating illness?

As for the other comment, I feel sorry for you because of your inability to accept a player playing well over the last few games and the fact you really want him to have a bad game each time to back up your case. It is very sad that you wish him to fail for your team instead of succeeding for your team.
