I said it before... It was a great day out spoiled only by the football. A good drink with some great people who frankly deserved better than what was served up....sums up most of my 40+ years supporting the Blades if truth be told.

This was a pretty embarrassing experience for me  .

I was at a conference for work which was taking place in a Marriott hotel the day of the game. I wasn't paying proper attention to where I was going after heading back from a break, when I accidentally entered the wrong room....and walked in on Nigel Clough & Garner giving a talk to the United squad with footage of Swindon up on the screen.

Surreal experience for a Blade living in Swindon at the time, as you can imagine.

On reflection I should have volunteered to come in and do a job at centre back....

Update: here’s the link. Can see why it’s not given. He’s blown well before Adams scores.

I haven’t looked at those highlights since the game itself. Somehow the defending is even more woeful than I remember it being at the time. For those unfortunate to have been going a second time that season, that’s 10 goals they’d have seen Howard, Alcock and McEveley concede on that ground that season.

I went to the game and was in the side stand, when it went to 3-0 down on the night I remember seeing Clough hiding in the bench and it was Morgan (as assistant boss) bouncing up and down on the sidelines trying to rally the troops.

When it went to 5-5 on the night we had one disallowed, I think it was Adams who got it, at the time I thought we were robbed on that decision but never seen it back on tv since.

Agree with all that has been said with regards to Clough and his filling in most of the season with non centre backs (at centre back) and that Swindon game totally highlighted it for me at the time. I think if he'd have sorted that we'd have gone up (and with the money he had to spend he should have sorted the centre backs out), we did get to three semi-finals in his 18 months at the Lane FA cup, League Cup and Play offs, so he can't have been that bad, bizarrely we looked much better against teams from a higher division (Forest and Southampton home games especially).

I watched it on the box and the camera panned to him at 3-0 and he had a great big grin on his face. He was done then for me.

Not content that he’d bored us to death with his crap negative football, he must have thought it was really hilarious that our non league ‘defence’ was falling apart in front of his eyes. He’d have seen just missing out on the play offs that year as a success given that it was an improvement on the year before.

The one thing that struck me was that he never understood the importance that we had to get promoted. You always got the impression that the play offs were as high as he thought we could go.

it is really the strangest game i have ever watched. because there was so many times i had given up & then thought we could do it. & it really was the hope that kills. & a rollercoaster of emotions
gave up at 3-0 (5-1)
renewed hope at 3-2 (5-3)
gave up at 4-2 (6-3)
thought we could still win at 4-3 (6-4)
gave up at 5-3 (7-4)
then screaming at the tv & kicking every ball at 5-4 (7-5) & certainly 5-5 (7-6)

but i agree with what someone said about yeovil they vastly deserved promotion. we didnt we were dreadful & it will have fantastic for yeovil to have played a season in championship & aquitting themselves very well. its like us make champions league

anyone want to swap places with Swindon 5 years on

as much as we used to moan about backing , after this Swindon as a club sold every last bit of talent at the club and ended up in division 4
we got to the prem ,eventually

I seem to remember Sky were more obsessed with showing Brendan Rodgers in the crowd than the actual match!

Anyone remember the first leg? Doane scored a fine goal that was disallowed..

I went to the second leg but my memory is a complete blur. I stayed in a hotel in Bristol the night before. That morning I took the train to Swindon and started on the cider early afternoon.

Obsessed with our shite games 😅 Sure skysports are pigs.

Just flicking through channels and on SSPL its Blades vs Wigan 07 and on SSF its Wolves vs Blades 03. Fuck off 😑🙄

They also put piggy Hinchcliffe on comms for our matches, imagine if they put Michael Brown on commentary for pigs matches, they'd be whinging and squealing for weeks!
