Van Winkle sounds like he is straight from a dutch nursery rhyme, like this whole sorry pantomime.

We never do anything the easy way.

Feeling a bit glum :(😟

You are sooooo wrong
I occasionally tune into Soccer Saturday to watch the live scores that is all. The pundits are just unneccesary noise and if Sue Smith is on I turn off
I have to agree about Sue Smith - great player but awful pundit, offers nothing opinion wise different except very boring run of mill stuff. Then again, look at that awful panel- Lee Hendrie - shows the dearth of quality pundits and then Merson , usually plays the fool but he does make a very good point about DoF in Prem but not in Championship. I suppose a stopped clock is right twice a day !!

The fact that Micah Richards says it’s a shit decision gives me a lot of encouragement .

I think Joe Cole summed it up perfectly. He stated the likes of ollie Watkins did not come to us, purely because of our salary structure, and the boards refusal to play premier league wages. Rio Ferdinand says , " Wilder will leave with his head held high". Have a break Chris, but I bet your phone is ringing already!!!!

If Van Winkle takes over, at least we will have Steel City Derbies again in League one or League 2. I've even seen Gary Monk mentioned as a possible next manager!

...whatever they think will get them attention and get their comments reprinted

It's the Blades way it seems. If Van Winkle gets the job let's hope he gets some advice from the Wally with the Brolly on communication with the press. After watching the Blades for over 50 seasons we never do anything the easy way but we still love em.

Not really, a lot of people I’ve spoken to aren’t surprised. Take a look at the league table for the reason why.
On that basis Sean Dyche would have been sacked by Burnley 5 years ago. Would that have been a good move as well?

I honestly believe the signings are a bit of a red herring. There is no way every managers signings are going to be great. Even sir Alex signed some shockers. Out of all his signings I think there is only McBurnie & Brewster who’s been dubious. Both I believe were not his original target and the jury is still out on Brewster.

After doing some research, it cant be JVW because he hasn't technically been employed in one of Europe's top five leagues for the last two years, so under Brexit regulations he's ineligible for the job

What happens if I think it’s neither a good idea nor astounding that’s he’s left?
I'm completely with you on this. Purely looking at the results and performances over the last 9 months, I'm astounded that anyone is astounded at the outcome (whatever that is!). It's a harsh, results business. Do I necessarily think it's the right decision for us at this moment? Nope.

Only the Prince and his hanger on's think it is a good idea to part company with Chris Wilder. Anyone who follows football from Pep Guardiola to the youngest fans are astounded by this decision.
If the prince thought it was a good idea to sack Wilder he would have gone before Christmas.

I honestly can’t see the fans taking to any other manager/coach. Certainly not Wilders direct replacement. The only other person who would get a free pass, from the fans is......Billy Sharp

Despite what has come out since, that dipstick Merson still thinks the club wanted rid of Wilder:

Are you saying Paul Merson hasn't made the effort to ensure he's got a grasp on the facts and undertaken even the slightest piece of prep-workk before giving his opinion?
I'm shook!

Man waits for the benefit of hindsight to form an opinion.

In other news, I think everyone last Saturday should have chosen the following lottery numbers....

Stating the obvious a bit but obviously he's right

Well he isn't actually is he?

We've now got 3 points, which may be after the fact but kind of proves this hindsight lark.
Wilder's points/game return wasn't spectacular and I'd guess Hecky is probably in front now, which shows what a daft metric is it for comparison.
It also totally ignores the fact that we didn't sack him and he wanted to go.

Punditry is the easiest job in football everything is based on hindsight.

I have more respect for those who go into coaching/management like David Weir than anyone who goes into punditry.

Yes it is a daft metric so makes no difference. Resigned/sacked makes no difference. As he says he'd be the one you'd want to try and go back up so ye we got it horribly wrong and ye Merson is right.

..but you don’t know who will take over so it is too early to judge.
I guess Norwich and Wolves fans were negative about the original choice of their current managers

lets face it there will be loads unhappy with who they appoint unless the win results come flooding in.

Also I dispute it being "horribly wrong" maybe after 5/6 matches but PA stuck with him through thick and thin CW had 20+ matches in the end the ideals of both parties ended up just too far apart.

Look at all the other managers that have gone this season after a lot less matches has Merson come out and said those were horribly wrong ? You watch after match 10 next season if we are in the top 5 he'll do another article saying how "Sheffield United have got it so right since CW left!"

i still think wilder deserved next season. i think we wouldve been playoffs at least, but then he was frustrated as he had his hands tied, because we couldnt afford british players but he was probably worried about too many foreign players as depends who you get some are brilliant & some can be very disruptive or homesick. dimitri payet was incredible 1 year & a flop the next

but its happened & we move on now. because no need to look back.
