What is the record?

For the longest winless streak for a newly appointed manager?

I was thinking about emailing The guardian that to have that in their 'The knowledge' articles.

I had a question about Micky in there a couple of weeks ago so they might not give me another bash.

Micky's got some distance to equalise Paul Jewell's record at Derby, which was very long indeed :)

ROFL - and didn't we bring that to an end too?

If there's an end of season fancy dress away day - there's only one option this year - The clown.

We certainly did :)

Technically that's only a league record, as he defeated the grunters on penalties in the FA cup.

Just checked. 28 league games without a win.

So the one saving grace is that we're not as crap as Derby. That'll have to do for starters anyway.

And some years ago, didn't Sunderland have a long poor streak under Wilkinson and Cotterill? Can't remember whether or not it was winless.

didnt a prem side only win one all season and get relegated with worst EVER points tally in top flight?
sunderland maybe?

I thought that was Derby the season after we were relegated. The only team they beat was Newcastle. And, I have a feeling they drew the other game against them as well.

I've been looking through my various books to try and find out what is the most number of home league defeats we've ever experienced in a season.

The record seems to be a shared affair. In the 1967-8 and 1975-6 we lost 10 home matches in both of those seasons. they were 42 game seasons, so we played 21 home games.

This season we have so far lost 9 home games out of 17 home games played. So on Tuesday we could equal our worst recorde, and there will still be 3 games left for us to set a new record!!
