Chris Wilder says Squad Needs A Shake Up

In my opinion he gets 10 games at the start of next season. If were not in the top 2 then he gets sacked. Some may think thats harsh & like I say its only my opinion. But any credit he did have left has now been used up by picking Lundstram every fucking game.
I think the squad needs to be reshaped over three transfer windows ready for 2022/23 promotion push and then added to in summer 2023 ready for the Premiership
Expecting us to come back straight away and then survive in the Premiership is unrealistic

All things considered I’d say its the right time for the manager to publicly say it.

For someone who’s won LMA awards, been touted as a genius less than 12 months ago and is on a multimillion pound contract, the fact it’s taken till the 22nd defeat from 28 games this season to see it is remarkable

I think we all know he’s talking about Lunny, so why didn’t he say to him in December
“John, contract is with your agent, 48 hours to sign it, your call mate, but I can’t have half arsed attitude around the team
3 options

1-Sign it
2- get your self a move in JTW,
3- your on garden leave till June,

6 months with no training or visibility will fuck your options in the summer, so sort it now

Can’t blame CW for injuries, COVID, no fane etc

But persistence with Norwood, Lunny, McB, the system, the tactics and recruitment lands squarely at the managers door

Watch his face when he says "maybe his decision to leave Sheffield was a good one" (Che Adams). I really hope Wilder hasn't had enough.

I wouldn't read too much into that tbh. It was well documented that Che was in with something of a 'crowd' when he was here and spent most of his spare time on the lash. I think Chris is just referring to a change in environment, and him getting his shit together.

Wilder has probably known for a long time that the squad needs a shake up just because he has only just come out and said it in the media doesnt mean he hasnt known about it
I dont know why people hang so much on press conferences from Managers they have to be careful what they say and cant say what they are probably really thinking
I do agree on Lundstram he should have binned him off a long time ago

Foderingham
Verrips
Rodwell
Robinson
Ampadu (exp.loan)
Jagielka (coach)
Lowe
Lundstram
Moose

Add to that Berge will probably get sold. Also if we insist 3-5-2 let's not get too sentimental about Oli Burke because he's a winger at best.

Bring in Regan Slater, Rhys N-D & maybe Jake Eastwood into the squad.

Sign 2 x CB, 2 x CM, 1 x CAM (if Freeman goes) and perhaps another striker.
Probably agree with most of that.

I think a lot will depend on who you are replacing.

I would be having a question mark over Stevens. Yes we will be at. Slower level so he should find it easier but he's on a downward cycle and into his 30s. RND has a lot more upward trajectory. Him and Lowe would seem most cost effective and lovely to improve.

No, not now, but that's not my fault. After not getting Swift he seemingly gave up on covering that position.
So you do understand.

We don't know half of what goes off with player recruitment, so who knows what happened with Swift or other alternatives.

Though it's fair to say it was a mistake to go into the season without proper cover in that position.

but he shouldnt have he knew we were short of numbers in midfield before the season started and why did we let luke freeman go out on loan before we got other bodies in ?

Freeman is a bit of a red herring here, imo, as he's left footed. It would seem that he assumed that Berge could play there, if necessary and Basham/Ampadu could move into the withdrawn role. It's obviously a gamble which went horribly wrong.

Did you watch Freeman on sky yesterday ?
Jesus if you think he's the answer god help us, he makes Lunny look like Pele.

Your point?
That it’s been said several times already this season and has proven to be an entirely inaccurate bed wetting appraisal of the situation.

Do you agree that because of what Wilder said we aren’t going to get another point?

I would think a squad overhaul was a given. I think the question is who does it and how?

The story last week was about "sticking to the plan" does this statement show a change to that?

What we do seem to know about Swift is we offered a derisory sum of money for someone who could have gone straight into the first 11...3 or4m was the reported amount. Unsurprisingly Reading said no....we then proceeded to spend 23m on Brewster !

I want Wilder to stay but I cant help think hes pushing the board to sack him. He brought all these players here and a fair few on the lists earlier in the thread have been signed in the last 2 seasons and hardly been seen on the grass! Many of those that have haven't looked up to it.

So to me it's a combination of not being able to pay the wages of some of our targets AND very poor use of the money that was spent. It's not one or the other it's both and if the board and Wilder can admit that there may be a way forward under the current regime

Probably agree on when he has known mate, maybe he should have said it early, seen as we could all se it!
Arguably he didn’t really need to say owt, JL just disappears off the radar and when asked CW just shrugs and say “only lads committed can wear the shirt”
Cue doffing of caps

Duffy did more for SUFC the Lunny, and he was whisked out quicker than a paedo at a play area.

To be fair, that’s not the team he wants to play.

Look at the ratio of games per season with regards to Swift and you’ll quickly see why we only offered £3.5m.

Not if the plan involves overhauling the squad.

Did folk really expect Wilder to write off players publicly before the season was done, given the thinness of the squad, and knowing January spending wasn’t likely. All just to appease the internet critics?

We know exactly who he’s talking about, and have done for months.

I've for a while we've spent big money by our standards, but we've shopped at Primark instead of going a tad upmarket. I hate to say it but Eddie Howe and Klippety Klopp had our pants down over Moose and Brewster, I don't mean Brewster crap but he's one for future and we paid way over the odds.

I just hope that Wilder's idea of a shake up mirrors our own and dosen't mean building a new team around Lunny, Rodwell , Lowe and Stevens!

I understand that THIS squad is one that CW has spent lots of money on & built,. So maybe more than the squad needs a shake up? Change in tactics, coaching, recruitment etc?

At some point I would like to hear the words 'I have made some mistakes, some buys have not worked out but I intend to learn from them'. Or words to that effect.

Clearly some of our players are not of PL quality & never will be, but can do a job for us, whilst for others they never will be PL quality & need moving on when possible!

The issue for me is can CW build a team around the quality that there is/can be developed/bring in, & mount an attempt [not necessarily succeeding] at promotion next year?

I am hopeful, but based on the last 31 games I am not convinced, so am I am Peacock or a bed wetter?

not saying hes the answer but we shouldnt have let him go out on loan without covering his position first thats the first rule of good management think at the time chris thought he had bagged swift still a poor decision though

I'd happily see the back of Foderingham, Rodwell, J Robinson, Lundstram & Mousset.

I'd also understand if Wilder called time on Enda Stevens & Oli Norwood's time with us, but I'd be sad to see them go after what they've given.

I don't think we'll have loads of interest in our players, but I wouldn't be surprised if a promoted team puts a bid in for Egan or Baldock.
Suspect Sander Berge will be doing his utmost to get himself a move too.

We will be shopping for replacements for the above & a new look midfield.
