Playing the kids in the Premier League!?

An ideal time for youngsters. We are down and no crowds to get on their backs so very little pressure.

If Wilder doesn't do it now he's a fool.

Completely disagree. It can't damage our season, that's already screwed, but it can damage their careers. Look at the likes of : Norwood, Stevens, Fleck, Sharp etc. Even they're struggling to stay positive this season and they're seasoned pros. What chance does a teenager stand being thrown into this?
We'll still be poor, they'll still be criticised. The only type of player I'd even consider, would be a young creative mid, who could be given a free role. Even then I question whether it could destroy confidence of someone so young.

This season is just awful, clearly it's not fun being out there. Don't subject them to it, especially any striker or defender.

There's never been a better time to bring em on, no points of any significance to lose, no crowd baracking any fuk ups. The main positive is, we get to see there cojones! Hit the ground running next season with some 'man football' under their belt.

My worry is that he'll start the season with Stevens and Baldock

I think Bogle/Baldock is healthy competition, Enda/Lowe isnt. Osborn is a god back up in that position, but from what I can gather RND is doing really well at Championship level so surely he has to be considered.

I tend to agree much as I would like to see some new faces ouf there.

Why Sheffield United won't be throwing in their youngsters after latest defeat of season

Chris Wilder will continue to resist the temptation to throw Sheffield United’s kids into Premier League combat after the Blades suffered their latest defeat of the season this afternoon

And, asked about his team selection for the clash with the Saints, Wilder admitted: “There’s a temptation to change it round at the top and maybe I got that wrong.
“There isn’t much option and the young kids aren’t ready to go on the pitch in that environment, they’re getting experience around professionals but they aren’t ready.
“The answer isn’t to stick them in. If it was the answer, I would.”

Enda for me although I can see Lowe going out on loan.
Stupid as I am, why buy Lowe if he is to go out on loan?
Stroking his non-existant beard - oh, I see, to get game time as he is one for the future.
And I thought that maybe the club’s future was in the Premier League for more than just two seasons.
Obviously not the plan was it if we are buying for the future with no thought of the here and now.
What was so stupid about planning for this season?

Best window ever ;)

On that basis, we know the question but go on tell us - what is the answer?

players not ready to go onto the pitch
names them on the subs bench anyway

How would he know he has hardly tried it. The only time he did Hackford got man of the match.
The real reason he won't do it is it would upstage the older players who he handed incredibly generous contract extensions too.
He's scared basically

If your ,say twenty and a right midfielder and you can't get past the ego that is lundsrum ,find another sport .cos he's Bob

I`m sorry thats bullshit. No crowds so no fans on their backs either way. Even last ten minutes there is no harm if I was one of the two youngsters and just watched that I`d be chomping at the bit to get on. I've heard CW say is a long while back that some of the youngsters are really good but "he wants to protect them for when they are ready" ? Protect them from what, upstaging the million pounds players that are on the pitch.

The answer IS to stick them in he just fails to see it and has a blinkered Lundstram view.

Other teams like Liverpool stick their U23's in every once in a while but no Sheffield United dont do it as its not the Sheffield United way. Sorry but quite angry if that statement is true above from CW.

That might have something to do with the £40m we paid for them.
And the fact that our fans aren’t overly patient or forgiving with younger players and the mistakes they make. The fees aren’t the players fault.

Are you genuinely comparing our academy with Liverpool’s and expecting some parity?
If they were at that level and good enough they’d be on. The fact that we’re struggling and can’t get a sniff I suggest speaks louder.
Unless of course you believe CW is deliberately damaging his reputation by wanting to be sacked?

I never said or meant either of the ones in bold so I think you have just made those question up or are on the merry juice.

Okay take another example Leeds put their youngsters in every so often. Loads of other clubs lower down the leagues than us put them in.

To put them on the bench and even have them warm up which I saw at one point then to turn round and say they are not ready whats the point in having them as a sub. To "experience" an empty stadium watching a team of quality Sheffield United players. Or do you think CW was setting them an example of showing them how not to play ? :)

After watching a couple of the U23 matches they have got more creativity, movement, awareness, basic skills than what Lundstram has in his whole body.

We are dead and buried anyway why not put them on for ten minutes ???

I find it interesting how when things are going bad, when there’s no where else to turn, when we’ve got no one else to insult people seem to come of the woodwork and say “put the kids in”. What does it mean? It’s like a backwards analogy of throwing your toys out the pram. “Put the kids in”. It always baffles me. Just genuinely interested why anyone thinks putting a bunch of 20 year old lads who have come through a League 1 academy system would somehow improve anything that’s happening on the pitch or somehow make them feel better about their lives. We don’t have any kids good enough or they would be playing.
