I lived in Farnworth which is chav central, but at the time (2003) I bought a detached house for £100k. I worked in North Manchester and houses in similar areas were out of my price range or I would have had to live in a demilitarized zone like Moston or Blackley.

I agree that the city and the club have historically lacked ambition. I dont think Wilder does. He has said loads of times he wants to kick the club on. I think the whole small club talk he's come out with lately is to try and mask how bad the season has been.

If we dont show more ambition at the boardroom level, e.g. increasing wages, it wouldnt matter if we had Pep or Klopp, the club will still ultimately slump like it is doing now.

As for the city - probably comes from attibute and constantly having a luddite council - which keeps getting re-elected... because people are locked into old traditional ways of voting and there never seems to be a credible and ambitious alternative.

I agree - why people keep guaranteeing the jobs of those they keep voting for is beyond me. Whatever anyone's political persuasion, I'm surprised they don't fancy giving the council the odd kick up the arse.

That being said, I think there's loads of positive developments going on in Sheffield right now. So I don't totally buy the "lacking ambition" tag. What can't be debated is that it's a financially poor city, that was too entrenched in old manufacturing.

Nothing will ever change until people living here get rid of this 'it'll be reyt' attitude and start demanding more from the council and our leaders. The heavy industry has gone. It's about time Sheffield moved on and re-invented itself

I genuinely don't understand why we let the selling club dictate the reported fee. It happened with Ramsdale (£10m not £18.5m), Brewster (£18m not £23.5m) McBurnie(£17m not £20m), Robinson (£4m not £8m, Mousset (£4m not £10m). Obviously some of those are closer than others but to me it seems that part of the antipathy towards Ramsdale is down to the fact that he's perceived to be the fifth most expensive Premier League goalkeeper of all time whereas in reality we paid an average fee for an average PL keeper who's believed to have the potential to be a top PL keeper.

However shite the council are, they aren’t preventing people / businesses from creating whatever business, in whatever sector they choose.

I’d say it’s actually happening quite rapidly. The problem is the extremely low base from where it started.

The reality is that we didn’t get a premier league keeper, unfortunately.

If he cost £10m, that’s still enormously over the odds for what we got.
 
Until we are a consistent premier league (capitals left off deliberately) then that is what we are for ambitious players.

And until we are, I’m comfortable having ambitious players come to us until they want to stay.

fcuk me here we go again. The council is responsible for about 1% of what happens in Sheffield, if that. What about the other 99%?

people moan about the council whilst sat on their @rses doing nothing about it expecting someone else to fix everything for them.

I grew up on Carlisle Street and in 1976 we were the last to leave but I don’t remember it being anything like a rich area

It's down to everyone in the city to change their attitude and be far more entrepreneurial and positive. The council is only one small part

I think it was around Firth Browns Atlas & Norfolk works near Carlisle Street and Saville Street East / Brightside Ln. and Vickers and Staybrite Works near Meadowhall. It was mostly run down when i heard about them though in 1970.

Agreed. The media generally report them at the highest possible amount in order to generate more clicks/views. It suits most of our fans’ agendas at the moment to quote the highest price as well as it makes us look more incompetent.
