Kiss arse ;)
Actually, SIDNEY! That greeting to Bill was from CR7, Neymar and Tevez. They asked if it was ok to post on my whatsamajig.
I said it was ok then telled 'em none of them was as good as TC.

Greatest of my time watching the Blades. I saw Brian Deane in his second (and third?) spells, I saw Fjortoft, I saw Beattie the first time, I saw Evans in the L1 "almost" season. None come close to Billy. He is a true club legend, a natural goalscorer, and by all accounts a genuinely nice bloke off the pitch as well.

I will confess I sometimes tire of hearing about Woodward, Currie et al. They're way before my time, and while I acknowledge them as club legends, it doesn't mean much more to me than "good players from our past."

I have recently acknowledged that when I am in my 50's/60's/(hopefully)70's, Billy will be the player that I talk about like that.

Deserves a stand naming after him at least. If he scores a few more winners and we achieve the seemingly impossible and stay up, then get a fucking statue built.

Billy Sharp was the guest on this weeks Super 6 podcast...

I enjoyed that. Not the most incisive interview ever, but it was good to hear him talking about players he's played with and other teams.

As we already knew, he's a very grounded lad and a fan too.

Keep it up Billy, there's more goals in those fat little legs yet.......

People go on about them BECASUE they were more than just 'good players'.

Think what De Bruyne can do with his range of passing and then think about some of the balls Harry Kane has played for Son to score. That just starts to explain what TC could do when he was on it.

Woody was a winger of his time, with pace to beat a man and a terrific hot shot. It's very difficult to think of modern players who are similar as real 'wingers' don't exist any more. Daft as it sounds, the nearest thing we have had for the ability to drift past a man and deliver a pinpoint cross in recent years, was actually Deano.

Jan Aga was a classic poacher in the Billy mould and a bit more athletic to boot, but he didn't put the graft in that Billy does and was less of a team player.
Deano was a great player but a different kind of player and most effective when able to roam. If played alongside a Billy style poacher, in the right team he could have got so much more from the game but somehow the 'big gangly lad in a long ball team' dogged his career.
Ched was on fire for a season and had a better shot than Billy, but never showed the consistency of the others you mentioned.

Happy to see your Billy-love though!

Yeah I know. I don't mind it really. I've just seen people my age get shouted down in "best players" debates, simply cos we aren't old enough to have seen them play!!

No doubt they were among the very best of their time. I've seen videos and highlights...TC in particular was a ridiculous player. I'd love to have seen him in his pomp.

Hmmm, it's probably twats like me shouting you down......

You will never be older than us, so you will have to wait until we are gaga or pushing up the daisies.

What you can do though, is find some young-uns who never saw Deano in the 90s and then start giving it large; "Listen son, I remember when it were all field around 'ere......"

Can't find lineups from my first ever game, but I think Carl Veart was up front! Bolton, at home, 10th September 1994, so post-Deano (the first time).

I await the day that I am old enough to say "I remember when..." 😂

If a Billy Sharp statue is ever unveiled, I wouldn't be surprised to see a sizeable number of complete and utter cunts protesting it.

My Grandad had Jimmy Hagan
My Dad had Tony Currie
I had Brian Deane
My son has got Billy Sharp.

His first spell was brief, and he was let go too soon by Warnock

His second spell was disappointing, as it didn't click for him under Robson, and he wasn't really given a fair crack of the whip by Blackwell, although he did score a memorable goal on a freezing cold afternoon at Barnsley and gave us a glimpse of what he had with a superb hat-trick at home to QPR the following season. It wasn't for the lack of trying because he was busting a gut, prehaps trying too hard in a way but it didn't to happen.

The third spell has been nothing short of magnificent. In his first season he was one of the few players who didn't throw in the towel (Basham was another), then Wilder came in, made him captain and the figurehead of the team. He banged in 30 goals in the 100 point season, kept it going for the following 2 seasons that saw us promoted again, and since we have been in the top flight he has constantly challenged himself to get better and better.

What really stands out is that it is blindingly obvious that he is a massive Blade, goes out there and does what we all want to do deep down, and is a great character who anyone club would be proud to call one of their own.

I can well understand your frustration at hearing old geezers like me rambling on about how good players like TC and Woody were , but the truth is it really was the case but not only were they excellent footballers , they provided us with excitement and entertainment .

Having said that , Brian Deane and Billy Sharp (along with a couple of others ) are well up there in my book as players who deserve the title legend and I have no problem telling my grandkids how good the were / are and nor should you .

One of the biggest mysteries to me in all my time watching the Blades has been how Billy has been so underrated by successive managers and a fair percentage of the fans , and still is to this day .

For me , the main attributes of being a striker are to be a pain in the arse for defenders , to provide chances for others and , most importantly , to stick the ball in the back of the net . Billy Sharp has all those attributes in spades and will always be one of my all time Blades heroes .

Blade, club legend. As is Brian Deane, who was a better player, as was Billy Dearden.

I love watching Billy Sharp, but Sir Brian Deane just edges it for me.

The two stand outs for me are woody and Billy.
Woody never played for any other English team, loved the club and gave his all every game, tbh my all time favourite player.
Billy is another player loves the club, would run through walls for the club and his team mates, also a genuine gentleman and grounded fella.
To my mind, if the Kop ever gets named it HAS to be one of these three Blades legends, oh did I forget to mention the other contender?
Chris Wilder, die hard Blade , always gives his all from ball boy to manager and everything in between, the only ex player close to the Legend level of the other two.
Loved Deano, King Keith, TC and so many others that deserve the tag club legend but Billy, Woody and The Gaffer are, to me head and shoulders above the rest and having seen all, and remember when all this was fields ....sorry I forgot where I was going with this, during the war....anyone seen my car keys?
In closing I think this pedestrian precinct should be scrapped and and and, is it bed time?
Billy = G.O.A.T simple as that.

He took two, scoring both.

At Scunthorpe in the 1-1 draw in 1984 (Morris missed the game through injury)
At home to Hull in 1985 (Morris had been subbed). We won 3-1 and that was his hat trick.

Kenworthy took them in 1981-2 and early 1982-3, and then Morris got the job and kept it till after Edwards left.
My saviour 😁😁

Total agreement & as I said in an earlier post, Dane Whitehouse was a legend who turned down offers & remained loyal to his hometown club. Would run through a brick wall & indeed got his injury doing so. Add the 2 goals in the Derby double year. If that doesn't warrant a stand or a statue don't know what does.

Bassett is a good shout too : proper legend.

If Sharp scores another 23 league goals, not only would he be the leading English league goalscorer since the year 2000 he'd also be the leading English league goalscorer since 1990.
he will still have a part to play in our promotion push next season even though it will probably be his last season with the club albeit probably only from the bench i reckon 10 to 12 goals is not beyond him even off the subs bench

He deserves a statue regardless for me.

If you watch old footage Forge, of Woody n Currie linking up you'll understand why us older gits bang on about them with such reverence. You can include another Billy,.......Dearden. 😊

Needs 7 this season to leapfrog Nugent who's not in champ this season ...
Go on bill lad

When judging strikers there are different attributes

Most people tend to focus on finishing…”who scored the most goals” but it‘s not that simple
There‘s physical presence, pace, skill, ability to score goals from nothing, creativity/ link play and these days there‘s workrate and closing down defenders.

Regards finishing:
Sharp is so similar to Edwards….both were always sniffing around the goal trying to find space and
both the best finishers I’ve seen since the mid 70’s.

So you often here all the accolades regards Sharp and Edwards….but really it’s just about finishing…..both are and were very reliant on being set up with ball to feet.
Also think it’s relevant that both had very little impact at top flight level….so logically this puts Edwards and Sharp well down the list of our best strikers,

Regards the other attributes the creativity/ link play king must be McGoldrick….shame he’s not a natural goslscorer….noticed he can’t seem to strike a ball really hard. Regards physical presence the king must have been Wayne “Chief” Allison, he was built like a fridge. No defender could knock him off the ball but his build meant he was really slow….always looked like he was wearing boots made of lead.

The best for physical presence, whilst still having pace was Brian Deane.
Just by being on the pitch you could sense opposition defenders were worried….saw similar early regards Jebbison when playing Everton.

Taking every striker quality into account….easily the best all round striker I’ve seen since 1975 has been Brian Deane
but as already stated Sharp and Edwards were both better finishers than Deane.
