Don't Swansea normally have a decent academy?

They were previously a Category One, Premier League 2 Academy. But, they gave up their accreditation and dropped down to our level - effectively Division 3 of Academy football.
Thanks for that info. What benefits would accrue from giving up accreditation and dropping down ?

Well. It's their choice. But the simple answer is they'd save money, which they'd be able to spend elsewhere, on transfer fees or wages for first team players for example.

Wouldn`t that mean they are likely to lose academy players to Premier league clubs and only receive nominal compensation ?

Look. I'm not in the know on what we're having for tea, let alone how Swansea's Academy works. Teams move up & down Academy Categories as suits their budgets. Bournemouth were a Premier League team, with a Cat 3 Academy. Sunderland were a League One team with a Cat 1 Academy. SUFC are the only PL team without a Cat 1. Basically it's a bookkeeping call.....
Spend more to get & maintain Cat 1, get more for your players
Spend less to remain at Cat 2, get less for your players
